Italian cities—Venice, Palermo, and Verona—using the Age-Friendly Cities and Communities Questionnaire (AFCCQ). By applying different clustering techniques, we aim to identify patterns of perception among socio-demographic groups and urban contexts, providing insights for age-friendly policy development. Despite their strengths, typical methods struggle to detect complex clustering structures which are indeed expected in our analysis, due to
overlapping hierarchical structures reflecting administrative boundaries and neighborhood similarities in services, amenities, and proximity to city centers. We therefore contribute with the application infinite mixture model with kernels organized within a multiscale structure. Leveraging a careful specification of the kernel parameters, our method allows the inclusion of additional information guiding possible hierarchies among clusters while maintaining flexibility. By exploring clustering at multiple resolution levels, we capture broad patterns such as identifying whether a city is generally more or less age-friendly as well as

Bank Heterogeneity and Crisis Migration: A General Equilibrium Analysis of Systemic Risk
No full textIn the wake of the 2023 Silicon Valley Bank collapse and the 2025 tariff shocks, systemic risk poses a serious threat to global financial stability. We propose a three-period general equilibrium (GE) model that accounts for bank heterogeneity and crisis-driven migration. Our model distinguishes between retail banks, with a marginal expected shortfall of-0.019, and investment banks at-0.045, successfully reducing systemic risk and lowering the overall expected shortfall from-0.032 to-0.029. Unlike complex DSGE frameworks, our model offers clear insights into the vulnerabilities of Silicon Valley Bank and the impact of tariffs. We recommend Basel III-aligned policies, including capital relief and targeted stress tests, and propose real-time crisis prediction tools. This model serves as a vital resource for policymakers and investors, helping them navigate systemic crises and address the challenges posed by "too big to fail" institutions

Transatlantic Displacements of the “Venus-in-Furs” Motif (Johns/Rauschenberg, Thek/Sontag)
No full textIn his study of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s novella, Venus in Furs (1870), Gilles Deleuze proposes that the text is under “the sign of Titian, of the enigmatic relation of flesh, fur and mirror.” In the discussion that follows, I take my cue from the relationality of the three elements - flesh, fur, mirror - and re-unite them under the name of the “Venus-in-Furs” motif with the purpose of exploring the motif’s displacement, transfer, and metamorphosis along transatlantic routes. The compound noun in my title “Venus-in-furs” will refer not only to the three items (flesh, fur, mirror) clustered together in relation, but to the capacity of the cluster to put to work and set in motion certain concepts by now embedded in a shared critical-theoretical sensibility: first and foremost the image (both in the sense of technological reproduction, the copy, and in the psychoanalytic sense of imago); secondly, related to the first, the fictional direction of the ‘I’ (mirage); branching from these two, the anticipated reciprocity of the gaze. I will argue that the mysterious relation of these concepts effects the impression of a cultural inclusion/incision. My main point will be to suggest that the theoretical anchorage of the Venus-in-furs motif enables to trace its transformation, especially along the transatlantic route, in the problematic of the surface. Two case studies of exemplary collaborations in American art and thought, Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns, and Paul Thek and Susan Sontag, will help show that the problematic of a surface inclusion/incision harnesses the discourse on the appearance of the artist/thinking I beyond egoic solipsism

Cuestiones abiertas / Open Questions (2025), edited by Facundo Bey and published jointly by Filosófica Editorial and the Editorial Universitaria of the Universidad Central del Ecuador, is a bilingual open-access volume celebrating the 125th anniversary of Gadamer’s birth. It brings together fourteen original chapters by internationally recognised scholars—twelve in English and two in Spanish—including contributions from John Arthos, Nathan Eric Dickman, Dieter Teichert, Eddo Evink, Babette Babich, Roger W. H. Savage, Mirela Oliva, Luiz Rohden, Darren Walhof, Walter Lammi, Abdullah Başaran, Antoine Pageau-St-Hilaire, Einar Iván Monroy Gutiérrez, and Facundo Bey. With a prologue by Jean Grondin, the volume is structured around five major themes: 1) Language, Tradition, and Questioning in Philosophical Hermeneutics; 2) Reason, Meaning, and Science; 3) Ethics, Politics, Practical Philosophy; 4) Philosophy and Religion; and 5) Gadamer and the Classics. The book explores the ongoing relevance of Gadamer’s hermeneutics as a philosophical response to contemporary crises, and affirms the transformative power of questioning at the heart of understanding

No full textDopo il sapere assoluto di Hegel si apre la costellazione contemporanea della finitezza, l’impossibilità di risolvere la realtà nel pensiero, la consapevolezza di esser determinati da qualcosa che non è a nostra disposizione. Ma il sapere assoluto di Hegel è anche l’anticipazione di molte tesi post-metafisiche contemporanee: risolve l’infinito nel continuo trapassare di ogni finitezza, espone un’oggettività concettuale da cui i soggetti vengono a dipendere, “dinamizza” l’intera realtà aprendo ogni determinazione all’alterità e alla differenza. Tuttavia queste “promesse” confliggono con la pretesa metafisica hegeliana di voler esporre l’essenza “ultima” di tutte le cose: il pensiero. Il libro espone questa interna tensione della filosofia di Hegel, da cui si può uscire solo prendendone le distanze ma, al tempo stesso, proseguendo la sua intenzione fondamentale di un congedo dalla metafisica. Pubblicato per la prima volta nel 1995, questo libro esce ora corredato da una nuova postfazione dell’autore
