The best-selling View-Master reels related to tourism in Japan are those from Expo ʼ70. By using Japanese-language View-Master brochures from the early 1970s and the Expo ʼ70 reels, the situation during the peak period of tourism reel sales in Japan was clarified. Expo ʼ70 was an epoch-making event that inspired interest in virtual tourism through stereoscopic vision. This event was one of the key reasons why importers began to introduce and sell View-Master and View-Master reels in Japan. The Expo ʼ70 reels were filmed in early July using moving walkways, leading to a higher tendency for large and colorful buildings to appear in the photographs.
