    Investigation of low-cost methods for managing dairy effluent generated from a cowshed equipped with a pipeline milker

    journal article本研究では、カウシェード用パイプラインミルカーを備えた既設のつなぎ飼い牛舎から排出される搾乳関連排水を対象とし、高価な浄化処理施設を用いない、低コスト管理に向けた対応方法を検討した。対象酪農場 2 軒(A, B)は、ミルクパイプの平均傾斜が適切な角度(0.5°)以上であるにも関わらず、含まれる生乳が標準的な濃度(0.3%)より著しく高いため、搾乳関連排水に関して問題を抱えていた。現地調査や水質分析を実施し、簡易な浄化施設(例えば越流式沈殿槽)を用いても排水基準を満たすことは困難であるため、原水の汚濁度合を下げる(同排水に混じる生乳を少なくする)対応を実施した。一つは、尿ための貯留可能日数に余裕がある A 酪農場の場合であり、搾乳関連排水の汚濁度合を高める原因である「前すすぎ排水」(搾乳終了後の循環洗浄で最初に排出される白濁した排水)を搾乳関連排水に混ぜずに、電動バルブなどを用いて尿ために導き、尿液とともに圃場還元する対応を検討した。尿ための貯留日数に余裕がない B 酪農場の場合には、酪農家にとって日々の手間と時間を要するが、搾乳が終了しても、5~10 分程度は真空ポンプ等の運転を続けることによる、エアー回収によりミルクパイプ内の残乳回収を実施し、残乳が搾乳関連排水に混ざらないようにした。結果として、搾乳関連排水の汚濁度合はいずれの酪農場においても低下し、排水路はきれいになった。したがって、高価な浄化処理施設を導入しなくても、本研究で提案した搾乳関連排水の汚濁度合を低減させる対応は、同排水を適切に管理する一手法になることが明らかになった。This study proposes two low-cost methods for managing dairy effluent generated from a cowshed equipped with a pipeline milker, avoiding the need to use expensive equipment for purification processing. The two dairy farms investigated in this study (A and B) showed a raw milk concentration in the dairy effluent that was markedly higher than the standard concentration of 0.3%, even though the average slope of the milk pipes was appropriate (⪰0.5°). Site surveys and water quality analysis indicated that simple purification equipment such as a settling tank with overflow would be insufficient to meet the effluent standards. Thus, countermeasures were needed to reduce the raw milk concentration. In cases such as Farm A, where there is sufficient time before the manure storage equipment needs to emptied, the proposed countermeasure involved draining the “pre-washing water” (the first white cloudy effluent produced by circulation cleaning after milking is completed, and a cause of increased turbidity of dairy effluent) into the manure storage equipment, using electrically operated valves for recycled use in the fields. This prevented it from being mixed with the dairy effluent. In cases such as Farm B, where there is not sufficient time before the manure storage equipment needs to be emptied, the proposed countermeasure involved collecting residual milk in the milk pipe by continuously running pumps for 5-10 min after milking in order to prevent it from mixing with the dairy effluent. However, this approach required greater time and effort from dairy farmers. When these proposed countermeasures were implemented, the turbidity of dairy effluent decreased at both dairy farms and the drainage channels became cleaner. The proposed methods were shown to reduce the turbidity of the dairy effluent without the need to introduce expensive purification processing methods, and thus can be a low-cost option for managing dairy effluent.journal articl

    Awareness of Rakuno Gakuen University and issues to work on for improvement : From a survey of affiliated high school students

    Bulletin本研究では,受験を控える中高校生が本学園やその各種取組(教育・研究・地域貢献)をどの程度認知し,何を期待しているのかを明らかにするため,附属高校生へのアンケート調査,さらには学生へのヒアリング調査を実施した。分析から,本学に対する生徒の認知度は高く,知ったきっかけはHP という回答が最も多かった。また,学類別にみると食と健康学類の認知度が高く,⽛食⽜に関心を持つ生徒が多いことがその要因と考えられた。また,課題として高校生に対する大学のPR は,SNS,中でもYouTube とTikTok が有効であり,マスメディアの効用は小さいことが示された。In this study, we conducted an interview survey in order to clarify the extent to which junior high and high school students who are preparing to take entrance exams are aware of our university and our various efforts (education, research and local contributions), and what they expect from us. The analysis shows that students have a high level of awareness of our university, and most of them said that they learned about us through the website. In addition, when looking at each academic department, the school of food and health sciences had a high degree of recognition, which is likely to be due to the large number of students interested in food. Also, it was shown that SNS, especially YouTube and TikTok, are effective in promoting the university to high school students and that the effectiveness of the traditional media is small.departmental bulletin pape

    Soil carbon sequestration in forage crop fields in the Bunkyodai area of Rakuno Gakuen, Hokkaido, Japan

    Bulletin酪農学園フィールド教育研究センター酪農生産ステーションおける土壌炭素貯留を調査した。文京台地区35圃場(合計51.2 ha)において2014~2020年に採取された作土の強熱減量を測定し,土壌炭素含量を求めた。解析の結果,土壌炭素含量が低い圃場では飼料畑から採草地への転換が土壌炭素含量を上昇させること,土壌炭素含量が高くない圃場では草地の長期的維持が土壌炭素含量を上昇させること,採草地から飼料畑へ転換してそれを維持することは土壌炭素含量を低下させることが示唆された。35圃場における年間土壌炭素隔離は21 t-C/yearであったと概算した。一方,トラクター使用による年間二酸化炭素排出量は19.6 t-C/year と推定された。本研究の結果は,計画的な土地利用で土壌有機物を増加させることは飼料作物生産のための土壌の質の向上に加え,土壌炭素隔離が農業経営体における二酸化炭素排出の一部を相殺することによる地球温暖化緩和にも貢献できる可能性を示している。We investigated soil carbon sequestration in forage crop fields (35 fields, 51.2 ha total) in the Bunkyodai area of Rakuno Gakuen, Hokkaido, Japan. Annual changes in soil carbon contents were assessed by measuring soil organic matter (SOM) via loss on ignition from 2014 to 2020. Our results suggest that (i) in soils with low carbon content, land use change from maize field to meadow increases the soil carbon content, (ii) in soils with medium or low carbon content, preserving meadow land use increases the soil carbon content, and (iii) land use change from meadow to maize field decreases the soil carbon content over time. We estimated annual soil carbon sequestration, in the form of SOM, was 21 t-C year-1 in the 35 fields. Annual carbon dioxide emission (diesel fuel combustion in tractors) was estimated at 19. 6 t-C year-1. Our findings indicate that increasing SOM by land use planning contributes to both improving soil quality for forage crop production and mitigating global warming by offsetting farm equipment carbon dioxide emissions through soil carbon sequestration.departmental bulletin pape
