LOGICAL FUNCTION IN SELECTED ENGLISH NURSERY TALES: SYSTEMIC FUNCTIONAL PERSPECTIVE

    No full text
This study investigated the logical function of clause complexes in two selected English nursery tales, Jack the Giant Killer and Jack and the Beanstalk, using Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) framework. The research focuses on the realization of clause interpendency through the taxis system (parataxis, hypotaxis, and taxis combination) and logico-semantic relations (elaboration, extension, enhancement, idea and locution). The method employed is qualitative content analysis based on Krippendorf involving processes such as unitizing, sampling, coding, reducing, interpreting, and narrating. From 1,048 clauses analyzed, 341 wereidentified as clause complexes. The findings show that enhancement is the most dominant logicosemantic relation (164 cases), followed by extension (123 cases), elaboration (100 cases), locution (57 cases), andidea (22 cases). The findings also show that paratxis is the most dominant taxis in selected English nursery tales. While hypotaxis relations mostly realized in enhancement, while extension appeared dominantly in parataxis. These results reveal that although nursery tales are intended for children, they often employ complex grammatical structure, therefore, balancing narrative engagement and linguistic accessibility is crucial to support children’s language development and reading comprehension.117Skripsi Sarjan

Peran Iklim Sekolah terhadap Creative Self-Efficacy pada Siswa di Indonesia berdasarkan Data PISA 2022

    No full text
Creative self-efficacy is a key factor supporting student creativity. Concurrently, students' external environment, such as the school climate, is crucial in fostering this creative self-efficacy. This study aims to determine if school climate plays a role in students' creative self-efficacy in Indonesia. Secondary data from PISA 2022 were utilized, with a sample of 13,439 students from across Indonesia. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that F(5,13.433) = 501.830, p < 0,001, R2 = 0,157. The findings indicate that school climate, both simultaneously and partially, contributes to creative self-efficacy. All school climate indicators, including sense of belonging, being bullied, feeling safe, school safety risks, and creative teacher support, individually showed a positive role in creative self-efficacy. Future research is recommended to further discuss other factors influencing creative self-efficacy, as well as the specific characteristics of bullying and violence among students in Indonesia.109 PagesSkripsi Sarjan

Real-Time Detection of Mobile Phone Usage by Four Wheeled Vehicle Drivers Using the YOLOv8 Methode

    No full text
The behavior of using mobile phones while driving is one of the primary sources of distraction among four-wheeled vehicle drivers contributing to an increased risk of traffic accidents. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in 2023, the United States as one of the countries with the largest number of four-wheeled vehicle users recorded 3,275 fatalities caused by distracted driving with mobile phone usage identified as a major contributing factor. To minimize such risks, this study developed a real-time detection system for identifying mobile phone usage behavior in drivers by implementing the You Only Look Once version 8 (YOLOv8) object detection method. The system was implemented in an Android-based application that utilizes the front camera to monitor the driver’s activity during driving. Data collection was conducted by creating a custom dataset consisting of driver images in both phone-usage and non-usage conditions. The visible presence of a phone being held directly by the driver’s hand was used as a key parameter in detecting phone usage behavior. Based on the evaluation results, the system was able to detect phone usage behavior with an accuracy of 83% and a recall of 0.84. However, the precision score of 0.68 indicated a significant rate of false alarms, mostly caused by the similarity between hand poses during non-usage and phone-holding conditions. This suggests a bias in the model and its failure to properly recognize the phone object itself. Additionally, the system was capable of operating in real-time with frame rate 5–8 FPS and an inference time of 65 ms on a POCO X7 Pro device.69 PagesSkripsi Sarjan

The Role of Self-Control Against Grit in Students Working on Thesis at the Faculty of Psychology, University of North Sumatra

    No full text
Self-control Grit is perseverance and passion for achieving long-term goals, characterized by interest and persistence. Self-control is one of the factors influencing grit in helping individuals manage negative emotions such as sadness, anger, or frustration that can hinder achievement, develop discipline, and assist individuals in overcoming difficulties and failures. The purpose of this study is to examine whether there is a positive role of self-control on grit among undergraduate students working on their theses at the Faculty of Psychology, University of North Sumatra. The sample consisted of 50 students. This study used a quantitative method with data collection using a Likert scale, namely the Self-Control Scale developed by the researcher based on the aspects of Self-Control by Baumeister (2012). The data obtained were analyzed using assumption testing and hypothesis testing techniques. The results of the analysis indicate that self-control has a significant positive role in grit, with the regression equation formed as Y = 68.894 + 0.063 X (where Y is the grit score and X is the self-control score), with a regression coefficient b = 0.063 that is significant at p < 0.001. The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.378 indicates that approximately 37.8% of the variability in grit scores can be explained by differences in self-control scores. These findings suggest that self-control has a positive role in grit among students working on their theses at the Faculty of Psychology, University of North Sumatra.102 PagesSkripsi Sarjan

Comparative Analysis of Exclusive Dealing Arrangements in Competition Law in Indonesia and Australia

    No full text
Every transaction in economic activity is always based on an agreement or contractual relationship that binds the parties to the agreement. This framework is a contradiction to competition, where competition is supposed to compete for market dominance and not bind each other. Therefore, competition law in Indonesia stipulates agreements that are prohibited. Prohibition of monopolistic practices and anticompetition Act Number 5 1999 contains 14 types of prohibited agreements, one of which is an exclusive dealing regulated in Article 15. Exclusive dealing are divided into 3 types; exclusive distribution dealing, tying agreement and vertical agreement on discount. Exclusive dealings are not only regulated in Indonesian competition law. Australia as a country with an earlier developed competition law system also regulates exclusive dealing through Section 47 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010, which includes 13 subsections. The regulation also has a connected with Section 93 regarding notification of exclusive dealing. Although both countries regulate exclusive dealing, there are differences and similarities in their regulation. This thesis aims to analyze exclusive dealing in competition law in Indonesia and Australia by comparing competition law, exclusive dealing instruments, and exclusive dealing cases. The research method used is normative law method with comparative study approach. This research is descriptive in nature by describing legal phenomena obtained from literature study. The regulation of exclusive dealing in competition law in Indonesia and Australia has similarities and differences. The differences include the legal system, the authority of competition law enforcement commission, the process of competition law enforcement, the amount of fines, the consideration of judges, the types of exclusive dealing, the approach in competition law, and the notification of exclusive dealing. In addition to these differences, there are similarities in the regulation of business competition law between the two countries, in terms of analyzing violations of agreements and the types of sanctions given; administrative sanctions and criminal sanctions.155 PagesSkripsi Sarjan

Detection and Classification of Knee Osteoarthritis in X-ray Images Using ResNet-50 and DenseNet-121 with Web-Based Visualization

    No full text
Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common types of joint disorders in the elderly, characterized by pain and limited mobility. This study aims to develop a hybrid deep learning model to detect and classify the severity of knee OA in X-ray images using a combination of ResNet-50 and DenseNet-121 architecture. The severity is determined based on the Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) grading system, which consists of five grades (0-4). The dataset used was obtained from Roboflow and Dr. Pirngadi General Hospital Medan (RSUD Dr. Pirngadi Medan), with a total of 5,353 images after preprocessing. The model was trained using transfer learning and fine-tuning approaches, then integrated into a Streamlit-based web application. The model performance was evaluated using accuracy, precision, recall, and f1-score metrics. The evaluation resulted in an accuracy value of 60.1%, an average precision of 61.7%, an average recall of 59.5%, and an average f1-score of 60.2%. The model experienced overfitting and bias toward grade 4 (severe), and was unable to accurately classify other grades. This issue was caused by the limited size of the dataset and the model being too complex for a small dataset. Although the accuracy obtained was not optimal, the system has potential as an early-stage tool for knee OA detection and classification, and can be optimized through model training with more balanced and diverse dataset.82 PagesSkripsi Sarjan

The Relationship Between Vitamin D Level On Vulvovaginal Atrophy Symptomps Evaluated Using Vaginal Maturation Index In Menopausal Woman

    No full text
Background: Vulvovaginal atrophy (VVA) is a common complaint among postmenopausal women due to estrogen deficiency, leading to dryness, irritation, and discomfort, significantly affecting their quality of life. Recent studies suggest that Vitamin D may play a role in maintaining vaginal epithelial integrity and immune function, but its relationship with VVA remains underexplored. Objective: This study aims to investigate the relationship between serum Vitamin D levels and vulvovaginal atrophy, assessed using the Vaginal Maturity Index (VMI), in postmenopausal women. Methods: This was an observational analytical study with a cross-sectional design conducted at the University of Sumatera Utara Hospital. A total of 32 postmenopausal women were enrolled. Data collection included demographic characteristics, serum Vitamin D levels, and VMI assessment. Statistical analysis was performed using the Spearman correlation test. Results: The mean Vitamin D level among participants was 19.5 ± 5.6 ng/mL, indicating a deficiency. The mean VMI score was 59.16 ± 8.99. A significant positive correlation was found between serum Vitamin D levels and VMI scores (r = 0.610, p = 0.001), suggesting that higher Vitamin D levels were associated with better vaginal epithelial maturity. Conclusion: There is a strong correlation between Vitamin D levels and VMI in postmenopausal women. These findings suggest that Vitamin D may play a role in maintaining vaginal health and could be considered in managing VVA symptoms. Further research is needed to explore Vitamin D supplementation as a potential therapeutic strategy for VVA in postmenopausal women.91 PagesTesis Magiste
