Description of the Technique of Making and Playing Techniques 0f Uyup-Uyup Musical Instruments by Mr. Marito Lintang in Huta Dolok Village, Pakantan District, Mandailing Natal Regency

    No full text
Uyup-uyup is a traditional musical instrument that represents the cultural heritage of the Mandailing community. It is made from rice stalks (batang ni eme) wrapped with young coconut leaves shaped like a cone, which serve as the resonator. This instrument holds a social function as a source of entertainment for farmers during their rest periods in the rice fields, particularly during the harvest season. This study aims to provide an in-depth description of the manufacturing process and playing techniques of the uyup-uyup instrument. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method through observation, interviews, documentation, fieldwork, and laboratory analysis. The theoretical framework is based on Khasima Susumu’s structural and functional approach, as well as the musical instrument classification system according to Curt Sachs and Erich M. von Hornbostel. The findings indicate that the process of making the uyup-uyup includes several stages: material selection, tool utilization, component measurement, shaping, and the final finishing stage to produce a precise instrument. The basic playing technique involves blowing through the mouth to produce sound, accompanied by fingering techniques to open and close the resonator holes to create tonal variations. Based on the Sachs-Hornbostel classification system, the uyup-uyup is categorized as a multi-reed aerophone, as its sound is produced by air vibration passing through multiple reed openings within a single instrument.83 PagesSkripsi Sarjan

Instagram Content Marketing Strategy to Increase Sales on the Shopee E-Commerce Platform (A Case Study on USU-Assisted MSME: Hael Beaute)

    No full text
This study examines use of Instagram content marketing strategies to increase sales on the Shopee e-commerce platform, with a case study of Hael Beaute, a USU-assisted MSME in Indonesia's beauty sector. The research focuses on declining customer engagement on Instagram. This issue persists despite Hael Beaute’s large follower base (over 25,000) and inconsistent sales performance between October 2024 and January 2025. The purpose of this research is to analyze the existing Instagram content marketing strategy, identify its challenges, and propose optimal improvements to enhance engagement and drive conversion on Shopee. This research employs a qualitative case study approach, using in-depth interviews with Hael Beaute’s management team and thematic analysis to examine current content strategies. The SOAR framework (Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, Results) was used to identify strategic recommendations. Data on sales transactions and Instagram engagement metrics were triangulated to validate findings. The results reveal that Hael Beaute’s Instagram marketing relied heavily on organic strategies with limited posting frequency. It lacked consistent scheduling, which contributed to a 96% drop in engagement between December 2024 and February 2025. Proposed optimizations include structured content calendars, use of engaging formats like Reels and Stories, improved call-to-action design, collaboration with micro-influencers, and paid amplification strategies. Systematic Instagram content marketing, when tailored to specific audience goals, can transform Instagram into an effective sales funnel for MSMEs like Hael Beaute.231 pagesTesis Magiste

The Art of The Serdang Sultanate in The Sociopolitical Currents from The Colonial Period to The Early Days of The Republic of Indonesia (1900-1946)

    No full text
This study analyzes the role of the arts, specifically music, dance, and sendratasik (a composite art form of drama, dance, and music), within the Serdang Sultanate in response to the sociopolitical dynamics of the 1900–1946 period. Within this framework, the arts are not understood merely as aesthetic expressions but rather as strategic responses to the challenges of their time. The Sultanate's elite and artists, under the leadership of Sultan Sulaiman Syariful Alamsyah, deliberately utilized the arts as a form of soft power and a cultural instrument to convey messages of resistance, strengthen collective identity, and awaken consciousness to fight for communal rights. This research identifies and analyzes several artistic works that emerged during a critical period marked by Dutch colonial hegemony, Japanese occupation, and the lead-up to the proclamation of Indonesian independence. These works served a dual function: not only fulfilling an aesthetic purpose but also acting as a medium for social communication, an expression of resistance, and a tool for negotiating the community's collective identity. The analysis is focused on three primary examples: the song Mahkota Negara (Crown of the State), which functioned as a "national anthem" to consolidate patriotism; the Serampang Dua Belas Dance, as a creative adaptation effort to affirm a modern and dignified Malay image; and the sendratasik Mak Yong, as a medium for cultural resistance against 'misrecognition'—defined here as the denial, distortion, or misjudgment of identity or rights, which negatively impacted dignity, autonomy, and social justice. Employing a qualitative narrative method, along with the theoretical framework of C.A. Van Peursen's Cultural Strategy, Pierre Bourdieu's Theory of Agency in Cultural Practice, and Nancy Fraser's concept of 'Recognition', this study reveals several art forms born from the background of sociopolitical conditions or dynamics. Furthermore, it highlights the role of the Serdang Sultanate's elite and artists who actively actualized their agency to maintain the integrity and sovereignty of their state amidst power struggles.172 PagesTesis Magiste

Correlation between QRS Complex Duration and Left Ventricle Ejection Fraction in Acute Heart Failure Patients Based with Fragmented QRS on Electrocardiography Finding at Rumah Sakit Adam Malik Medan

    No full text
Introduction. Heart failure is a clinical syndrome caused by ventricular dysfunction or structural abnormalities, affecting 1–3% of adults globally, with higher prevalence in those over 65. In Asia, there are around 721,100 cases, with 5% in Indonesia. Based on LVEF, it is classified into HFrEF, HFmrEF, and HFpEF. Fragmented QRS (fQRS) on ECG indicates myocardial damage and reduced LVEF. Indonesian studies highlight fQRS in assessing myocardial injury and heart failure severity. This study analyzed the relationship between QRS duration and LVEF in patients with heart failure at Adam Malik Hospital Medan. Method. A cross-sectional study was conducted at Adam Malik Hospital Medan from January-December 2023. Participants were selected through consecutive sampling, meeting inclusion criteria of acute heart failure diagnosis and documented LVEF, while those with pacemakers, defibrillators, or acute myocardial infarction were excluded. Data were analyzed using SPSS 26, with Spearman test for correlation of QRS duration and LVEF. A Cardiovascular Consultant evaluated the fQRS data for accuracy. Result. Heart failure patients at Adam Malik General Hospital had a mean age of 53,25 ± 12,02 years, with 60,5% male. fQRS duration ranged from 80–180 ms in the fQRS (+) group and 78–110 ms in the fQRS (-) group. LVEF <50% was found in 55,6% of patients, while 44,4% had LVEF ≥50%. A weak negative association existed between QRS duration and LVEF (r = -0,255, p = 0,021). Conclusion: The QRS complex duration was found higher in group with fQRS (+) compared to fQRS (-). A weak negative correlation was found between QRS duration and LVEF.93 pagesTesis Magiste

The Relationship between VAL66MET Polymorphism of the Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) Gene and Restless Leg Syndrome in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease Undergoing Regular Hemodialysis

    No full text
Background: Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) is a common sensorimotor disorder among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis. Genetic factors, including the Val66Met polymorphism of the Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) gene, are suggested to contribute to RLS pathogenesis through impaired neuroplasticity and dopaminergic dysfunction. However, such associations have not been extensively studied in the Indonesian population. Objective: To investigate the association between the Val66Met polymorphism of the BDNF gene and the occurrence of RLS in CKD patients undergoing regular hemodialysis. Methods: This case-control study included 70 DNA samples from CKD patients at Rasyida Kidney Hospital, Medan—35 with RLS and 35 without. Genotyping was performed using the PCR-RFLP method. Statistical analyses included Chi-Square and logistic regression tests with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: Most subjects were over 40 years old (95.7%) and female (60%). The Val66Met genotype distribution was dominated by Val/Met (50%), followed by Val/Val (37.1%) and Met/Met (12.9%). The Val allele was found in 62.14% and the Met allele in 37.85% of subjects. The Val/Met genotype showed a significant association with RLS (p < 0.001; OR = 7.333; 95% CI = 5.221–146.968). Multivariate analysis confirmed that age (p = 0.001; OR = 1.482; 95% CI = 1.333– 1.570) and BDNF polymorphism (p = 0.001; OR = 7.375; 95% CI = 4.392–12.837) were significant predictors of RLS, while sex and anemia were not statistically significant. Conclusion: The Val66Met polymorphism of the BDNF gene—particularly the Val/Met genotype—is significantly associated with increased risk of RLS among CKD patients undergoing regular hemodialysis. These findings support the potential role of BDNF as a genetic biomarker in the pathophysiology and management of RLS in chronic kidney disease populations. Keywords: Chronic kidney disease, hemodialysis, BDNF, Val66Met polymorphism, Restless Legs Syndrome.68 PagesTesis Magiste
