EFFECTS OF BROWNIAN MOTION ON NANO-FLUIDS MIXED CONVECTION HEAT TRANSFER
In many industrial applications, the generated heat must enter or leave the system by using a fluid.
Therefore, it can be said that the heat transfer phenomenon plays an important role in the industry.
Application Nanofluids are increasingly gaining a widely applications in industrial heat transfer and cooling in areas such as micro-channels and micro-motors.
In all such cases cooling is achieved by use micro-heat exchangers, which have limitation because of their small heat transfer surface.
In most of this applications cooling process is achieve by use of ordinary fluids such as air or liquid. The uses of such fluid with small surfaces are made more effective by employing the use of Nano technology.
Nanofluids provide for higher heat transfer ability than ordinary fluids
SMS-BASED AUTHENTICATION FRAMEWORK FOR A JOINT ACCOUNT ATM TRANSACTION.
FULL TEXTInformation and Communication Technology (ICT) has transformed the way people conduct business today. The banking industry has not been left behind in the utilization of ICT to provide alternative banking channels. Competition for customers and customer expectations have pushed various industry players to acclimatize emerging technologies, as well as innovative alternative service delivery channels, to gain a competitive advantage in the provision of financial services beyond the traditional bank branch channel. Automated Teller Machines have for a long time been used to provide an interactive access of information, between banks and clienteles in addition to financial services at anytime, anywhere without compromising on the confidentiality, integrity and availability of financial/Customer information. However, these channels are susceptible to the threats and risks associated with interbank networks, such as cybercrimes. Fraudsters and cyber criminals have taken advantage of the vulnerabilities in the interbank networks, to steal from unsuspecting clients. To minimize the risks of financial loss associated with ATM transactions, an enhanced authentication framework is inevitable and must be implemented to safeguard financial institutions’ reputation. This study, therefore, seeks to propose a strong authentication framework that combines the conventional two factor authentication with the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) mobile technology. The two factor authentication takes into account what the person knows (PIN) and what the person has (Card), with an SMS-based authentication framework for a joint account ATM transaction, for those joint account holders issued with an ATM card and a PIN. A prototype shall be developed to provide a simulation for the actual transactions and ascertain the strength of the proposed authentication framework
Information systems (IS) for competitive intelligence (CI) in small and medium enterprises
Information systems have emerged to be a powerful tool for driving competitive advantage for firms
Prior research has shown that very few SMEs use the analytical power of IS to drive their performance especially in developing economies
This has been blamed on the overall cost of adopting and maintaining information systems
The essence of CI is to use your competitors data to drive your market strateg
The historical irreconcilability of international law and politics and its implications for international criminal justice in Africa
This paper attempts an analysis of the history and purposes of international law, its problematic
interaction with international politics and the effects thereof on transitional justice and
international criminal law in Africa. At the heart of its thesis is the assertion that irreconcilable
results proceed from a paradoxical interaction that plays out thus: while politics begets law,
law’s role is to restrain political discretion. This paradox is then applied to the subject that is the
very core of the current international law regime, the aim to eliminate the role of war as a last
resort option in international politics and replace it with an obligation to seek judicial resolution
of disputes as the ultimate form of pacific international relations.
This paper is in two main parts. The first is an historical overview of the interaction of
international law and politics and how international law views its role in politically charged
controversies. The second part focuses on the most debated question in transitional justice:
international criminal justice. Having concluded that international law and politics remain
irreconcilable, this latter part questions whether African objections to head of state
accountability for mass atrocities and the setting up of parallel institutions constitute a
coherent application of the role of politics in international law. We also question whether
African attempts to inversely use politics to restrict law can succeed

EFFECT OF UNIONIZATION ON EMPLOYEES’ PERFORMANCE IN FAMILY OWNED BUSINESSES IN KENYA. A CASE STUDY OF STEEL STRUCTURES LIMITED, NAIROBI.
FULL TEXTThis study attempted to establish the effect of unionization on employees’ performance in family owned businesses in Kenya. The need to manage employee performance every day is the key to an effective performance management system. The researcher specifically sought to establish the effect of union mediated in compensation on performance of employees in family owned businesses; to determine the effect of union mediated motivation on performance of employees in family owned businesses; to examine the effect of union mediated equal treatment practices on performance of employees in family owned businesses; and to compare aggregate employee performance of unionized employees to nonunionized employees in family owned businesses. The research adopted a descriptive research design. The research study was carried out at Steel Structures Ltd. The study population comprised a total of 614 employees from various functions in SSL. Stratified random sampling technique was used to draw a sample size of 307 respondents. This study used descriptive statistics using statistical measures such as frequency and percentages. In using inferential statistics, the data was analyzed using correlation, which was vital in making sense of the data. Further regression analysis was used to test the relationships between variables. The analyzed data was presented in the form of tables and figures according to the research questions. The regression model further revealed that there was a significant relationship between union mediated motivation and employee performance (p=0.003); there was a significant relationship between Union mediated compensation and employee performance (p=0.012); there was a significant relationship between Union mediated equal treatment and employee performance (p=0.001). The study concluded that unionization aids in achieving better decisions in organization through the existence of trade unions and that existence of trade unions in organizations means that employees through their representatives are involved in many decisions that take place in the organization.
