Minorkomplikationen nach perkutanem versus offen-chirurgischem Zugang bei endovaskulärer Aortenreparatur
Der für eine endovaskuläre Aortenreparatur benötigte arterielle Gefäßzugang in der Leiste kann diverse Komplikationen verursachen, welche die Lebensqualität der Patienten potentiell stark beeinträchtigen. Zur Erweiterung der Datenlage wurden die offen-chirurgische und die perkutane Zugangstechnik hinsichtlich ihrer Minorkomplikationen verglichen. In die vorliegende Kohortenstudie konnten 44 perkutane und 215 offen-chirurgische Zugänge eingeschlossen werden. Die primären Endpunkte umfassten konservativ behandelbare Komplikationen während des postoperativen Krankenhausaufenthalts und des Follow-Ups. Zugangsassoziierte Minorkomplikationen konnten postoperativ in 11,4% (perkutan) versus 9% (offen-chirurgisch) und poststationär in 10% vs. 13,7% der Fälle beobachtet werden. Konservativ therapierbare Nachblutungen traten nach perkutanem Zugang signifikant häufiger auf. Die perkutane Technik stellt eine sichere Alternative zum offen-chirurgischen Zugang für eine Aortenreparatur dar
A haplotype-resolved pangenome of the barley wild relative Hordeum bulbosum
Wild plants can contribute valuable genes to their domesticated relatives1. Fertility barriers and a lack of genomic resources have hindered the effective use of crop–wild introgressions. Decades of research into barley’s closest wild relative, Hordeum bulbosum, a grass native to the Mediterranean basin and Western Asia, have yet to manifest themselves in the release of a cultivar bearing alien genes2. Here we construct a pangenome of bulbous barley comprising 10 phased genome sequence assemblies amounting to 32 distinct haplotypes. Autotetraploid cytotypes, among which the donors of resistance-conferring introgressions are found, arose at least twice, and are connected among each other and to diploid forms through gene flow. The differential amplification of transposable elements after barley and H. bulbosum diverged from each other is responsible for genome size differences between them. We illustrate the translational value of our resource by mapping non-host resistance to a viral pathogen to a structurally diverse multigene cluster that has been implicated in diverse immune responses in wheat and barley

How meristems shape plant architecture in cereals : Cereal Stem Cell Systems (CSCS) Consortium
Meristems are major determinants of plant architecture, diversification, and acclimation to environmental stresses. Moreover, meristems play also a major role during crop domestication and are fundamentally important for the productivity of crop plants as they directly determine biomass and grain yield. While vegetative meristems shape the basic plant body plan and produce all above- and below-ground parts of plants, some vegetative meristems transit to reproductive meristems, forming sexual organs and germ cells. Most knowledge about plant meristems was generated using the model plant Arabidopsis. Compared with Arabidopsis, architecture of grass or cereals, including crops like maize, wheat, barley, rice and sorghum, is more complex: cereals produce additional organs like a coleoptile, seminal roots originating from the scutellar nodes in the embryo and shoot-borne crown roots as well as highly complex inflorescence meristems with meristem types absent in eudicots. Moreover, studies in cereals indicated that paradigms based on studies using Arabidopsis are not universally applicable. This review therefore aims to provide a comprehensive overview about the initiation, establishment, maintenance, and function of the various cereal meristems and their stem cell niches that shape our most important crop plants. Stem cell–like systems involved in leaf pattering and germline formation are also considered. The focus is also on the significant progress that has been made recently using novel tools to elucidate gene regulatory networks underlying the development and function of the various cereal meristems
