A Bootstrapping-Based Weighted Average Asymptotic Sampling Formulation for Reliability Estimation of Highly Safe Structures

    No full text
Asymptotic sampling (AS) is an efficient simulation-based technique for estimating the small failure probabilities of structures. AS utilizes the asymptotic behavior of the reliability index with respect to the standard deviations of random variables. In this method, the standard deviations of random variables are progressively inflated using a scale parameter to obtain a set of scaled reliability indices. The collection of the standard deviation scale parameters and corresponding scaled reliability indices are called support points. Then, least squares regression is performed using these support points to establish a relationship between the scale parameter and scaled reliability indices. Finally, extrapolation is performed to estimate the actual reliability index. Various extrapolation models have been used in AS to improve accuracy. Moreover, a mean extrapolation formulation using the average value of different extrapolation models was proposed to further improve its accuracy. Although the mean extrapolation formulation protects against using the wrong extrapolation model, it did not guarantee a reliability estimation better than that of the best available extrapolation model. In this paper, we propose a weighted average AS formulation in which the weight factors are optimized to minimize the variance of the reliability index estimation through the bootstrapping method. In the weight factor determination, both convex and affine formulations are considered and the results are compared. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated using six benchmark example problems and a complicated engineering problem. It is found that the proposed weighted average formulation has higher accuracy than the mean extrapolation formulation. For weight factor optimization, the affine formulation yields more accurate results than the convex formulation in most cases

Observation of Electroweak Production of Two Jets and a Z-Boson Pair [2]

Electroweak symmetry breaking explains the origin of the masses of elementary particles through their interactions with the Higgs field. Besides the measurements of the Higgs boson properties, the study of the scattering of massive vector bosons with spin one allows the nature of electroweak symmetry breaking to be probed. Among all processes related to vector-boson scattering, the electroweak production of two jets and a Z-boson pair is a rare and important one. Here we report the observation of this process from proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1) recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. We consider two different final states originating from the decays of the Z-boson pair - one containing four charged leptons and the other containing two charged leptons and two neutrinos. The hypothesis of no electroweak production is rejected with a statistical significance of 5.7 sigma, and the measured cross-section for electroweak production is consistent with the standard model prediction. In addition, we report cross-sections for inclusive production of a Z-boson pair and two jets for the two final states.ANPCyT, Argentina; YerPhI, Armenia; ARC, Australia; BMWFW, Austria; FWF, Austria; ANAS, Azerbaijan; SSTC, Belarus; CNPq, Brazil; FAPESP, Brazil; NSERC, Canada; NRC, Canada; CFI, Canada; CERN; ANID, Chile; CAS, China; MOST, China; NSFC, China; Minciencias, Colombia; MEYS CR, Czech Republic; DNRF, Denmark; DNSRC, Denmark; IN2P3-CNRS, France; CEA-DRF/IRFU, France; SRNSFG, Georgia; BMBF, Germany; HGF, Germany; MPG, Germany; GSRI, Greece; RGC, China; Hong Kong SAR, China; ISF, Israel; Benoziyo Center, Israel; INFN, Italy; MEXT, Japan; JSPS, Japan; CNRST, Morocco; NWO, Netherlands; RCN, Norway; MEiN, Poland; FCT, Portugal; MNE/IFA, Romania; JINR; MES of Russia; NRC KI, Russian Federation; MESTD, Serbia; MSSR, Slovakia; ARRS, Slovenia; MIZS, Slovenia; DSI/NRF, South Africa; MICINN, Spain; SRC, Sweden; Wallenberg Foundation, Sweden; SERI, Switzerland; SNSF, Switzerland; Canton of Bern, Switzerland; Canton of Geneva, Switzerland; MOST, Taiwan; TAEK, Turkey; STFC, United Kingdom; DOE, United States of America; NSF, United States of America; BCKDF, Canada; CANARIE, Canada; Compute Canada, Canada; CRC, Canada; COST, European Union; ERC, European Union; ERDF, European Union; Horizon 2020, European Union; Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions, European Union; Investissements d'Avenir Labex, France; Investissements d'Avenir Idex, France; ANR, France; DFG, Germany; AvH Foundation, Germany; Herakleitos programme - EU-ESF, Greece; Thales - EU-ESF, Greece; Aristeia programme - EU-ESF, Greece; Greek NSRF, Greece; BSF-NSF, Israel; GIF, Israel; Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021, Norway; NCN, Poland; NAWA, Poland; La Caixa Banking Foundation, Spain; CERCA Programme Generalitat de Catalunya, Spain; PROMETEO Programme Generalitat Valenciana, Spain; GenT Programme Generalitat Valenciana, Spain; Goran Gustafssons Stiftelse, Sweden; Royal Society, United Kingdom; Leverhulme Trust, United KingdomWe acknowledge the support of ANPCyT, Argentina; YerPhI, Armenia; ARC, Australia; BMWFW and FWF, Austria; ANAS, Azerbaijan; SSTC, Belarus; CNPq and FAPESP, Brazil; NSERC, NRC and CFI, Canada; CERN; ANID, Chile; CAS, MOST and NSFC, China; Minciencias, Colombia; MEYS CR, Czech Republic; DNRF and DNSRC, Denmark; IN2P3-CNRS and CEA-DRF/IRFU, France; SRNSFG, Georgia; BMBF, HGF and MPG, Germany; GSRI, Greece; RGC and Hong Kong SAR, China; ISF and Benoziyo Center, Israel; INFN, Italy; MEXT and JSPS, Japan; CNRST, Morocco; NWO, Netherlands; RCN, Norway; MEiN, Poland; FCT, Portugal; MNE/IFA, Romania; JINR; MES of Russia and NRC KI, Russian Federation; MESTD, Serbia; MSSR, Slovakia; ARRS and MIZS, Slovenia; DSI/NRF, South Africa; MICINN, Spain; SRC and Wallenberg Foundation, Sweden; SERI, SNSF and Cantons of Bern and Geneva, Switzerland; MOST, Taiwan; TAEK, Turkey; STFC, United Kingdom; DOE and NSF, United States of America. Search for Heavy Long-Lived Multi-Charged Particles in the Full Lhc Run 2 Pp Collision Data at S=13 Tev Using the Atlas Detector

    No full text
A search for heavy long-lived multi-charged particles is performed using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Data collected in 2015–2018 at s=13 TeV from pp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1 are examined. Particles producing anomalously high ionization, consistent with long-lived spin-½ massive particles with electric charges from |q|=2e to |q|=7e are searched for. No statistically significant evidence of such particles is observed, and 95% confidence level cross-section upper limits are calculated and interpreted as the lower mass limits for a Drell–Yan plus photon-fusion production mode. The least stringent limit, 1060 GeV, is obtained for |q|=2e particles, and the most stringent one, 1600 GeV, is for |q|=6e particles. © 2023 The Author(s)IN2P3-CNRS; CC-IN2P3; 2014-2021; SCI/013; U.S. Department of Energy, USDOE; Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung, AvH; Alabama Space Grant Consortium, ASGC; Brookhaven National Laboratory, BNL; Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, KIT; H2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, MSCA; Multiple Sclerosis Scientific Research Foundation, MSSRF; CERN; Göran Gustafssons Stiftelser; Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, NSERC; National Research Council Canada, NRC; Canada Foundation for Innovation, CFI; Science and Technology Facilities Council, STFC; Leverhulme Trust; European Research Council, ERC; European Cooperation in Science and Technology, COST; Australian Research Council, ARC; National Stroke Foundation, NSF; Neurosurgical Research Foundation, NRF; Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft, HGF; Minerva Foundation; Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG; Agence Nationale de la Recherche, ANR; Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, JSPS; Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, MEXT; Schweizerischer Nationalfonds zur Förderung der Wissenschaftlichen Forschung, SNF; Danmarks Grundforskningsfond, DNRF; Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo, FAPESP; National Natural Science Foundation of China, NSFC; Ministerstvo Školství, Mládeže a Tělovýchovy, MŠMT; Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, FCT; Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF; Chinese Academy of Sciences, CAS; Austrian Science Fund, FWF; Generalitat de Catalunya; Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, MOST; Agencia Nacional de Promoción Científica y Tecnológica, ANPCyT; Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek, NWO; Bundesministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Wirtschaft, BMWFW; Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico, CNPq; Nella and Leon Benoziyo Center for Neurological Diseases, Weizmann Institute of Science; Israel Science Foundation, ISF; Instituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, INFN; Narodowe Centrum Nauki, NCN; Javna Agencija za Raziskovalno Dejavnost RS, ARRS; Ministarstvo Prosvete, Nauke i Tehnološkog Razvoja, MPNTR; Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, MICINN; Centre National pour la Recherche Scientifique et Technique, CNRST; Staatssekretariat für Bildung, Forschung und Innovation, SBFI; Horizon 2020; British Columbia Knowledge Development Fund, BCKDF: 21/SCI/017; European Regional Development Fund, ERDF; Defence Science Institute, DSI; Narodowa Agencja Wymiany Akademickiej, NAWA; Institutul de Fizică Atomică, IFA; Agencia Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo, ANID; Royal Society of South Australia, RSSA; Irish Rugby Football Union, IRF

The Multi-Period Home Healthcare Routing and Scheduling Problem With Electric Vehicles

    No full text
This paper studies the multi-period home healthcare routing and scheduling problem with homogeneous electric vehicles and time windows. The problem aims to construct the weekly routes of healthcare nurses, which provide service to the patients located at a scattered geographic area. Some patients may require to be visited more than once in the same workday and/or in the same workweek. We consider three charging technologies; normal, fast, and super-fast. The vehicles might be charged during the working day at a charging station or at the end of the working day at the depot. Charging a vehicle at a depot at the end of a working day requires the transfer of the corresponding nurse from the depot to her/his home. The objective is to minimize the total cost that comprises the fixed cost of utilizing healthcare nurses, the energy charging costs, the costs associated with depot-to-nurse home transfer services, and the costs of a patient left unserved. We formulate a mathematical model and develop an adaptive large neighborhood search metaheuristic that has been efficiently crafted to handle specific problem features. We conduct extensive computational experiments on benchmark instances to assess the competitiveness of the heuristic and to deeply analyze the problem. Our analysis shows the importance of competency level matching as mismatching competency levels could increase the costs of home healthcare providers.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) [119M007]AcknowledgementsThis work was supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) under grant number 119M007. The aim of this study was to examine how seven body and appearance related self-conscious emotions, namely guilt, embarrassment, shame, envy, self-disgust, hubristic and authentic pride, are experienced, made sense of, and regulated in individuals with a diagnostic history of eating disorders and disordered eating behaviors and attitudes. In addition, it was also aimed to further investigate the role of these seven emotions in disordered eating behaviors and attitudes. In line with these aims, scenario-based semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven participants and the data were analyzed using content analysis. As a result of the analysis, six main themes were reached: triggers, emotional experiences, behavioral experiences, cognitive experiences, behavioral strategies and cognitive strategies. The findings were generally consistent with the existing literature and indicated that negative self-conscious emotions related to body and appearance are experienced with maladaptive cognitive and behavioral patterns in eating disorders. It was also found that perfectionism may play a role in inhibiting the positive outcomes of the experience of body-related authentic pride. However, the findings suggest that body and appearance related self-conscious emotions are regulated by both functional and dysfunctional strategies and that binge eating and food restriction behaviors are used as emotion regulation strategies. 1. Ulusal Nörogörüntüleme Kongresi (NGK 2023) 7-9 Eylül 2023 / 1st National Neuroimaging Congress 7–9 September 2023Functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) has been used in an exponentially increasing number of studies over the years in areas such as cognitive and clinical neuroscience, brain-computer interface, neuroergonomics. Compared to a hemodynamic response-based technique such as functional magnetic resonance imaging, it is a preferred functional neuroimaging modality due to its portability, ease of use, tolerance to motion artifacts and higher temporal resolution. Functional Diffusion Correlation Spectroscopy (fDCS), which has a similar physical principle with fNIRS, is a technique based on measuring cerebral blood flow (CBF) from near-infrared light intensity-basedautocorrelation obtained from photon detectors. While fNIRS gives us information about the oxy and deoxyhemoglobin concentrations it measures and tissue oxygen metabolism, fDCS gives us more local microvascular CBF information. According to studies, fDCS is a system that is three times more sensitive to brain-to-scalp sensitivity than fNIRS. When used together with fNIRS, it also enables the estimation of a neurologically critical biomarker such as the cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen (CMRO2). In this talk, the applications of fNIRS on various psychiatric and neurological populations and the fDCS system will be introduced in general, and functional neuroimaging and neurological applications of fDCS will be mentioned

15th International Conference on Security for Information Technology and Communications, SECITC 2022 -- 8 December 2022 through 9 December 2022 -- 294569FUTURE is a recently proposed, lightweight block cipher. It has an AES-like, SP-based, 10-round encryption function, where, unlike most other lightweight constructions, the diffusion layer is based on an MDS matrix. Despite its relative complexity, it has a remarkable hardware performance due to careful design decisions. In this paper, we conducted a MILP-based analysis of the cipher, where we incorporated exact probabilities rather than just the number of active S-boxes into the model. Through the MILP analysis, we were able to find differential and linear distinguishers for up to 5 rounds of FUTURE, extending the known distinguishers of the cipher by one round. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG

Speculative Architecture as a Critical and Creative Act in the Architectural Learning Environment

    No full text
In a world of continuous and rapid evolution, inevitably, the roles of the architectural design has moved beyond the boundaries and capabilities of the discipline to stay current. In the meantime, against numerous problems that the world is witnessing, the architectural design has been responsible for taking positions and actions, together with responding constantly changing conditions. So, in the first quarter of the 21st century, the emerging approaches that are aware of these roles and responsibilities of the discipline and push the limits of it have become essential for today's architectural practice and discourse. Speculative architecture is one of these approaches, which proposes a visionary understanding to explore the possibilities of architecture, paying regard today's heterogeneous environment. This design practise is based on a critical and creative act and an open-ended field of inquiry. Moreover, it particularly claims that architecture is not just an act of construction, but also has a role as a facilitator of thinking on the vision of the society and the world in the way of bringing alternative values, forms, and representations out. The thesis focuses on exploring and discussing the concept of speculative architecture, which presents potential by pushing the boundaries and capabilities of architectural design and uncovering the invisible qualities of architecture. It also asserts that the architectural learning environment is the most effective place to bring out this understanding, since it is a multi-layered and experimental research medium. The fact remains that architectural education has the chance to be free, and also the responsibility in both design and research to adapt today's social, physical, and digital conditions, unlike the profession. In this respect, the scope of the study is on comprehending speculative architecture and scrutinize the potentials and effects of it in the educational context. After conducting a comprehensive study to form a theorethical framework for speculative architecture, the thesis examines the speculative proposals, developed at the 2020-2021 Diploma Studio, MİM 402 Architectural Design Studio VIII, at TOBB, ETU, Department of Architecture, as the relevant cases, to identify the approach' contributions to the architectural learning environment. Embracing speculative architecture thinking, the Diploma Studio prepare an environment apt to enhance the architecture student's ability to think critically and encourages a designerly position by triggering the fundamentals of architectural thinking. So, the Diploma Studio outputs make able to obtain an in-depth evaluation of the potentials speculative architecture in the architectural learning environment presents.Sürekli ve hızlı bir evrim dünyasında, mimari tasarımın rolü de güncel kalabilmek adına kaçınılmaz olarak disiplinin sınırlarının ve yeteneklerinin ötesine geçmektedir.
