No full textThis introductory chapter contextualises and reflects critically on theemerging trends characterising the evolving social role advocated by museums insociety, with an emphasis on museum experiences as vehicles for change or trans-formation. It looks at transformation by adopting a systemic perspective, anchoredin the transformative potential of the experiences that museums offer to visitors, andthen zooming out to turn attention towards the way recent changes in the socio-political and cultural context reverberated in structural and functional changes insidethe museum and connected institutions and communities. The chapter is structuredalong a series of questions, starting by unpacking a rationale for transformativeexperiences and why they are worthy of attention at this particular moment (Why),then focusing on what we mean by transformative experiences in the context ofmuseums (What), on particularities of design approaches and supporting technolo-gies for crafting transformative experiences (How), and closing with reflections onthe meaning and significance of it all, for the museum, the visitor, diverse audiencegroups and society as a whole (For whom and For what). The final part of the Intro-duction then reviews these themes once again, narrating how they are woven in thebook narrative

Exploring the transformational role of regular nature-based adventure activity engagement in mental health and long-term eudaimonic well-being.
Get PDFThis article investigates the transformative impacts of regular nature-based adventure activity engagement and its long-lasting effects on eudaimonic well-being (EWB), specifically mental health. Although extant research highlights a wide range of well-being and mental health benefits from participation in such pursuits, less is known about experienced outdoor adventure enthusiasts for whom adventure is a fundamental and transformational part of their lives. The study builds on an existing conceptual framework that synthesizes pertinent research concepts on nature-based activity engagement and subjective well-being benefits. It presents key findings from 40 semi-structured in-depth online interviews with respondents from the UK, Germany, and Serbia. Interview data were collated and analyzed using a thematic framework approach. The findings highlight the importance of outdoor adventure activity engagement for respondents’ mental and physical health and long-term well-being. Regular activity participation can be transformational in reducing feelings of ill-being and enhancing EWB. It can improve self-efficacy and identity development and promote the fulfilment of psychological needs, facilitated by key transformational catalyzers. Continually entering a liminal state, experiencing emotions, and overcoming challenges and risks during engagement are crucial to “successful” long-lasting transformation. Further research should continue to explore adventure’s transformational and EWB benefits to develop long-term data.</p

Get PDFHospitality organizations are particularly vulnerable to changes in demand caused by disruptive events such as natural catastrophes, geopolitical events, and pandemic diseases. Nevertheless, the development of organizational resilience by hospitality organizations has remained under-explored. The ongoing digitalization trend provides a unique opportunity for hospitality organizations to combine the adoption of digitalization tools with the development of data analytic capability as a way to anticipate disruptive events and mitigate their impact on operations and performance. Through a cross-sectional survey design and using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling, the present study demonstrates that hospitality organizations can improve their organizational resilience by developing data analytic capability. This can be achieved by (1) investing in the digital tools and IT infrastructure that allows them to sense their environment and (2) adapting their organizational infrastructure to quickly be able to use this information in decision-making. A limitation of the study lies in the use of cross-sectional data which limits temporal causality inferences.<br/
