The Research on Security Measures against Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in the Lithuanian Armed Forces in Peacetime.
The chosen topic of the bachelor thesis has become currently relevant because the activity of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) in the world is increasing. Military conflict in Ukraine has shown the growing use of such aircraft in military and civil conflicts. Due to the capabilities and size of various drones, their shoot down has become difficult. The problem: units of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, military exercises, the military equipment of Lithuania and its NATO allies attract more and more attention from the people. Such factors have led to the intensive use of drones over military areas and other restricted areas. Airborne threats coming from the drones have revealed a security loophole in the Lithuanian Armed Forces. However, Lithuanian Armed forces do not have any security measures that can effectively fight against hostile drones. The first part of the thesis deals with the dangers of the drones: a threat analysis and its types are presented. A brief overview of the main requirements for protection measures raised by the Ministry of National Defense (Annex 1). The following is a description of the combat concept developed by MND on how to combat the unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). The concept has three combat modules: Module I - Detection, Module II - Identification / Tracking, Module III - Neutralization. An overview of detection methods, drone neutralization options, specific blocked frequencies, and the main weapon - the jammer. Also, the causes of crashing of the unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) are presented by S. Japertas. The second part provides an overview of the nine protective measures and their distinctive features that are of interest to MND. The third part of the bachelor's thesis is a research. The investigative part consists of four parts. The first part examines data from expert questionnaires. The compatibility of opinions with Kendall's coefficient of concordance W1 (ten experts) in the first case and W2 (four experts) in the second case, is sought. In the second part, according to expert assessments, the ranking of technical criteria according to W1 and W2 rankings was performed. The third part of the study consists of a hierarchical clustering method, which allows to distinguish similar and not similar means for protection based on the average of all means for Lithuania. The fourth part consists of an ORD table analysis
The Evaluation of the Lithuanian Armed Forces’ Capabilities for Electronic Fight.
Electronic warfare is currently one of the most relevant ways of fighting. This is a fast developing fighting technique, since modern battles use modern weapons and technology. And most countries, realizing that they cannot catch up with the modernization of their military equipment by one or other country, are investing heavily in an electronic warfare, which is precisely counter the technology’s advantage. Although the electronic warfare is used since the Second World War, this is quite new field in Lithuanian Armed Forces. But Lithuania should not be an exception, having a powerful and aggressive neighbor Russia. Electronic warfare is one of the areas that can help win against a more modern and powerful opponent. Therefore, it is very important to evaluate the electronic warfare capabilities in the Lithuanian Armed Forces and improve them. The aim of this research is to find out what the classification of electronic warfare, what are NATO and Russian electronic warfare capabilities, to evaluate the electronic warfare capabilities of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and to submit reasoned suggestions on how to improve the electronic warfare system of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The objectives of the work was to find out how the electronic warfare is classified and what devices are being used. Also to determine what criteria can be used to evaluate electronic warfare capabilities. Finally, determine the electronic warfare systems used by the Lithuanian Armed Forces, Russia and NATO countries and compare them according to selected criteria
Optimization of the selection of mini unmanned aerial vehicle systems designed to perform the functions of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
The first part of the bachelor thesis analyses the pilotless aircrafts: the classification of pilotless aircrafts, technical chacateristics of mini pilotless aircrafts, the countries, which actively produce the pilotless aircrafts and their components are given as well. The second part reviews the pilotless aircrafts, used in Lithuanian army, stressing the demand for the mini pilotless aircraft, whivj is being created. In the third research part, the expert survey is presented in order to evaluate the main criteria of the mini pilotless aircraft. The research consists of two parts. In the first part the answers of the exoerts are determined by Kendall concordation coeficient, which is calculated on the basis of ranking of comparable criteria. In the second part mini pilotless aircrafts are compared. They are distributed into clusters according to their similarities. Basing on the conclusions of the thesis the main technical parameters and components of the mini pilotless aircrafts are identified. Suggestions about the optimized mini aircraft system for the functions of Lithuanian army are presented
Georgia's security dilemma: between West and Russia.
Bachelor thesis Georgian security dilemma: between West and Russia main task is to evaluate Georgia‘s security dilemma between Russia and euroatlantic integration by determining factors which increase and decrease Georgia‘s security. Transatlantic relations‘ crisis in the 21st century.
Already in the beginning of the 21st century transatlantic economy was recognized as the largest market in the world and constituted 54% of the world‘s GDP and 40% of purchasing power. Nine out of twenty world‘s highest defence spending countries are member states of NATO, and, according to data collected in 2012, the USA and the EU supported world‘s developing countries by more than 120 billion US dollars. All referred aspects prove that the significance of transatlantic relations is of global importance. Relations developing between the USA and the EU are valuable not only to the countries themselves but also to the whole international community, that is why incompatibility of transatlantic partners‘ positions on main issues in international politics in the 21st century is one of the most relevant questions when analysing international politics
Climate change as a national security threat: the case of Lithuania.
In the XXI century a climate change could be considered as one of the most important global problems the world is facing. Inaccurate assessment of this threat may lead to the increased vulnerability of country's national security. For this reason, it is necessary for Lithuania to evaluate the consequences caused by climate change and to identify what kind of threats it may pose to the security of Lithuania. In order to avoid irreversible and catastrophic changes in the global climate system, it is necessary to ensure that the global annual average temperature does not increase more than 2°C in comparison to pre-industrial level. If no appropriate measures will be taken, by the end of of this century, the average global temperature may increase by up to 4°C. Such changes would have a huge impact on the whole world
