Addressing individual needs in mindful eating:a latent profile analysis and exploration of demographics and social-cognitive beliefs
INTRODUCTION: To promote mindful eating it may be relevant to take different eating profiles into account. This prospective study aimed to (i) identify the existence of potential respondent subgroups regarding mindful eating and (ii) compare these profiles on socio-demographic characteristics and social-cognitive beliefs about mindful eating using the I-Change Model (ICM).METHODS: Dutch adults (M age = 52.6; 53% male) responded to an online survey at baseline ( N = 615) and 3-months ( n = 513) follow-up asking about social-cognitive beliefs about practicing mindful eating based on the ICM. Following a latent profile analysis of mindful eating facets, profiles at baseline were compared on social-cognitive beliefs at follow-up using a MANOVA with Tukey-adjusted post-hoc tests. RESULTS: Three profiles were identified (1. low awareness, high acceptance; 2. high awareness, low acceptance; 3. moderate awareness, moderate acceptance). These profiles significantly differed in their demographics and social-cognitive beliefs about mindful eating (e.g., knowledge, perceived pros and cons, self-efficacy, intention and planning to adopt mindful eating).DISCUSSION: Findings suggest the limitations of a one-size-fits-all approach to promoting mindful eating. Interventions may need to consider different recruitment and targeted strategies based on socio-demographic characteristics and social-cognitive beliefs to ensure different groups of individuals are represented in and can benefit from interventions in a safe and accessible way.</p

Career coaching to support medical student career decision-making:a randomized controlled trial
This study investigated whether career coaching can reduce medical students' career decision-making stress through clarifying students' self-concept, increasing career decision self-efficacy, and lowering perceived time pressure to make a career decision. We evaluated the effectiveness of a coaching intervention (including five individual coaching sessions over eight months) using a randomized-waitlist controlled trial design. Participating medical master's students completed a first survey (T1). The intervention condition (n = 94) started the coaching program right away. The waitlist-control condition (n = 130) started after 8.5 months. Participants in the intervention condition completed a second (T2) survey three weeks after their last coaching session. Participants in the waitlist-control condition received the second survey 8.5 months after registration. Data were analyzed using multilevel path modelling. The total effect of coaching on career decision-making stress was significantly negative (-0.17; 95% CI [-0.31, -0.06]), reflecting a small to moderate effect size. This total effect was partially mediated (i.e., explained) by career decision self-efficacy (-0.02; 95% CI [-0.06, -0.00]). Exploratory analyses suggested that coaching only clarified the self-concept of students with a relatively negative coaching attitude at T1. Moreover, coaching resulted in more changes in career choices and an increase in students' career choice certainty. This study demonstrates that coaching is effective in reducing medical students' career decision-making stress and increasing their career decision self-efficacy and career choice certainty. High-quality career decision-making is important because it is associated with higher job satisfaction, well-being, and performance. Medical schools may consider providing coaching to students to support their career decision-making.</p
Data protection after death
Air pollution exposure and incidence of cardiometabolic diseases:Exploring the modifying role of dietary antioxidant intake in adults
While the antioxidative potential of certain vitamins and minerals in cardio-protection has garnered increasing interest, their ability to attenuate associations between air pollution exposure and cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs) remains unexplored. This study examined the associations of air pollution (particulate matter including ultrafine particles (UFP), and nitrogen oxides, including NO2 and NOx) and six dietary antioxidants with incident non-fatal CMDs in 30,519 EPIC-NL study participants. Data on CMD incidence (total cardiovascular disease (CVD), acute myocardial infarction (AMI), coronary heart disease (CHD) and heart failure (HF)) and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) diagnoses were obtained from medical registries. Annual average ambient concentrations of air pollutants at the participants’ baseline residential addresses were predicted using land use regression models. Dietary intake of antioxidants was assessed via a food frequency questionnaire. Multivariable Cox regression models were used to explore associations. Exposures to NO2 and UFP were associated with elevated HF risk (Hazard Ratio (HR) (95 % CI): 1.24 (1.00, 1.54) and 1.69 (1.04, 2.76), respectively). Higher beta-carotene intake was associated with reduced risk of total CVD and CHD incidence (HR (95 % CI): 0.94 (0.89, 0.99) and 0.92 (0.84, 0.99), respectively), whereas, in general, antioxidant intake was positively associated with incident T2DM. Interaction analyses indicated some variability in CMD risk by antioxidant intake, but none of these interactions remained significant after correcting for multiple comparisons. These findings indicate that the associations of air pollution with incident CMD do not differ by dietary antioxidant intake.</p
