Fictionality in Tourism : The Case Study of the Inn with the Folklore of “Zashiki Warashi (Child Spirits in House)
Authenticity has been actively discussed in the context of cultural tourism. The concept of “authenticity” has changed over time in the line with social conditions. In addition to authenticity, “fictionality” is a significant element in cultural tourism. This element includes fictional existence such as “yokai” (specters) and ghosts. However, this fictional existence has been overlooked in previous studies on cultural tourism. To address this gap, this study explored how tourists “gaze” fictional existence in the intermediate area of authenticity and fictionality using the inn (ryokan: the Japanese-style hotel), known as the place of Zeshiki Warashi, as a case study. The study offers a new perspective on cultural tourism through a case in which two theoretical positions (constructivist authenticity and existential authenticity), previously thought to be incompatible, are combined
Overview of Instruction for Education of Science
This report is an overview of the activities in the Instruction for Education of Science, which has been launched in the 2018 academic year. The faculty members from different fields have prepared contents of this course to encourage students’ independent activities from various perspectives, with the aim of developing the knowledge of natural science contents and ideas for providing others. In this report, we introduce some of the contents of each class and students’ comments
Development of Teaching Materials for Deep Learning by Making Ceramic Artworks : Visualization of Optimization by Stochastic Gradient Descent
The Interpretation of the Imperfective and Modality in English and Japanese
The English progressive and the Japanese te-i-are both considered to be imperfective aspects. However, unlike the English progressive, the Japanese te-i-can be interpreted as counterfactual when it appears in if-sentences. This paper explores how this interpretation can be achieved through an invited inference, specifically the conditional perfection inference
