M4.C2.1.1The inseparable relationship between the concept of heresy and the notion of orthodoxy is one of the central elements in defining the identity of Byzantium. From the earliest centuries of the Church to the controversies that animated the final decades of the Empire’s existence, debates on theological, dogmatic, liturgical, and ritual issues—often in dialogue or conflict with heretical, heterodox, and dissenting movements—were among the forces that nourished Byzantine society and institutions.
Over the centuries, religious disputes also acquired a pronounced international dimension and were frequently intertwined with Byzantium’s shifting relations with the Latin West, the Armenians, and various peoples of the Near East.
The catalogue of the exhibition Heresy and Orthodoxy in Comparison: Manuscripts and Texts from Byzantium in the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana traces the full trajectory of this complex phenomenon—at once religious, social, and political—illustrated by Greek codices, some of them splendidly illuminated.

Textualization as Cultural Heritage: The Case of the Pyramid Texts
In linguistic anthropology the notion of ‘text’ has been widely discussed during the last century, and particular attention has been given to the locally defined social context and the historical dimension in which a text can be produced and received (Hanks 1989).
A distinctive case study in the topic of ‘textualization’ is offered by ancient Egyptian funerary corpora, written in hieroglyphic script, that represented a fundamental instrument for the preservation of cultural memory. We here focus on a specific corpus, the Pyramid Texts, dated to the end of the Third Millennium BC that, after its original use in the royal pyramids, starts spreading in private contexts at the beginning of the Second Millennium BC.
Thinking of ‘textualization’ as the circumstance when a text comes into existence, or “how a work of verbal art may become a literary text” (Engler 1991), the advent of the Pyramid Texts during the Old Kingdom represents a crucial moment for the writing-history of Egypt, monumentalizing a ritual script and transforming it into a “permanent, ideational representation” (Hays 2012). Such an interpretation of the corpus depends on its own nature consisting of graphic signs (markers) used as performative icons. This feature of the inscriptions is not a bare formal aspect, but rather the materialization of the creative word; we are dealing with a preliminary step in the growth of the concept of “text” (according to its nature connected with the librarian culture: Assmann 1997), because the result of the process is not a textual tradition, but an “effective” writing.
At the end of the Old Kingdom several sequences of Pyramid formulas appear on Middle Kingdom coffins and the high degree of adaptation of this corpus produces a variegation of textual patterns, generating innovative graphic and semantic forms, fitting into new contexts.
This presentation intends to introduce the Ca’ Foscari Venezia - Istituto per l’Oriente C.A. Nallino
joined project for an Ancient Egyptian / Italian Dictionary, especially based on Pyramid and Coffin
Texts, i.e., the funerary corpus that emerged in the elite burials of the Middle Kingdom (first half of the Second Millennium BC); the two corpora show their potentiality both in conveying a millennial textual tradition and modifying their own shape and structure when a re-(con)textualization is required: medium of this process is the graphic system, which allows us to recognize the use of the writing as meta-language in the construction of the message, as confirmed by the use of some specific categories of signs (above all, the taxograms /determinatives)
Territoires multiples. J.-C. (TeMAES I)

Feeding strategies of the invasive blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) on manila clam (Ruditapes philippinarum): Implications for aquaculture
The Manila clam (Ruditapes philippinarum) has become a key aquaculture resource in the Northern Adriatic lagoons. In recent years, the rapid spread of the invasive blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) has emerged as a major threat to clam farming. This study investigated blue crab feeding strategies on clam seed (15–30 mm), marketable clams (30–40 mm), and larger individuals (>40 mm) through two controlled laboratory experiments. The first experiment assessed feeding rates over a 24-h period, while the second analyzed handling behaviour using focal sampling and video recording. Results show that small clams were more frequently consumed, with males preying more actively than females. The 'Crushing' opening technique was predominantly used on smaller clams, while the more time-consuming 'Dactyl' opening technique was used for larger prey. These findings highlight the vulnerability of seed clams and underline the urgent need for management measures to mitigate predation by blue crabs in aquaculture settings
Despite his prominence as an intellectual in early 16th-century Venice, Giovanni Zamberti remains a somewhat elusive figure. The dedicatee of the first Latin translation of Euclid’s Optics, closely connected to Vit- tore Carpaccio and the court of the Marquises of Man-
tua, and instructor in perspective to Daniele Barbaro, he has so far attracted only cursory scholarly attention. A range of previously unpublished archival sources now make it possible to define Zamberti’s biography and network of contacts with greater precision. This article seeks to reconstruct his profile through an analysis of his own testament and those of his relatives, as well as doc- uments attesting to the posts he held in the chancery, his affiliation with the Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista, and his links to the Gonzaga
