Con una perspectiva comparatista, nos acercamos a la novela As Naus (Las naves), de António Lobo Antunes (1988), a partir de Tirano Banderas. Novela de tierra caliente, de Ramón del Valle-Inclán (1927).
Dos obras en las cuales el modo de representación es el grotesco esperpéntico, modo literario deconstructor de los poderes institucionalizados, de la historia oficial y de los héroes canonizados, mediante un proceso de heteromímesis que critica, en contrarrepresentación, los discursos fictivos o ficcionalizantes de los discursos oficiales.The grotesque, as a transtemporal category in its contemporary Iberian version of grotesque esperpento, is the main focus of this book. Through a comparatist perspective, we analyse the Portuguese novel As Naus (or The Return of the Caravels) by António Lobo Antunes (1988) in contrast and comparison to the Spanish novel Tirano Banderas by Ramón del Valle-Inclán (1927).
These two literary works embody the esperpéntico grotesque as a mode of representation which deconstructs institutionalized powers, official history and glorified heroes. In doing so, they build a process of hetero-mimesis and introduce a counter-representation of the pretentious or fictionalized narratives of the official historiographies. We analyse As Naus from expressionism and, more precisely, from the esperpéntico grotesque, with all the contextual and relational implications of this decision.
The grotesque is perceived not only as a transtemporal category but also as a transterritorial representation mode. Our intention is, above all, to question the concepts and commonplaces of Literary Studies, taking into account our research and teaching experiences. In this pursuit, we attempt to grasp key formative moments of the western Poetics to better understand the place of grotesque literary representation in the hierarchy of representation modes in which solemn, realistic or epic modes have been prevalent until the contemporary era.
Throughout this progressive deconstruction and paradigm shift, we always take philosophy into consideration, from Aristotle to Nietzsche, and the relationship between eras such as the Baroque and the Decadence-Symbolisms of the nineteenth century. Along the entirety of this path of gradual nihilification through grotesque artistic representation, metaphor clearly takes a leading role. The philosophical reflection stemming from actual scientific practice has been proven to have the potential to inform ethical thinking and political practice with a more robust foundation than those not necessarily linked to scientific developments.
This is not, of course, to argue for an alleged preeminence of science over speculative philosophical reflection, nor that scientific practices should remain untouched by science-informed philosophy.
On the contrary, history and anthropology of science function as antidotes to similar unfounded views. Recent scientific and technological discoveries require a stronger role for philosophy in public and institutional discussions.
Their practical consequences for humans and non-humans cannot be ignored.

No full textStesicoro Ὁμηρικώτατος e i frammenti della “Gerioneide” è un’edizione commentata comprensiva di introduzione, nota critica, testo critico e traduzione, note di commento e index locorum.
Il volume prende le mosse dai contributi con cui, fra il 2010 e il 2015, è culminata la ‘rinascenza stesicorea’ iniziata negli anni Sessanta del Novecento: poggiando sulle puntualizzazioni ecdotiche e sulle linee esegetiche più recenti, questo studio si propone di ripensare il rapporto del poemetto lirico con il presunto modello omerico, e di indagare la ricezione stesicorea nell’Atene dei Filaidi prima, sulla scena teatrale del V secolo e nelle riprese ellenistiche e virgiliane poi.

The Introduction clarifies the methodological assumption on which the research is based: this study aims to rethink the relationship of the lyric poet with the presumed Homeric model, and to investigate the Stesichorean reception in Athens first under the Philaids, then in classical theatre and in Hellenistic and Virgilian poetry.
The Critical Note explains the differences from the reference edition by Davies and Finglass under three different points of view: the distinction between fragmenta and fragmenta incertae sedis; the order of the reasonably placeable fragments; some specific textual choices. The Critical Text, with apparatus and translation, features fragments 8b F. (= S17), 9 F. (= 184 PMGF), 10 F. (= S8), 7 F. (= S16a), 13 F. (= S10), 17 F. (= S13), 15 F. (= S11 + S31), 18 F. (= S14), 19 F. (= S15 + S21) and 8a F. (= S17) under the heading Fragmenta, and fr. 5 F. (= S87), 6 F. (= S86), 21 F. (= S85), 22a F. (= S19) and 22b F. under the heading Fragmenta incertae sedis.
The Commentary is divided into 72 notes, grouped fragment by fragment: the first note for each fragment discusses its placement within the poem, its content and its characters; the following ones deal with its main textual and exegetical problems. Cross references within the notes, or between a given note and the Introduction, allow a more unitarian understanding of recurrent themes such as Stesichorus’ relation with Homer, tragedy and Hellenistic poetry, the Stesichorean tendency to redundare and effundi, the personal reworking on Homeric diction and the possible existence of an idiomatic formularity. The book is completed by a Bibliography of critical editions, commented editions and translations and of other studies, and by an Index locorum.

Un monde partagé : la Sicile du premier siècle av. J.-C. entre Diodore et Cicéron
No full textÀ quelques années de distance, deux écrivains, Cicéron et Diodore, s’intéressent à la Sicile. Dans une République agonisante, l’un veut en faire le miroir d’une très ancienne civilisation, le paradigme d’une cohabitation paisible entre les peuples et l’articulation nécessaire entre la Grèce et Rome ; l’autre démontre en elle la nécessité d’une gestion bienveillante des provinces romaines, sources pour la Ville d’un développement matériel et culturel.
Le regard grec et le regard romain, celui de l’historien et celui de l’homme politique convergent sur un même objet dont ils offrent des images tantôt concordantes, tantôt discordantes, chacun adoptant une perspective commandée par son objectif littéraire et par sa vision de l’avenir de la Méditerranée.

Sottocollana: Filologia e letteratura 6.This volume is the result of a scientific collaboration between the research centres of the Maison Méditerranéenne des Sciences de l’Homme in Aix-en-Provence and the Department of Humanities at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, whose study interests converged in a joint experimental project.
A detailed comparison between Cicero and Diodorus has never been proposed until now, probably because of the obvious disparity between their works. There is, on the one hand, an illustrious orator at the centre of the political and cultural experience of Rome, and on the other hand, a minor Greek historian whose intellectual profile has only recently been enhanced by critics. Yet, they have quite a lot in common: they both lived in the turbulent late Republican age, both came from wealthy families without any political role; both received rhetorical training, travelled and frequented cultured circles. The area where the comparison between the two authors is most instructive is undoubtedly Sicily, the homeland of Diodorus and the scene of the beginnings of Cicero’s political career. The two writers shared a deep personal knowledge of the island: Sicily is constantly present in Diodorus’ Bibliotheca and is the focus of the judicial and political case exposed in the Verrinae. Aspects of the island’s history and culture emerging from the work of each author have already been extensively considered.
This study, however, aims to offer a more analytical comparison of the representation of Sicily in both works, examining how the same geographical, historical and religious information, originating from a shared cultural background and from personal knowledge, is reinterpreted by the two authors according to their different rhetorical and intellectual projects.
We defined four major categories of information relating to the island: geography, history of great men, religious traditions and practices, artistic and monumental heritage. For each of these categories, we conducted parallel analyses on each work, focusing on the selection of data, the way they were presented and their function in the overall economy of Diodorus’ and Cicero’s works.
These parallel analyses highlight similarities and dissimilarities between the two authors: the affinities show the existence of a codified representation of Sicily, its history and its specificity in the context of the first century BC; the discrepancies result both from the divergences in method and aims of the two authors and, more deeply, from their differences in terms of personal, cultural and linguistic backgrounds and perspectives.
