Measurement of the Polarisation of Single Top Quarks and Antiquarks Produced in the T-Channel at √s = 13 Tev and Bounds on the Twb Dipole Operator From the Atlas Experiment
A simultaneous measurement of the three components of the top-quark and top-antiquark polarisation vectors in t-channel single-top-quark production is presented. This analysis is based on data from proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1, collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Selected events contain exactly one isolated electron or muon, large missing transverse momentum and exactly two jets, one being b-tagged. Stringent selection requirements are applied to discriminate t-channel single-top-quark events from the background contributions. The top-quark and top-antiquark polarisation vectors are measured from the distributions of the direction cosines of the charged-lepton momentum in the top-quark rest frame. The three components of the polarisation vector for the selected top-quark event sample are Px′ = 0.01 ± 0.18, Py′ = −0.029 ± 0.027, Pz′ = 0.91 ± 0.10 and for the top-antiquark event sample they are Px′ = −0.02 ± 0.20, Py′ = −0.007 ± 0.051, Pz′ = 0.79 ± 0.16. Normalised differential cross-sections corrected to a fiducial region at the stable-particle level are presented as a function of the charged-lepton angles for top-quark and top-antiquark events inclusively and separately. These measurements are in agreement with Standard Model predictions. The angular differential cross-sections are used to derive bounds on the complex Wilson coefficient of the dimension-six OtW operator in the framework of an effective field theory. The obtained bounds are CtW ∈ [−0.9, 1.4] and CitW ∈ [−0.8, 0.2], both at 95% confidence level. [Figure not available: see fulltext.]. © 2022, The Author(s)

Exploring the Potential of Transfer Learning for Chatter Detection
3rd International Conference on Industry 4.0 and Smart Manufacturing (ISM) -- NOV 17-19, 2021 -- Upper Austria Univ Appl Sci, Hagenberg Campus, Linz, AUSTRIAChatter detection and avoidance are indispensable for many industries that rely on the machining process. The physics-based analytical models and recently successful machine learning methods can provide solutions using data from a unique setting. When the primary conditions of machining alter, new data needs to be collected, and analysis/training should be revised. Unfortunately, data collection is time-consuming and expensive for all machine learning applications. Therefore, broader applications of these methods are usually hindered at high production rate machining shops. Transfer learning aims to attenuate this critical barrier of machine learning implementations by transferring knowledge generated from a source domain to a different but related domain. As the concept has immense potential as an accelerator for machine learning applications, it has many prospects in Industry 4.0 framework. This article provides an introduction to transfer learning and briefly overviews its categorizations. Afterward, its potential for chatter detection is explored, and potential strategies are exemplified. Recent studies in the literature within the strategies are briefly presented as well. Investigation of Seropositivity of Tularemia Brucellosis and Leptospirosis in Humans in Northern Cyprus
More than half of the infectious diseases seen in humans are zoonotic. These diseases are still prevalent worldwide and affect humans as well as domestic and wild animals. In this study, it was aimed to determine the seropositivities of tularemia, brucellosis and leptospirosis in Northern Cyprus by conducting a cross-sectional study. The Microagglutination test (MAT) for Francisella tularensis, the Rose Bengal Plate test (RBPT), Standard Agglutination test (SAT) and Complement Fixation test (CFT) for Brucella spp., and the ELISA test for Leptospira spp. were used for the investigation of the presence of antibodies in 430 human blood serum samples consecutively collected for the study. F tularensis seropositivity was 0.93% (4/430) and Brucella spp. seropositivity was determined as 0.23% (1/430), no positivity was found for leptospira species, and there were no cases of coinfection. Considering the limited number of serological studies for zoonoses in Northern Cyprus, our research appears to be the first report in which all three zoonotic infections were evaluated together in the region. These data reveal that these diseases are present on the island despite low sero-prevalence levels. It is thought that it is necessary to determine risk factors and take necessary measures with a 'one health' approach in the region, and to carry out more comprehensive studies for the detection and control of these diseases

A Mathematical Model of Infant Thermoregulation System for Investigating Heat Exchange Mechanisms: A Biological System Model
Medical Technologies Congress (TIPTEKNO) -- OCT 31-NOV 02, 2022 -- Antalya, TURKEYThe infant mortality rate is an important indicator of maternal and infant health, as well as global health status in general. In 2018, annual infant deaths were announced at 4.0 million. The main causes must be pointed out for decreasing infant deaths and unexplained death situations (SIDS). Infants' thermoregulation systems malfunctioning or hypothermia-hyperthermia situations are proposed as the primary or ultimate causes of SIDS. On these foundations, before generating a model, developed thermoregulation system models were examined. Using infant-specific parameters and more precise ambient conditions, the model depth was increased. To investigate the thermal distribution of the infant body, the infant body was divided into 7 compartments, which were then sliced into layers. The thermoregulation system of infants was simulated using thermodynamic equations and generated equations. The model's accuracy was tested by comparing its findings to those from experiments and data from the literature. The results unmistakably demonstrated that the model's data and those gathered from the real system and the literature are in good agreement.Financial support for this study by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) with B2210-D National Industrial MSc/MA Scholarship Program under grant no. 1649B022100041 is gratefully acknowledged. Band-Gap Engineering, Magnetic Behavior and Dirac-Semimetal Character in the Mosi2n4 Nanoribbon With Armchair and Zigzag Edges
Motivated by the recent successful formation of the MoSi2N4 monolayer (Hong et al 2020 Science 369, 670), the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of MoSi2N4 nanoribbons (NRs) is investigated for the first time. The band structure calculations showed spin-polarization in zigzag edges and a non-magnetic semiconducting character in armchair edges. For armchair-edges, we identify an indirect to direct bandgap shift compared to the MoSi2N4 monolayer, and its energy gap increases with increasing NR width. Anisotropic electrical and magnetic behaviors are observed via band structure calculations at the zigzag and armchair edges, where, surprisingly, for one type of zigzag-edge configuration, we identifed a Dirac-semimetal character. The appearance of magnetism and Dirac-semimetal in MoSi2N4 ribbons can give rise to novel physical properties, which could be helpful in applications for next-generation electronic devices. This work was supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) grant funded by the Korea government (MSIT) (NRF-2015M2B2A4033123).National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) - Korea government (MSIT) [NRF-2015M2B2A4033123
Infinite Spaces Using Recursive Portals
7th International Conference on Computer Science and Engineering, UBMK 2022 -- 14 September 2022 through 16 September 2022 -- 183844One of the strongest aspects of virtual reality (VR) hardware and applications is the immersion it provides to the user. While combination of techniques such as real-walking for locomotion, head movement for gaze direction and hand detection for controls are great for immersive experience; when the real space and the virtual environment does not match, developers must resort to alternative locomotion techniques such as teleportation, controller-assisted movement or in-place walking via external devices. Despite lifting the restrictions on physical spaces, these techniques may need expensive or cumbersome hardware, cause nausea and dizziness on the user or simply diminish the immersion. We propose a portal based environment design method and a modern rendering engine to visualize the created scenes. Our method uses the same physical space by overlapping multiple regions of the virtual environment on top of each other while keeping the affine properties of the scene. The user can walk between different virtual rooms while staying in a limited physical space. We also conduct a user study to compare user experience to state-of-the-art physical-virtual environment mapping method; in which, the users strongly favored our method. © 2022 IEEE
