Fluoranthene-Containing Distorted Nanographenes Exhibiting TwoPhoton Absorption Response

    No full text
Two distorted nanographenes combining helicenes and a fluoranthene unit within their polycyclic scaffolds were synthesized. Their structural and electronic properties were elucidated by various spectroscopic methods, and the experimental data were corroborated computationally. The optical and electrochemical properties of the nanographenes were evaluated. The compounds exhibit an improved two-photon absorption crosssection compared to their seven-membered ring-containing counterparts reported previously by us. These results provide important insights into how the incorporation of a pentagonal ring affects two-photon absorption properties of nanographenes. Moreover, one of the nanographenes is chiral and was obtained enantiomerically pure after chiral separation, allowing the study of its chiroptical properties both in absorption (electronic circular dichroism) and emission (circularly polarized luminescence).MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by ERDF/EU (PID2021- 127521NB-I00 and PID2022-137403NA-I00)MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by ESF+ (PRE2022-102320; RYC2023-044652-I)Universidad de Granada / CBUA (Open access

Optimización del rendimiento en la formación en TeI mediante comunicación positiva basada en valores

    No full text

Electromagnetically Induced Transparency in a GaAs Coupled Quantum Dot-Ring

    No full text
In this work, the ground and low-lying excited states in a GaAs coupled quantum dot-ring embedded in an AlGaAs cylindrical matrix are computed under the assumption of a finite confinement potential and an axisymmetric model by means of the finite element method and the effective mass approximation. The electron energy levels are studied as functions of the intensity of externally applied electric and magnetic fields. Electromagnetically induced transparency in the ladder configuration and linear optical absorption coefficient are calculated thereupon. Our results suggest that magnetic fields are more suitable than electric fields for controlling the optical properties of this nanostructure. Also, we found that the system’s response, however, exhibits a striking asymmetry: while the electromagnetically induced transparency is unexpectedly quenched under positive electric fields due to vanishing dipole transition matrix elements, this limitation is completely overcome by a magnetic field. Its application not only restores optical transparency across the full range of electric field values but also drives substantially larger energy level shifts and clear Aharonov–Bohm oscillations, making it a far more robust tool for controlling the optical properties of confined electrons in dot-ring coupled heterostructures.Spanish Junta de Andalucía (PREDOC-01408)RA MESCS Higher Education and Science Committee (Research project N° 23RL-1C005

Gender, colonization and acculturation in the Spanish province of the Sahara (1885-1975)

Under the title “Gender, colonisation and acculturation in the Spanish province of the Sahara (1885-1975)”, we analyse the influence of Spanish colonisation on the construction of Saharawi women’s identity from an intersectional approach. It offers an interpretation of how colonisation may have affected their education, their position in society and their daily lives. It also addresses, based on bibliographical sources and a qualitative study through 23 in-depth interviews, how their own cultural legacy sifted the acculturation process, and how colonial actions influenced the construction of their personality, at school, in the courses given by the Sección Femenina (Women’s Section) and, especially, in their daily lives. The ambivalence of perceptions, feelings and convictions presides over their memory, and reveals the influence of the patriarchy on their culture of origin and on Spanish culture itself

Wind‐Induced Versus Plume‐Induced Inter‐Basin Exchange —Resolving Causal Influences in Plume‐Lake Modeling

    No full text
Bubble-plumes are commonly used in lake restoration to alleviate problems associated with hypolimnetic hypoxia. In lakes with multiple basins separated by sills, bubble-plumes have been used locally to boost oxygen levels in individual basins. However, they have the potential to affect inter-basin exchange leading to unexpected results. Our goal is to assess the relative importance of natural versus plume forcing as drivers of exchange. This is critical to evaluate the field-scale performance of bubble-plume systems. We hypothesize that the contribution of bubble-plumes as drivers of inter-basin oxygen transport depends on the depths of detrainment and maximum plume rise relative to sill level (plume geometry). To test this hypothesis, 1D integral bubble-plume models coupled to a 3D-hydrodynamic model are applied to simulate the performance of an oxygenation system installed in 1990 in the north basin of Amisk Lake, Canada. Sources of uncertainty in bubble-plume modeling, associated with model assumptions and parameter values (structural and parametric uncertainty), are systematically analyzed, and their effect on plume-structure and inter-basin exchange predictions are quantified. The effects of plume forcing on exchange rates and patterns are only significant as the equilibrium depth rises above the sill. For the prevailing conditions in the study case and the most widely accepted plume model, this occurs with low probability. More plausibly (for most parameter combinations), the plume injects oxygen below the sill, the oxygenated water being transported by internal waves between basins. Solid conclusions on the dominant drivers of large-scale transport arise in attribution studies accounting for model uncertainty.National Science Foundation (Grant CBET 1033514) - Texas A&M UniversityUniversidad de Granada / CBUA (Open access

Value Contribution of Palopegteriparatide in Adult Patients with Chronic Hypoparathyroidism using Multicriteria Decision Analysis (MCDA)

    No full text
Introduction: The study objective was to determine the value contribution of palopegteriparatide to the treatment of adults with chronic hypoparathyroidism, a rare endocrine disease, through a multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA). Methods: The Orphar-SEFH group framework for evaluating orphan drugs was used, along with the weighting performed by 98 national and regional evaluators. A multidisciplinary panel of seven experts individually scored the evidence matrix. The scores were collected and analysed using Microsoft Excel software programmed for MCDA study analysis. The results were discussed in a reflective discussion session. Results: The expert panel considered chronic hypoparathyroidism to be a moderate-to-severe disease (mean ± SD: 3.3 ± 0.5) due to its multiorgan impact and associated comorbidities, with significant unmet needs (3.6 ± 1.0), particularly related to the lack of the physiological effect due to insufficient levels of parathyroid hormone. The experts found palopegteriparatide as an add-on treatment to conventional therapy (calcium and active vitamin D) to be much more effective than placebo plus conventional therapy, with this criterion receiving the highest score. The safety profile was considered acceptable (1.6 ± 1.1). The participants highlighted the positive impact of palopegteriparatide on patient-reported outcomes (2.9 ± 0.9) compared to placebo because of improvements in quality of life (QoL). Palopegteriparatide was seen as a potentially disease-modifying treatment, which could lead to savings in "other medical costs" (3.1 ± 1.1) and "non-medical/indirect costs" (2.0 ± 0.8), although no evidence was available, especially in the long term. The quality of the evidence was perceived as high (3.6 ± 0.5). The overall value contribution of palopegteriparatide was 0.58 (+ 1 = maximum value) compared to placebo. The study has some limitations, including a relatively small panel size and the exclusion of treatment cost as a criterion due to lack of pricing information at the time of evaluation. Conclusion: According to MCDA, palopegteriparatide represents a valuable therapeutic option for chronic hypoparathyroidism treatment, particularly due to its demonstrated efficacy, which had an impact on patients’ QoL, and the current unmet needs in this therapeutic area.Ascendis Pharm
