Design of Cultural Experience Program : Effective Collaboration with Local Craftsman
The aim of this study was to plan and implement a cultural experience program and to verifyits effectiveness and significance. Therefore, a tatami production workshop was conducted withlocal tatami craftsman. The survey results showed that both the participants and the guest teacher attached importance to learning about culture through communication with others. Itwas also found that the cultural experience program helped to deepen intercultural understanding, and that intercultural communicative competence became active through theguest teacher
The interface between science communication and social education
The purpose of this paper is to re-evaluate citizens' activities such as pollution studies in the 1960s and 1970s, and citizens' joint learning activities of natural science by The Association for the Geological Collaboration in Japan ("Chi-dan-Ken") that were active throughout Japan in the same period, from the analytical perspective of science communication introduced in Japan after the 2000s. Through this process, we will reevaluate science communication and social education in Japan. Through this process, we will explore the interface between science communication and social education, and reconsider science communication as social education.As a conclusion of this paper, social education activities of science, including natural science and social science, are science communication activities, There are two sides of the same coin. In other words, science communication activities can be considered as social education activities, and at the same time, it is significant to conduct science learning activities in a broad sense in social education as science communication. In other words, it is essential to discuss the science learning activities of local residents who are tackling contemporary issues from the perspectives of both science communication and social education
Case Analysis on Pattern of For-Profit and Non-Profit Organizational Collaboration in Collective Impact Initiatives
This study analyzes several cases of Collective Impact initiatives, with a specific focus on the composition of the actors involved in their formation and the organizing process and structure of their activities. The primary aim of this paper is to identify the common elements characterizing the configuration and structure of these initiatives, including the members and their organizing patterns. Three cases are examined, namely the Cradle to Career initiative, the Closed Loop initiative, and the SAGOTO Partnership, each of which represents different types of Collective Impact initiatives. The first two cases involve collaboration among non-profit and for-profit entities in the United States, respectively, while the third case illustrates global collaboration among multi-sector actors in Africa. The paper mainly extracts common elements of the configuration of Collective Impact initiatives from the analysis of the former two cases, although a third, non-U.S., case is also considered to demonstrate the broader applicability of these elements. The common elements identified in this paper include (1) alliances between foundations with different attributes, and (2) the pattern of for-profit and non-profit organizational collaboration that includes entities in LLC and LP form. This paper focuses on the identification of these common elements and their factual presentation, with further interpretation and analysis to be explored in a separate paper. Overall, this study sheds light on the crucial factors and organizational structures underlying the formation and success of Collective Impact initiatives

Surface SH-wave acoustoelasticity can measure residual stress non-destructively. However, surface SH-wave acoustoelasticity cannot be simulated at present because the asymmetric apparent elastic constant due to acoustoelastic effect cannot be considered. In this study, to develop ultrasonic simulation for surface SH-wave acoustoelasticity, we proposed FDTD considering the asymmetric apparent elastic constant. Simulations were performed for surface SH-wave acoustoelasticity. The result for surface SH-wave acoustoelasticity was consistent with theory for only the proposed method. The results of the simulations suggest that the proposed method works effectively

In this study, we improved and further developed the existing GIS-based model for screening terraced rice lots in its conservation priority with focuses on three aspects; landscape value, agricultural efficiency and disaster prevention function. Then the model was applied to the Wakayama Prefecture area within the Kii Peninsula region in central Japan, in which has a clear north-south gradient in geological features. As the results, constructed model performed effectively in selecting rice lots with higher conservation priority within 10km spatial scale. Moreover, in the northern part of the prefecture, agricultural efficiency was an important aspect in the model, whereas landscape value and disaster prevention function were also detected in the middle and southern parts, respectively. Prefectural governmental officials in charge of terraced paddy conservation policies, who were interviewed, supported an applicability of this model in actual institutional fields because it was guaranteed by scientific approaches. Based upon these figures, we proposed that at prefectural spatial scale the model calibrated among three aspects depending on geologic and topographic conditions could be utilized for prioritizing terraced paddies without serious regional inequalities in institutional supports
