TEMPERATURE-DEPENDENT TRANSCRIPTIONAL REGULATION OF THE TAURINE CHEMORECEPTOR GENE MLP37 OF VIBRIO CHOLERAE
Vibrio cholerae, the etiological agent of cholera, has a chemoreceptor named Mlp37 that mediates attractant responses to several amino acids and taurine, a component of bile. The promoter activity of mlp37 increased drastically at 37˚C. This temperature-dependent regulation of mlp37 requires the transcription factors ToxR and TcpP, which are responsible for the expression of cholera toxin and other virulence genes, suggesting the involvement of Mlp37 in infection. Here I measured the promoter activity of mlp37 by luciferase assay to identify cis-acting elements for the expression of mlp37. The results indicate that expression of mlp37 requires an inverted repeat sequence (IR), located upstream of the mlp37 coding region
STUDY ON PLANT DISEASE IDENTIFICATION TECHNOLOGY BASED ON REFLECTANCE SPECTRA
It is desirable to develop a technology that enables anyone to diagnose the plant diseases properly and easily to minimize the crop damage from the diseases. In this study, we aimed to establish a simple plant disease identification technology based on plant reflectance spectra measured with a spectrometer and attempted to classify healthy cucumber and mosaic disease caused by zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV) at the early and late stages of infection. Spectral data were measured with a Spectrum Catcher (Polar Star Space, Japan), and the reflectance spectral patterns of healthy leaves and ZYMV infected leaves were discriminable significantly by statistical analysis. Therefore, the classification learning was performed based on the selected vegetation indexes calculated from the reflectance and the experimental results showed a high classification accuracy of 91.4% in the early stage and 95.6% in the late stage. Furthermore, we examined and proposed a new normalized difference spectral index (NDSI) using two wavelengths, 656 nm and 658.2 nm, as an index that could discriminate diseases and the classification learning based on the NDSI achieved 77.2% accuracy that was better than that of the system using the conventional NDVI
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE PHYSICAL STRUCTURE OF BLOOD PURIFICATION MEMBRANES AND THE FOULING DURING ULTRAFILTRATION
Membrane fouling due to deposit of protein molecules reduces the solute removal performance of diafilters. In this study, the fouling was reproduced by immobilizing albumin on the hollow fiber membrane, and the effect of fouling on the solute permeability was evaluated, focused on the physical structure of the membrane. The degree of fouling was controlled by changing the concentration of albumin solution, and the decreasing degree of the solute permeability due to the fouling depended on the physical structure of membranes. We clarified that diafilters with large pores were less affected by the fouling
Reserch on Motion-Less VR : A Study of Avatar Control Method Considering Posture Difference Between Real and Virtual Bodies
In conventional VR systems, the movements of the real body are directly reflected in the movements of the virtual body, so the movements of the virtual body are limited to those that can be performed by the real body. In contrast to this, a VR system called “Motion-Less VR” has been proposed to realize free movement of the virtual body without moving the real body. However, in Motion-Less VR, the joint torque depends on the fixed posture, which is different from the motion intention that the user originally wants to output. In order to solve the problem, this paper proposes a method to control the virtual body by performing muscle contraction as in normal conditions, independent of the fixed posture, and conducts evaluation experiments of the method
PERIOD DOUBLING BIFURCATION SET SEARCH BASED ON DRCOMPOSITION AND PSO
This paper studies application of the PSO to the calculation of the period doubling bifurcation sets in a bifurcation neuron. The neuron is a simple neuron model that outputs spike-train by repeating integrate-and-fire behavior. Depending on the parameters, the neuron exhibits period doubling bifurcation phenomena. In order to search the bifurcation sets. We apply a PSO based algorithm to a return map from the neuron model. Performing basic numerical experiments, the algorithm efficiency is confirmed
An Ergodic cellular Automaton of Central Pattern Generator for Quadruped Robot
A novel ergodic cellular automaton (CA) oscillator and its theoretical analysis method are presented. Theoretical analyses reveal the oscillator is more suited to build a central pattern generator (CPG) compared to a standard non-ergodic CA oscillator. Further, it is shown the ergodic CA CPG can generate rhythmic signals suitable for realizing fundamental gaits of a quadruped robot. Then a prototype of the ergodic CA CPG is implemented by a field programmable gate array and experiments show it can realize the fundamental gaits of a physically implemented quadruped robot. Further, it is shown the ergodic CA CPG consumes much lower power and much fewer circuit resources compared to a typical conventional CPG implemented by a customized digital signal processor
