Alice in Wonderland: A Mythical Journey
Get PDFThe theme of this work is a study of theories about the myth of the hero lived out by the character Alice, of the film Alice in Wonderland, directed by Tim Burton and based on the work of the writer Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll in 1865. A brief psychological analysis is made of the relationship of the fantastic narrative with the process of individuation of the protagonist and the symbolic representations in the psychic development that occurs, through her mythical experience of the “hero\u27s journey” that was elaborated by Joseph Cambpell in The Hero of a Thousand Faces. This theory presents the various stages of the mythical journey of the hero, trajectory which is marked by complications, trials and lessons that the hero must undertake to develop inwardly. At the end of the journey Alice not only develops herself but also interferes with the local order of her community which is governed by rigid and patriarchal norms. As Campbell puts it, the hero\u27s return entails putting the learned wisdom into practice so that he/she shares the benefits gained on the journey
Projected transformations to improve the management of the accounting process at the University of Havana
Get PDFThis work deals with the transformations that are necessary to promote the accounting management of the University of Havana in search of a qualitative level higher than the current one. In the development of the work, the theoretical elements that support the research are addressed and the context in which accounting management is developed is exposed. The work refers to some of the main strengths and weaknesses of the accounting process identified by the authors through the application of a questionnaire to the qualified personnel who develop the accounting process. Based on the diagnosis made, it is proposed to influence elements such as human capital management, the accounting manual and the design of the accounting process management. Consequently, actions are proposed to be carried out in these three aspects that allow to improve the management of the accounting process at the University of Havana
An Interpretation of the Paratexts of Three Kingdoms Translated by Moss Roberts
Get PDFParatext is an inseparable part of translation. It can reveal what the translated text cannot explain and is of great significance to translation studies. This article uses the English translation of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms by American Sinologist Moss Roberts as the research object, and attempts to interpret Roberts’ translation views and translation promotional factors through peritext, such as the cover, acknowledgments, annotations and postscripts, and epitext, such as interviews, reviews and other external paratexts. It is found that Roberts’ translation motivation of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms is mainly to spread Chinese culture by literature. He always keeps readers in his heart and has a strong reader consciousness. Therefore, he mainly adopts domestication strategies and uses a lot of annotations to make the readers better understand the meaning and Chinese culture. Secondly, the author found that the translator’s own erudite and rigorous attitude, the cooperation of Chinese and foreign publishing houses, and the evaluation of well-known sinologists all promoted the spread and acceptance of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. This study interprets Roberts’ translation view and the promotional factors of the translation from the paratext, hoping to help comprehensively and objectively evaluate the value of Roberts’ translation, and at the same time promote the in-depth and development of translation studies from the perspective of the paratext

A Review of EFL Formulaic Language Acquisition and Teaching intervention
Get PDFThis paper reviews EFL formulaic language research in international and Chinese domestic academia from the perspectives of language acquisition and language teaching. Current studies have some limitations due to different types of reasons. For example, a lack of representativeness in the selection of target items, a lack of attention to learner’s differences, and a scanty of high-quality EFL formulaic sequences instruction research. Future research can pay more attention to learners’ differences that may affect the acquisition and learning process of the formulaic language, with the aim of exploring effective methods and approaches to improve the competence of EFL learners and promoting the optimization of theories exploring the teaching of EFL formulaic language
Effective School Discipline Practices of Some Primary Schools in Pema Gatshel Dzongkhag
Get PDFThe study was conducted under Pema Gatshel Dzongkhag (district) to investigate the effectiveness of school discipline under Pema Gatshel district in Bhutan. The main objective of this article was to evaluate the perception of the effective school discipline according to the principals, teachers, and parents. This paper was a qualitative study based on in-depth semi-structured interviews which were limited to forty-five key participants from six different schools under the Pema Gatshel district. Data were analyzed employing content analysis. The major findings of this study revealed that for efficient functioning of school discipline policy in schools, various stakeholders like parents, teachers, students and the community should work collaboratively. The study also revealed that schools should include students and parents in the decision-making process particularly while trying to bring changes to school discipline policy
Business Communication Strategies: Analysis of Internal Communication Processes
Get PDFThe purpose of this research is to investigate the current situation of internal communication in the maintenance department in the cement industry. In most organizations, employees and managers have struggled with the thought of attempting to solve weak and bad communication between the two parties which mostly cause issues to an organization, whether in performance or cost wise. This research was carried out at the maintenance department in Cement Company. A quantitative method was used to gather relevant information regarding a study of internal communication in maintenance department in cement industry. The research findings were supported that current management at Cement industry implementing team meetings effectively. The current management at Cement industry is creating and using online- printed communications tools, organizing regular events. The research findings were supported that current management at Cement industry using online tools for internal communication. In terms of notice board communication, the researcher was not able to find any link between company’s’ standard as a fact of internal communication method and respondent’s perception as research findings. At this point the researcher was able to point out the gap between this study and the fact of internal communication at maintenance department in Cement industry. According to the findings the researcher was able to find out the gap between site visit communication between perception and the fact. Concerns of face-to-face communication method, also, was not found in the standard of internal communication at cement industry. Accordingly, the researcher was able to point out the gap between face-to-face communication method as a fact and respondents’ perception according to the research findings. The current management at Cement industry is establishing a regular, transparent communication with all employees covering the entire organization. The research findings were supported that current management at Cement industry implementing network communication effectively
Legal Termination of Employment: Investigating the relationship between Performance Appraisal and Legal Termination
Get PDFThe primary goal of this study is to look at the link between annual performance appraisals at private hospitals and legal termination; specifically, the study looked at whether employees are fired for poor performance after being appraised by performance appraisal management. This study employed a quantitative way to analyze data from four different private hospitals to determine whether employees are fired for poor performance after being reviewed by a performance assessment management system. A total of 100 questionnaires were issued, however only 68 were returned. The findings of this study revealed that in private hospitals, there is a poor and weak link between performance appraisal evaluation and legal termination
