Reproduction of the mediterranean killifish Aphanius fasciatus at different salinity conditions: Implications for conservation and management
Get PDFClimate change is expected to significantly alter the distribution of fish organisms, particularly within vulnerable
ecosystems like transitional water bodies. The anticipated rise in sea levels and extreme rainfall events could
trigger coastal habitat salinisation or freshwater dilution, posing potential threats to resident species of European
Community interest. In this study, we examine the impact of salinity fluctuations on the Mediterranean Killifish
Aphanius fasciatus, a species listed in Annex II of the Habitat Directive. We employ a behavioural approach,
analysing reproductive performance and courtship behaviours across a salinity range of 5–45 pss, both qualitatively
and quantitatively. Results reveal the presence of the complete reproductive repertoire across all salinity
treatments, including successful egg spawning, emphasising the significance of Mediterranean salt marshes in
safeguarding local populations

Understanding policy-volition interactions in urban ecological governance: A simulation framework based on SD-ABM coupling
No full textAs urban ecological challenges intensify, understanding how different policy instruments influence stakeholder behavior has become central to designing effective governance strategies. This study develops a coupled system dynamics (SD) and agent-based modeling (ABM) framework to simulate the evolution of participation willingness across four key governance agents: municipal economic departments, environmental regulators, enterprises, and the public. Two governance scenarios—administrative directives and bidirectional incentive mechanisms—are examined to assess how macro-level regulation interacts with micro-level decision-making. Results show that while command-and-control policies induce initial compliance, they are vulnerable to minor disturbances, leading to rapid disengagement. Static incentives improve participation but are limited by their inability to adapt to changing behavioral dynamics. In contrast, dynamic incentive mechanisms significantly enhance system stability by enabling real-time feedback and adaptive recalibration. The model also reveals that enterprise heterogeneity influences responsiveness to different policy tools, highlighting the need for tiered and context-specific strategies. This mechanism-driven framework contributes a transferable tool for analyzing policy-volition interactions and provides strategic insights for implementing adaptive governance in urban ecological systems
Social progress in cities and rural areas of the EU
Get PDFThis paper presents a novel approach to measuring sustainable and inclusive wellbeing in cities and rural areas of the European Union (EU). By introducing a measure of social progress in cities, towns and suburbs, and rural areas, the study explores – for the very first time – the contribution of social, economic and environmental dimensions to sustainable and inclusive territorial well-being in the EU. The analysis reveals significant disparities in social progress between urban and rural areas of the EU, with cities generally exhibiting higher overall levels of social progress. The findings suggest that cities often serve as hubs of opportunity, offering a highly skilled workforce, a vibrant job market and a high level of inclusiveness. However, severe challenges are present in cities, particularly in terms of housing and the quality of the environment. The urban–rural divide in social progress has far-reaching
consequences for the well-being of EU citizens, with a larger divide associated with a higher risk of poverty and social exclusion, a weaker labour market integration of young graduates and a wider gender employment gap. The results of this work may have important implications for the EU cohesion policy. To address the urban–rural divide and promote inclusive and sustainable economic development, the EU’s cohesion policy is more than ever of paramount importance to support critical investment in housing, in the green and just transition, in achieving energy efficiency and reducing energy poverty, and in social inclusion, thereby promoting sustainable and inclusive development across all EU territories

annullamento del decreto di convocazione delle elezioni di alcuni sindaci e dei relativi consigli

compromissione del diritto di elettorato passivo, contestando la fissazione della data del 4 maggio
2025 per lo svolgimento delle consultazioni elettorali, che aveva comportato di conseguenza
un’abbreviazione della durata del mandato, conseguito per il primo turno il 20 e 21 settembre 2020
e per il secondo turno il 4 ottobre 2020. Nella pronuncia si affronta anche il tema di una possibile
prospettazione di questione di legittimità costituzionale. Da qui, pare opportuno interrogarsi sulla
solidità di tali assunti argomentativi, esaminando l’approdo raggiunto dal giudice amministrativo

No full textA New Theoretical-Analytical Perspective for Reading the In-terplay Between Migration Phenomena, Social Transformations, and Tranculturational Processes · Ithas been over 30 years since the publication of the first edition of Castles and Miller’s volume,which unequivocally defined the final stages of the capitalist mode of production as the “Ageof Migrations”. This seminal work contributed to the emergence of a new discipline equippedwith its own theoretical and analytical constructs. The article proposes the introduction of anovel analytical perspective: that of migratory stratifications. This concept refers to the over-lap of various migration phenomena persisting within the same context throughout history.Indeed, the same social landscape can be traversed, in different historical and social eras, by asuccession of immigrations, emigrations, and transits of diverse origins, carried out throughvarious modalities. A multitude of actors can play roles in these migratory events. Critical intervention points for European adaptation to cascading climate change impacts
Get PDFIn an interconnected world, climate change impacts can cascade across
sectors and regions, creating systemic risks. Here we analyse cascading
climate change impacts on the EU, originating from outside the region, and
identify critical intervention points for adaptation. Using network analysis,
we integrate stakeholder-co-produced impact chains with quantitative data
for 102 countries across foreign policy, human security, trade and finance.
Our archetypal impact cascade model reveals critical intervention points
related to water, livelihoods, agriculture, infrastructure and economy,
and violent conflict. Livelihood instability, with violence exacerbating
conditions in conflict-prone regions, tends to amplify risks of cascading
impacts emerging from low-income countries. High-income countries can
trigger cascading impacts through, for example, reduced crop exports.
Our findings highlight the importance of policy coherence in addressing
interconnected vulnerabilities rather than isolated risks. Thus, agricultural
intensification without integrated water management may exacerbate
scarcity, whereas safeguarding livelihoods alleviates cascading risks related
to forced migration, violent conflict and instability
