Self-Awareness in Tibetan Buddhism. The Philosophical Relevance of Rang rig and Its Contribution to the Contemporary Debates on the Nature of Consciousness
No full textThis book, based on the Author’s doctoral dissertation, examines the concept of self-awareness (SKT svasaṃvedana; TIB rang rig) in the Indo-Tibetan Buddhist tradition, where it is understood as the mind’s inherent ability to know itself. It analyzes traditional interpretations of this concept and concludes by engaging with contemporary debates on the philosophy of mind, aiming to demonstrate how Buddhist thought can contribute to modern discussions on the nature of consciousness.
The volume begins by tracing the origins of svasaṃvedana within the Indian Buddhist context, exploring its development from early formulations to the sophisticated epistemological frameworks of Dignāga and his successors. This historical overview lays the groundwork for the second part of the book, which investigates Tibetan perspectives on rang rig and analyzes their epistemological, ontological, and soteriological dimensions.
Key themes include the interplay between the intentionality and luminosity of consciousness, as well as its connection with the doctrine of the two truths.
The final section bridges these Buddhist perspectives with contemporary philosophical discussions, exploring how the former can deepen and enrich modern debates on issues such as the conditions for subjective experience, the so-called ‘hard problem of consciousness’, and the relationship between the mind and its objects.
By focusing on the reflexivity of the mind, the book examines a crucial yet underexplored theme in Buddhist philosophical discourse. At the same time, it underscores the relevance of these perspectives for contemporary thought, fostering intercultural dialogue on fundamental questions within the broader field of philosophical inquiry.This volume has been published with the support of the Centro di Ricerca Marco Polo – Centre for Global Europe-Asia Connections

No full textIl volume presenta uno studio dell’edilizia Kura-Araxes nel Caucaso Meridionale tra la seconda metà del quarto e la prima metà del terzo millennio a.C.
Attraverso un’indagine condotta su quasi cinquanta insediamenti con più di trecento strutture negli attuali stati di Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Naxçivan e Turchia è stato possibile mettere a fuoco le proprietà edilizie e le tecniche di costruzione adottate per circa mille anni dalle comunità Kura-Araxes.
Il quadro così delineato è caratterizzato da un’ampia eterogeneità a livello formale, all’interno della quale emergono tuttavia tradizioni differenziate su scala regionale.

Sottocollana: Archeologia 10.This volume presents a study of Kura-Araxes architecture in the Southern Caucasus, the cradle of the homonymous cultural phenomenon. Kura-Araxes communities, who emerged around the mid-fourth millennium BCE in the region, had a lasting impact and spread across a wide territory from northwestern Iran to eastern Anatolia, reaching the Levantine coast. A detailed analysis conducted over almost fifty settlements with more than three-hundred structures in the present states of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran and Turkey focused on building features and building techniques adopted by these communities for one thousand years.
The study highlighted a very heterogeneous situation, characterised by the use of different building materials, building plans and building dimensions – as well as construction techniques – throughout the Southern Caucasus. In spite of these various ‘formal’ aspects, Kura-Araxes buildings share a common use of the internal space, essentially composed of one or, more rarely, two/three rooms. Internal installations, not homogeneously distributed, usually consist of hearths and benches.
Almost all the analysed structures are residential units, with a few possible exceptions represented by ‘shrines’, platforms, ‘wall terraces’ and fortifications.
Despite the great heterogeneity of the Kura-Araxes buildings, the study verified the presence of common and persistent architectural traditions in four geographical regions, namely the Kura valley, the Georgian-Armenian highlands, the Kvemo-Kartli mountains and the Araxes valley.

The Poetry Research of J.V. Foix (1918-1985). Knowledge Through Likenesses in the Avant-Garde
No full textThis book offers a comprehensive interpretation of the literary and journalistic works of the poet J.V. Foix (1893-1987), one of the most original voices of the Iberian avant-gardes, focusing on his poetics and communication of knowledge.
Early in his life, this active arbiter of taste and experimental writer of prose poems described his endeavor as a ‘poetry research’. He sought independence from all isms and wrote classicizing sonnets, oneiric oneiric poems, and fictional chronicles.
He despised bourgeois art and rejected art’s subjection to passing aesthetic and political trends.
His poetic and ethical commitment was to ‘living reality’, which he claimed to share with artists of all eras and with the best poets of his time.
The monograph critically assesses Foix’s articulation of a realist poetology.
This clarifies his position in the fragmentary panorama of the avant-garde and revises traditional surrealist readings of his works.
Rather than establishing a separate poetic reality accessible via dualistic or idealistic modes of thought, his obscure metaphors and inconclusive narrations stage the impossibility of such a detachment. Instead, poetic objects, consistently considered as ‘likenesses’, are identified as constituent elements of a practice of accumulation of fragments.
These likenesses lead him – and us – to an ever-renewing adventure toward the encounter with the common and the unbelievable alike. Foix’s research, in prose, verse, and essay, is a tireless exercise in the embracement of actual plurality with aesthetic pluralism, which informs his views on culture, politics, and religion.
The book appeals to both students and researchers of the European avant-gardes, and especially to literary critics and aesthetics scholars interested in modern, artistic and essayistic poetics of knowledge

No full textCompared to all other Bronze Age Mediterranean regions, Cyprus is the island that established the closest contacts with the Aegean, and the interaction between Cyprus and the Aegean has therefore clearly been a subject of intense discussion.
Assuming that Bronze Age trade was not unidirectional, this book provides a review of the available archaeological data from the third millennium BC to ca 1200 BC from both the Aegean and Cypriot perspectives. The relevant finds from the Aegean regions and Cyprus are considered here in order to discuss the dynamics of contacts between the two areas leading up to the period around 1200 BC when dramatic changes occurred in their relationships

Le poesie trattano del Genocidio armeno del 1915, dei viaggi dell’autore in Armenia, della società e della politica armena, delle guerre del Nagorno Karabakh degli anni Novanta e del 2020. Affrontano anche questioni cruciali come l’identità della diaspora, la negazione del Genocidio, le sfide esistenziali che gli armeni continuano ad affrontare, sia in Armenia che nella diaspora.

The PHAIDRA Repository as a Research Support Tool for the Dissemination of Knowledge and Information on Migrations: The Outcomes of the Milagro Project
No full textLa presentazione mette in evidenza gli sforzi della Biblioteca Universitaria “Svetozar Marković” di Belgrado, in quanto biblioteca centrale dell’Università di Belgrado, nel collegare e integrare le attività del progetto europeo Milagro, finanziato dall’UE nell’ambito del programma CERV, con la sua lunga esperienza nell’utilizzo del repository PHAIDRA. In questo modo, la Biblioteca ha superato il suo tradizionale ruolo di supporto al lavoro accademico e di ricerca dell’Università, entrando nel campo dell’affrontare questioni concrete che coinvolgono cittadini e persone in difficoltà.
Il Progetto Milagro (MIgrants and Local communities Actively GROwing together for inclusive societies) mira a contribuire alla sensibilizzazione sul tema della migrazione attraverso diverse attività progettuali e, al tempo stesso, a favorire la cooperazione e la comprensione reciproca tra le comunità migranti e quelle locali tramite lo scambio di esperienze. In collaborazione con partner provenienti dall’Italia (NACU, SIS – Siena) e dai Paesi Bassi (UCU – Utrecht), la Biblioteca ha adattato le proprie attività quotidiane — incluse varie forme di educazione, laboratori e corsi di formazione — a un nuovo gruppo target, ampliando così la propria esperienza e i propri approcci.
Tutte le attività educative del Progetto Milagro acquisiscono una nuova e fondamentale dimensione: l’applicazione pratica. Esse sono strettamente legate alle sfide quotidiane affrontate dalla popolazione migrante, come il riconoscimento della discriminazione, la somministrazione del primo soccorso o l’acquisizione di competenze informatiche di base. Nell’ambito del progetto è stato creato un sito web Osservatorio, con una mappa interattiva come elemento principale. Sebbene venga denominato repository, si tratta principalmente di uno strumento visivo per individuare le organizzazioni della società civile che forniscono assistenza ai migranti.
In questo contesto, è emersa chiaramente l’importanza di istituire un nuovo sistema PHAIDRA Milagro — sia come strumento di supporto alla ricerca, sia come piattaforma di scienza aperta — che apportasse un reale valore aggiunto al progetto, in particolare grazie all’interoperabilità. PHAIDRA Milagro funziona come un repository tematico pienamente sviluppato che raccoglie non solo articoli scientifici, ma anche relazioni, dati e risorse elettroniche sul tema della migrazione. Questi materiali possono essere conservati a lungo termine, descritti mediante un insieme standardizzato di metadati e condivisi con altri sistemi.
In questo modo, PHAIDRA Milagro combina le capacità di ricerca con questioni civiche urgenti, favorendo il miglioramento reciproco e connessioni più solide. In definitiva, attraverso queste attività, la Biblioteca — esplorando nuove aree tematiche — si arricchisce di nuove esperienze e amplia le proprie funzioni.The presentation highlights the efforts of the University Library “Svetozar Marković” in Belgrade, as the central library of the University of Belgrade, in connecting and integrating the activities of the EU-funded project Milagro, within the framework of the CERV program, with its long-standing experience in using the PHAIDRA repository. In this way, the Library has moved beyond its traditional role of supporting academic and research work at the University and has stepped into the field of addressing concrete issues faced by citizens and individuals in need.
The Milagro Project (MIgrants and Local communities Actively GROwing together for inclusive societies) aims to contribute to raising awareness of the state of migration through various project tasks, and, at the same time, to enable cooperation and mutual understanding between migrant and local communities through the exchange of experiences. Together with partners from Italy (NACU, SIS – Siena) and the Netherlands (UCU – Utrecht), the Library has adapted its daily activities—including various forms of education, workshops, and training—to a new target group, thereby expanding its experience and approaches.
All educational activities within the Milagro Project gain a new and essential dimension: practical application. They are closely linked to the everyday challenges of the migrant population, such as recognizing discrimination, providing first aid, or acquiring basic computer skills. As part of the project, an Observatory website was established, with the interactive map as a core component. Though it is named a repository, it is mainly a visual tool for locating civil society organizations that provide assistance to migrants.
Within this context, it became evident that establishing a new PHAIDRA Milagro system—both as a research support tool and as an open science platform—would bring genuine added value to the project, in particular through interoperability. PHAIDRA Milagro functions as a fully developed thematic repository that gathers not only scientific papers, but also reports, data, and electronic resources on the topic of migration. These materials can be preserved long-term, described using a standardized set of metadata, and shared with other systems.
In this way, PHAIDRA Milagro combines research capacities with pressing civic issues, enabling mutual improvement and stronger connections. No full textThis special issue of Lagoonscapes gathers pedagogical reflections, teaching concepts, and experiments developed by university teachers across Europe who work in conversation with the field of the Environmental Humanities. Amidst the escalating climate crisis, accelerated by a resurgence of right-wing nationalisms and ongoing systems of environmental injustice, learning how to teach (and learn) with, through, and about socio-ecological precarity, interdependencies, and enmeshment is a crucial and increasingly urgent task that requires an expansion of traditional methodologies and subject matters. With an emphasis on place-based, creative, and collaborative approaches to pedagogy, this collection features contributions from the UK, Ireland, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Italy, Poland, Sweden, and Belgium that foreground interdisciplinary dialogues – from literary and cultural studies, to visual and conceptual art, maritime history, ethnography, and (coastal) archaeology. Committed to an understanding of Environmental Humanities teaching as education for change, many contributions take the learning process beyond customary classroom settings and foster conversations between critical EH theory and embodied, situated experience.
