Reliability investigation of the armoured personnel carrier M113.
No full textThe relevance of the bachelor’s thesis is based on active participation of Lithuanian army in various international military exercises, where the reliability of machinery is one of the most important factors. The transportation of the soldiers as well as completion of variety of task is ensured by proper working technical equipment. The most intensively used transporter is armor-clad M113, however the last time the transporters where deliverer to combat units where in 2006 and, therefore, exploited in Lithuanian climate for more then 10 years in addition to being 30 years old. Taking into an account the importance of this armor-clad in the military, armor-clads and their failures were selected as the object of the thesis, while the main goal is to evaluate the index of reliability and interval of technical maintenance
Research on the suitability of 155 mm ammunition for self-propelled howitzers PzH2000.
No full textThe aim of this research is to evaluate, from the theoretical and practical points of view, the main factors which influence the choice of 155 mm ammunition for the self-propelled howitzers PzH2000 used by the Lithuanian military. Another aim is to choose the combat shell which best suits the determined criteria from a list of nine possible options based on the date received. For this purpose, the processes and factors which influenced the choice of the 155 mm combat shells for the artillery systems PzH2000 of the Lithuanian military were analysed. The objectives of the work were set to analyse the acquisition process of the artillery ammunition, to establish the criteria which help to determine the shells suitable for the self-propelled howitzers PzH2000 and to choose the shells according to the set criteria. With reference to the method of determining the evaluation criteria of the economically most advantageous proposal, the choice of the optimal combat shell for the Lithuanian Defence system is substantiated
Information warfare: evaluation of servicemen’s resilience.
No full textWith the development of information technologies and their growing importance in our everyday life methods of warfare have also changed and new threats to the national security have appeared. One of the new warfare methods is the information warfare. Back in 2014 State Security Department (later - SSD) prepared an evaluation of menaces to the national security in which information warfare is mentioned as one of the threats to the national security. According to SSD, when a geopolitical situation in the world changed (čia įdėčiau laiką/paaiškinčiau aplinkybes- kada/dėl ko pasikeitė (tarkim "in (data)" arba "due to (įvykis dėl ko pasikeitė) ) the tension between Russia and the Western European countries (and the USA) has risen. As a result of Lithuania's unfavorable position towards Russia Lithuania has appeared under the target of Russia's information operations. Russian information policy aims to spread disinformation, create a bad international image of Lithuania, conscript Lithuanian military & censor the membership of the European Union and NATO (čia gramatiškai teisinga, bet ką tu nori tuo pasakyti? Conscript yra "prievarta įtraukti/pašaukti į armiją" ir censor yra cenzūruoti, tad nežinau, ar čia tinkami veiksmažodžiai šiose vietose). Therefore, in order to withstand against such information operations, it becomes very important to increase the immunity of people to information operations. The novelty of selected theme highlights that there is a lack of detailed academic analysis of the expression of information warfare in Lithuanian military and its influence to troops' immunity to it

The purpose of this Bachelor's thesis is to analyze the newly created “Žemaitija” Motorized Infantry Brigade, define and propose optimum number of necessary equipment recovery teams, maintenance and repair facilities (mobile workshops), its personnel composition and organization structure. In the Thesis estimated the Lithuanian Armed Forces military material maintenance and repair of the nature and principles during combat operations, as well as established methodology to evaluate the predictive military material losses and the demand for evacuation

No full textThe authors follow structural functionalism and neofunctionalism as dominant methodology for interpretation of social security as a social institution (mechanism) controlling homeostasis and sustainability of the social system (society). Security in the contemporary society is a very complex, ambiguous matter. It is a synthetic, integrative unlike many other types of security, since it accumulates, on the one hand, partial processes, relevant data and at the same time allows to focus on the main directions of search. Because of the plural problems (challenges, threats, dangers, etc.) The paper leaves for analysis only those that threaten stability and sustainable development of society as such. Crime is one of such problems, which are rather acute in both (ukrainian and lithuanian) societies are analyzed. The authors stressed the importance of trust in the public and social institutions fighting crime, presenting and analyzing relevant data. The analysis of problems related to counteraction to crime is provided by authors in the context of society's reforms and also based on statistical data as well as on the results of public opinion polls

For army forces the vehicles help to carry out the daily functions, such as cargo or people transportation. Lithuanian armed forces use a lot of different types of vehicles and regularly renewing its capasity with new ones. As the vehicles are used every day, the failures are unavoidable, so the repair works shall be performed in order to restore the normal condition of the vehicles
Officer career management system: a case of the Lithuanian grand duke Gediminas staff battalion.
No full textDue to the current geopolitical situation in the world, more attention is paid to the national defence. The machinery and armament are improved as well as the military forces are increased rapidly. In 2005, the mandatory initial military service, i.e. a conscript army was returned in Lithuania. The army increased by 3000 conscripts with the first conscription, 150 out of them started service at Gediminas Staff Battalion. This year (2017) the new lists of soldiers of mandatory initial military service are also made. The army is envisaged to increase by three thousand conscripts after the conscription in 2017. After returning the conscript army, the demand of military officers of professional military service has increased in military units of Lithuania. Due to this reason, the appropriate military career management as well as the implementation of the military career management system are very important. The problem of the research is how military career management system of Lithuanian armed forces is implemented in Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas Staff Battalion? The object of the research is the military career management system in Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas Staff Battalion. The aim of this paper is to analyse the implementation of the military career management system in Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas Staff Battalion. Four tasks were carried out in order to reach the aim: 1) to analyse a career and the theoretical basis of it; 2) to analyse the military career management system of the national defence system; 3) to find out the opinion of military officers of Gediminas Staff Battalion about the implementation of the career management system; 4) carrying out the research and analysing the military career management system in Gediminas Staff Battalion, to present proposals which would help to improve the military career management system in Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas Staff Battalion. Methods of the research are the analysis and synthesis of scientific literature, the analysis of documents and legislation, the questionnaire, the analysis, generalization and interpretation of the results of the questionnaire. In the theoretical part of the paper it was found out that the career management is a process which encompasses a career planning and the implementation of the career management system. During the career management process, an organization and/or an employee comes up with solutions related to individual career. For the implementation of a career management process, the career management system is necessary, according to which an organization suggests or an individual chooses the most optimal career development method for his/her employee. The military career of Lithuanian armed forces is managed according to the military career management system of Lithuanian armed forces which is regulated by Military Career Conception. The results of the empirical research revealed that almost a half (47%) of respondents are not familiar with the military career management system. The same number of respondents say that there are some drawbacks of military career management in the battalion. 54% of military officers distinguished the absence of a responsible person, who would give an information related to career questions, as the biggest drawback. 56% of military officers who serve at Gediminas Staff Battalion claimed that they do not have any prepared individual military career plans. The rest 44% of military officers who claimed that they have prepared career plans said that their immediate superiors informed them about it. However, respondents claimed that they did not see any plans or did not participate in the preparation of them. On the basis of the results of the research, the author offered suggestions which would help to improve the implementation of the military career management system in Gediminas Staff Battalion

Most influential and noticeable – the U.S., France and China. All three major powers are expanding their influence and maximizing their power by strengthening economic ties with the resources rich sub-Sahara, dealing with common threats and shaping the image of country in international arena with various soft power instruments. Contrary to France and the U.S., China’s agenda in Africa is limited to peace and stability and does not include democratization component. A result – the regional balance of power – the state seeks to dominate and increase their power, to find new or other measurements to implement their interests in order to offset the other major power in a region by the frequent use of asymmetric tactics

No full textEnergy is one of the main resources required for successful sustainment of the military. Previously there was a big lack of attention for this topic in NATO countries, but recently this mindset has changed when demand and cost of military operational energy increased drastically. Additionally, it is expected to increase even more in the future. Therefore, a lot of effort is put into controlling energy waste during all military activities. Powering base camps plays a significant role in operational energy consumption during contingency operations where every liter of fuel is highly valuable both in money and lives of the soldiers. What is more, meaningful savings can also be made in casual military exercises during peacetime, where energy is also important and has to be provided autonomously
