Bifurcation for a class of indefinite elliptic systems by comparison theory for the spectral flow via an index theorem

    No full text
We consider families of strongly indefinite systems of elliptic PDE and investigate bifurcation from a trivial branch of solutions by using the spectral flow. The novelty in our approach is a refined way to apply a comparison principle which is based on an index theorem for a certain class of Fredholm operators that is of independent interest. Finally, we use our findings for a bifurcation problem on shrinking domains that originates from works of Morse and Smale

Essays on corporate social responsibility (CSR) as risk management strategy

    No full text
This dissertation examines when, how, and why Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) functions as a strategic lever for firm-level risk management. Across three original essays—an integrative bibliometric review and two empirical studies—I show that stakeholder-centered strategies, operationalized through CSR, can both mitigate and, when misaligned, amplify material risks. Essay 1 highlights a risk-based perspective, reframing the CSR–risk nexus and pointing to neglected firm–government interactions. Essay 2 theorizes and tests a CSR–Fraud–Enforcement triad: CSR’s moral ethos lowers fraud risk yet increases regulators’ capacity to sanction when wrongdoing occurs. Essay 3 shows that national institutions, firm-specific conditions, and stakeholder priorities jointly shape market risk premiums, with outcomes hinging on “interactive-style strategic fit”. Findings guide embedding risk-sensitive CSR to create long-term value and inform more effective regulatory design

AI-driven research in the recruitment and selection process : application of an AI taxonomy with a systematic literature review

    No full text
A review of the literature on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the recruitment and selection process (RSP) was conducted, but no relevant studies were identified. While several reviews have focussed on AI in human resource management in general, none of these have examined the RSP in detail or employed an AI taxonomy for clustering. Consequently, we applied an AI taxonomy identified in the literature with the aim to identify the stages of the RSP in the focus of research and the algorithms mostly used. We conducted a systematic literature review underpinned by a concept matrix, complemented by a computational literature review (CLR), that employed natural language processing (NLP). The initial 4,579 studies were sourced from three databases and narrowed down to a total of 502. Our major findings indicate that the majority of studies were categorised under the stages “assessment & selection” and “processing incoming applications” in the RSP. The predominant algorithms in use pertain to the field of NLP and machine learning. The CLR emphasised the significance of ethics in AI research. While our study has expanded the general AI taxonomy by incorporating an ethical perspective and is one of the studies with the most articles used to reflect this topic, it is solely focussing on describing the past. Nevertheless, this article helps to align research on exploring and testing alternative approaches with those most frequently used

Conditions for culturally responsive teaching among in-service and pre-service teachters

    No full text
With growing cultural diversity in German schools, teachers face rising demands to meet all students’ needs. Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) provides a framework to investigate intraindividual processes of pre-service and in-service teachers. Key components are critical reflection, diversity-related attitudes and beliefs, and CRT self-efficacy. This dissertation investigates how contextual conditions, and psychological interventions relate to these components. Three studies were conducted: 1) a quantitative study on contextual conditions, diversity-related attitudes, and CRT efficacy among in-service teachers; 2) a qualitative, quasi-experimental study on critical reflection, cultural diversity beliefs, and CRT efficacy among pre-service teachers; 3) a qualitative study using grounded theory on intraindividual processes of White pre-service teachers’ cultural diversity beliefs. Findings highlight school climate, school composition, and the Identity Project as conditions for CRT

Novel selective indole based histone deacetylase 10 inhibitors as anticancer therapeutics

    No full text
Histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors represent a promising class of anti-cancer agents that play a key role in both epigenetic and non-epigenetic regulation, leading to cancer cell death, apoptosis, and cell cycle arrest. This study synthesized novel bicyclic hydroxamic acid derivatives and evaluated their inhibitory and selectivity activity against class I and IIb HDACs. Our findings demonstrate that Compound 2e specifically inhibits HDAC10 with high selectivity over HDAC6, while shows no significant impact on class I HDACs. Compound 2a exhibited the most potant inhibitory activity against HDAC10, with IC50 0.41 ± 0.02 nM. In contrast, Compound 2f revealed a preference toward HDAC6, with an IC50 value of 2.5 ± 0.3 nM. Compounds 2c and 2d demonstrated high selectivity toward class IIb over class I HDACs. Docking and molecular dynamics studies revealed that compound 2a fits well into the active site of HDAC10, forming stable and strong interactions with key residues F204, D94, W205, and E274 in HDAC10. In addition, we assessed the anti-proliferative activity these compounds against a panel of four human solid tumor cell lines. To evaluate their selectivity, non-cancerous kidney cell lines (LLC-PK1 and VERO) were employed to determine the effects of these compounds on normal cell proliferation
