Students’ Acceptance of Google Classroom for Teaching and Learning in Bhutanese Secondary Schools
Get PDFThe purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence Bhutanese secondary students\u27 behavioural intention and their despondency to accept google classroom platform as a learning management system. The study utilized structural equation modelling (SEM) to examine the direct effects using students self- reported answers. The endogenous variable was Behavior intention (BI) while the exogenous variables were perceived usefulness (PU); perceived ease of use (PEOU); facilitating conditions (FC), and tutor quality (TQ). The data for this study was collected from 340 secondary students from four schools under Thimphu district. The SEM analysis suggested that there was no evidence for a direct link between FC and TQ toward BI. However, a significant positive effect was found from FC>PEOU; TQ>PEOU; PEOU>PU; and finally, from PU>BI. The model proposed and tested in this study reveals that neither the FC nor TQ were strong determinants of secondary students’ behaviour intention to use GC

Decultarization, Disorientation and Political Strategies against the Tribal: A Missing Chapter in Contemporary Mainstream Indian Fiction Writing
Get PDFIndian English fiction writers have made their particular assertions about tribals which are incomplete therefore; we do not find much reality in their novels. In the novels like The Strange Case of Billy Biswas, The Princess, The White Tiger and The English August, we find the unauthentic representation of the tribal life. In every novel, tribal life and characters are shown dependable on mainstream heroes for the help. Novelist’s tribal women and man, surrender to mainstream sophisticated social arrangements. In most of the novels, they consider the non-tribal person as god and savior for them who is outsider of their tribal territory. This is a kind of internal orientalism. The political victimization of the tribal is the colonial phenomena. Mainstream writers assume that the tribals are the uncivilized and no need of cultivation hence tribals are the community for political victimization. Mainstream literatures have never depicted their victimization on ground realities and given place in mainstream canonical literature. This research article tries to examine the displacement and distortion of Adivasi life in the selected novels written in Indian English
The Implementation of Learner Centred Approach and Reposition of Education in Public Secondary Schools in Nyamagana District, Mwanza-Tanzania
Get PDFLearner Centred Approach has been emphasized in Tanzania for several years since 1995. The country made reforms on various education policies and programs to ensure students are trained through LCA to realize national educational objectives. This study, therefore, sought to assess the implementation of LCA in public secondary schools. The study was guided by four specific objectives. Also, it was anchored on constructivism learning theory developed in 1929 and adopted in the field of education. The researcher employed a mixed research approach and a convergent parallel research design to collect data from the field. The researcher involved teachers, school heads, students, WEOs, and DEO. A sample size of 165 informants was employed to get data in quantitative and qualitative terms. Quantitative data were analyzed through SPSS version 20, while qualitative data were analyzed through the content analysis method by coding, categories, and themes. Validity and reliability of the quantitative instruments were checked to obtain 0.80 coefficients which indicated that the instruments were valid and reliable while for qualitative instruments validity and reliability were tested through triangulation. The findings demonstrated that LCA plays a significant role in developing students’ lifelong learning skills. It develops creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and innovation. Notwithstanding, the study found that teachers and students had a positive perception of the application of LCA, however its implementation in public secondary schools is minimal due to environmental challenges which lead to poor academic performance in students
The Role of School Management Team in Managing Students’ Academic Performance in Community Secondary Schools in Tabora Municipality- Tanzania
Get PDFThis study aimed at examining the role of school management team in managing students’ academic performance in Tabora municipality Tanzania. The study employed mixed method approach and convergent parallel design to collect data. The study involved both qualitative and quantitative data. The study applied simple random sampling technique and purposive technique to collect information from respondents. Simple random sampling technique was used to select community secondary schools, teachers and students while purposive sampling technique was applied to sample heads of secondary schools and district education officer to participate in the study. The study employed questionnaires and interview guides to collect information from respondents. Questionnaires were applied to collect information from teachers and students while interview guides were used to collect data from heads of schools and District Educational Officer. Quantitative data were analyzed by using statistical package of social science (SPSS) version 20 while thematic analysis was used to analyze qualitative data. The findings revealed that school management team plays a great role in managing the performance of students academically. Furthermore, the findings of the study revealed that school management team is facing various challenges such as lack of training to members of SMT, insufficient support from community around the school, students’ misbehaviors, inadequate of financial support from the government, unconduicive of teaching and learning environment, lack of teaching and learning materials and lack of parents’ involvement in students learning process. The study suggests that the government should provide enough funds to the school management team in community secondary schools to enable them be able to manage students’ academic performance
The Effectiveness of Guidance and Counseling Practices on Students’ Career Development in Secondary Schools in Temeke Municipality
Get PDFThis study intended to examine The Effectiveness of Guidance and Counseling Practices on Students’ Career Development in Secondary Schools in Temeke Municipality using embedded research design. It was undertaken in Temeke Municipality, Dar es Salaam Region, Tanzania. The target population was heads of secondary schools, teachers, students, and ward educational officers. The sample size used comprised of 15 teachers, equivalent to 10% of the 150 teachers in the selected secondary schools, three school heads, and 120 students as 10% of 1,200 students from Forms III and IV. Probability and non-probability sampling tactics were employed in the selection of respondents from the targeted population. Observation method, documentary review, interview guide and questionnaires were used to collect primary data while secondary data were obtained in the documents. Data were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The findings reveal the existing lack of specialized personnel in the field of career guidance and counseling. Instead, teachers are randomly picked to hold that position; a teacher seen to be morally upright and religious is appointed and tries to do the best possible to support these students. Through the study, there was glaring evidence that the tight school timetable does not give room for students to consult their teachers –particularly the time table for extra-curricular activities. It has been established, according to the survey, that guidance and counseling practices face limited teaching and learning materials, counseling offices, negative perception from students and limited support from the government. The findings also show that students experience little support from parents and teachers. Schools in the sample lacked special counseling rooms and even confidentiality from teachers. It is, thus, recommended that special in-service training and seminars should be provided to teachers expected to be school guidance-counselor and there should be financial support from parents, government and the community at large
The Contribution Professional Codes of Conducts on Secondary Education Teacher’s Professionalism: A Case of Bukoba District Council, Kagera Region, Tanzania
Get PDFThe main purpose of this study was to examine The Contribution of professional codes of conducts on secondary education teacher’s professionalism: A Case of Bukoba District Council, Kagera Region, Tanzania. The study was guided by deontological and utilitarianism theories. The research employed a mixed research approach under convergent parallel research design. The study used a population of 238 with the sample size of 149 comprising of 1 DSEO, 13 WEOs, 13 Head of Schools, and 122 Teachers. The sample was obtained by simple random sampling and purposive sampling technique, and data were gathered by using questionnaires and interview guide. What’s more, cronbach alpha coefficient approach was used to ensure the reliability of the instruments. Obtained finding were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20 computer package. Data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics and the findings were presented by using frequency tables and pie-charts. Also, part of qualitative data wascodedand categorized by thematic analysis of which description were employed to present data in chapter four. The findings indicated that in teaching professionalism there is ethical and moral practice, moral development and moral values which are caused professional codes of conducts to teachers.In addition, it was found that professional codes of conducts raise the standards of teaching professionalism, brings about respect, integrity and obedience to laws. The study recommended that the government and other educational authorities to put more emphasize on the moral development to teachers because it is one of the important that contribute to ethical practice
The perception of the parents toward the online teaching and learning during the covid-19 pandemic
Get PDFOn March 5, 2020, the first positive case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Bhutan, and on March 18, all the nationwide schools were closed to decrease the spread of Coronavirus. Like many other countries, Bhutan initiated online teaching and learning to replace traditional face-to-classes during the COVID-19 pandemic to continue children\u27s learning. Lessons were broadcast on television and self-learning materials were distributed to rural schools and those who don\u27t have access to online learning. This study is projected to investigate the parents\u27 perspectives on online teaching and Learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study was conducted in a small village under Shumar Gewog (block) under Pema Gatshel Dzongkhag (district) in the East of Bhutan. This paper was a qualitative study based on in-depth semi-structured interviews which were limited to thirty key informants due to several limitations. Data were analyzed with a content analysis approach. The study found that there is a mixed perception towards online teaching and learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The result suggested that online classes during the COVID-19 pandemic will assist their children to keep engaged, it helps many students to clear doubts and understand the concepts in better ways, it helps the students to use Information and Communication Technology (ICT) which enhances their capability to explore the world beyond. On the other hand, it is connected with the parents concerning the quality of education due to the online classes, the poor network connectivity issues, wastage of money on data, and most of the children are engaged in online games and other unhealthy websites which can result in the risk of cyberbullying
A Chinese Diasporic Translator: Chi-Chen Wang and his Translation of Chinese Literature
Get PDFThe diasporic translator Chi-Chen Wang did much to disseminate modern Chinese literature in the West. This article draws attention to Chinese diasporic translators in the West in the 1940s through the neglected figure of Chi-Chen Wang (1899-2001). This paper of Chi-Chen Wang is an integrated study of two perspectives, an overview of present studies on Wang’s translation and a detailed analysis on Wang’s translation principles by examining his translation revisions. The research finds out that Wang’s translations in the 1940s years centered on socially conscious types of writing, which bear a close relationship to his sympathy and expectation for China. Wang was guided by the principles of both capturing the original flavor and enhancing the readability of the target text
