DC-Link Voltage and Catenary Current Sensors Fault Reconstruction for Railway Traction Drives
Due to the importance of sensors in control strategy and safety, early detection of faults in sensors has become a key point to improve the availability of railway traction drives. The presented sensor fault reconstruction is based on sliding mode observers and equivalent injection signals, and it allows detecting defective sensors and isolating faults. Moreover, the severity of faults is provided. The proposed on-board fault reconstruction has been validated in a hardware-in-the-loop platform, composed of a real-time simulator and a commercial traction control unit for a tram. Low computational resources, robustness to measurement noise, and easiness to tune are the main requirements for industrial acceptance. As railway applications are not safety-critical systems, compared to aerospace applications, a fault evaluation procedure is proposed, since there is enough time to perform diagnostic tasks. This procedure analyses the fault reconstruction in the steady state, delaying the decision-making in some seconds, but minimising false detections
Analysis of axial crushing behaviour of unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester composites manufactured by out of die ultraviolet cured pultrusion
This paper analyses the axial crushing behaviour and flexural properties of novel unsaturated polyester (UP) and vinyl ester (VE) composites, manufactured by out of die ultraviolet (UV) cured pultrusion. The relation between axial crushing properties and microstructure have been analysed based on UV curing kinetics and physical characterisation. The results show that VE composites present higher specific energy absorption capability (SEA) than UP composites, about 18% higher, due to the higher fracture toughness of VE resin. However, the slow curing kinetics of VE resin implies an expansion of the profile at the exit of the die, and consequently a high presence of voids (7.4%). In contrast, UP resin presents faster curing kinetics and therefore, the presence of voids is lower (0.9%). This fact implies a reduction in flexural strength of VE composites, which is 17% lower than UP composites

For that, it is necessary to turn unitary VET
centres into multi-functional VET centres. The performance of the new non-traditional functions by the VET centres depends on the prevalent type of centre, and internal and external factors to them. The analysis of the case of Navarre allows us, on top of illustrating the previous points, to draw some orientations about how the transformation of the VET centre model should be undertaken.

Towards a model of quantitative personas
Personas is an extended tool in the area of product design and web design. In recent years new disciplines such as service design and strategic design have made the tools of Design Thinking acquire a new character. Thus, it is considered that Personas can help policy makers and managers of healthcare systems in the design of new social policies and new health services that improve the quality of life of an aging society. The diversity existing in society, makes necessary new tools that simplify and support decision making in quantitative data. In this study, a new model of Quantitative Personas is proposed. This tool will be based on existing statistics on dependence and on elderly people. First, different methods of statistical analysis that can help in the identification of population segments are analyzed. In this way, the most appropriate methods are selected for the scope of application. Finally, a method of creating profiles of Personas from these segments is proposed and preliminary profiles are generated. Profiles will be contrasted with professionals in politics and health in future works
Effect of alumina tri-hydrate filler on the mechanical and optical properties of flame-retardant ultraviolet cured vinyl ester composites
This research study is focused on the effect of alumina tri-hydrate (ATH) filler on the mechanical and optical properties of flame-retardant ultraviolet cured vinyl ester composites. In particular, vinyl ester formulations for out of die ultraviolet (UV) cured pultrusion has been analysed. Different matrix formulations varying the percentage of ATH (0 phr, 10 phr, 20 phr, 30 phr and 40 phr) have been compared. The through-thickness light transmission is critical in the studied process, in order to avoid the expansion at the exit of the die. Thus, the optical properties of the composite have been measured by a spectroradiometer during the curing process of the composites. The results show that the light transmission during the curing process is moderately affected (20%) by the presence of ATH up to 30 phr. In the case of 40 phr of ATH, the decrease of light transmission is more accused (35%). However, as the temperature of the composite increases as the ATH content increases, the curing degree is not negatively affected in these conditions. Regarding the mechanical properties, no significant differences of the interlaminar properties have been reported in the composites filled with ATH compared to the basic formulation (0 phr ATH)
Influence of Surface Finish and Porosity on the Fatigue behaviour of A356 Aluminium Casting Alloy
In casting parts, due to the manufacturing process, the presence of defects such as porosity, inclusions and oxide films is unavoidable. All these irregularities have a negative effect on the component performance. Several works have demonstrated that, among them, porosity is especially detrimental to the fatigue properties. As most fatigue failures nucleate at the surface of a material, casting defects at or near the surface and surface roughness become an extremely important factor in determining the fatigue strength of cast components.Very little research has been conducted into the influence of both surface quality and porosity on the fatigue behaviour of aluminium castings parts. In the present work, the effects of two different surface qualities (machined and as-cast) on fatigue behaviour of an A356 casting alloy were studied. The S-N curves obtained showed that the cast surface had higher fatigue strength than the machined one. The failure in cast specimens initiated predominantly from valleys of the rough surface near pores or inclusions. On the other hand, in machined surfaces, the cracks initiated directly from surface pores. Thus, the improvement in fatigue life was attributed to a longer crack “initiation” period
Personas for policy-making and healthcare design
The tool Personas has been used by different research teams to represent diversity among elderly people. This tool has been widely used in the discipline of product and service design and in recent years has spread to other fields such as strategic design and policy-making. However, these Personas lack accuracy when describing capabilities and are too general when describing psycho-social aspects of the person. As a result, the tool does not provide designers with the detailed information they need for each project. In the case of the policy-making strategies, the information gathered in the Quantitative Personas loses its validity with time. In this paper, we propose a new model for the creation of Quantitative Personas. Firstly, we make a review on available surveys regarding disability and aging by comparing them according to their objective, periodicity, the size of the sample, the accuracy and the range of variables that they cover. Secondly, we select variables from the surveys that better describe each aspect included in our model of Elderpersonas. Finally, we propose a model of layered Quantitative Elderpersonas that will be fed from those surveys

One of the ways to tell today is to rematerialize the language, to put in the foreground
the materiality, the rhythm and the sonority of the words. When what most exploits post-fordist
capitalism is our communicative and linguistic capacity, and in the middle of the virtual textualization of life, what to say, then, how to say, with what words and what bodies. Working from artistic
practice with the linguistic universe does not necessarily mean generating narrativity. Writing
about the ways of telling today does not mean discursivizing. This is what happens in some artistic pieces that go beyond the textual (the view) to move to the sound (listening) and to an orality
that puts the body listening
