    No full text
The aim of this study is to discuss nexus between defense spending and certain economic variables in Lithuania during 2009–2018. Considering the fact that there are no universal analytical tools for measuring defense expenditure nexus with economic growth, in this study, data comparison and correlation analyses are conducted with key economic variables being interpreted. Increased defense spending, successful reforms in the Armed Forces, and NATO/EU activities contributed to the security of Lithuania and provided positive stimulus for the national economy. The term security fluctuate factor, describing the yearly security investment responsiveness effect on the state economy, is offered in the study for the first time. The main results support nexus findings between defense spending and economic growth as they indicate positive correlation between distinctive state economic variables and extensive defense spending in Lithuania, especially in the post-2014 period

Identification of sectoral logistics service quality gaps by applying SERVQUAL method /

    No full text
Today, simply delivering a product to the right place at the right time is no longer enough. Customers demand more; they demand the full suite of logistics services. Customers thus seek higher-value and additional services, and more, which enable them to compete. Thus, the problem underlying analysis is customers’ growing dissatisfaction with existing services and their quality. Quality of service no longer gives business entities a competitive edge. It is vital for companies to have different activities, to operate in different branches of the economy, and to work with different types of goods. How-ever, despite these differences, they all want to obtain maximum satisfaction from logistics services. With this in mind, the purpose of this article is to present a study examining the impact of logistics service quality on the satisfaction of companies working with different categories of goods Results indicated that different logistics service users do not have the same requirements for logistics service quality. Moreover, it was proved that SERVQUAL method is suitable for identification of sectoral value gaps, which can be applied in practice assuring competitive advantage

The small state’s role in the Euro-Atlantic area: Potential changes in Lithuania’s foreign policy /

    No full text
Lithuania is a small state by objective features (population, territory, GDP) and subjective ones (geopolitical position, resilience from external security threats, national identity). The goal of this research is to define the main roles of Lithuania, which are relevant to the Lithuanian foreign policy decision-making process nowadays. Those roles are the structure for Lithuania’s new President Gitanas Nausėda. While during his presidency he will have the possibility to modify them, for now for the roles formed and enacted over the last ten years serve as the limits of the change of the policy in the Euro-Atlantic area. The main assumption regarding the roles of Lithuania in the Euro-Atlantic area is that policymakers emphasize the smallness of the state. Accordingly, being a small state is translated to a set of expected and appropriate behavior. Therefore, the classical definition of smallness suggests that Lithuania’s roles should include the strategies of hiding and appeal to democratic values. In order to deny or confirm the assumptions, the research includes the definition of small states, an analysis of small state foreign policy strategies, the main thesis of the Role theory, the theoretical basis of subjective smallness concept, and discussion of Lithuania’s roles in the Euro-Atlantic area, using an interpretive methodology of Social constructivism

    Leadership curriculum development issues /

    No full text
Leadership education there is one of the aims of Military academy. According to the military nature the institution seeks clear and rational process of leadership education, well-developed curriculum as well as appropriate leader training methods. It is, so called, the second nature for many in the military to default any processes of education or training as technically rational and that it is true not only for training in basic soldier and officer skills, but for leader education as well. Among others there is the systematic approach in education which emphasis puts on the design, resourcing, execution, and assessment phases in education (Razik, T.S.) Introduction of the systematic approach towards leadership training and development within military academy is widely accepted approach. It suggests that leadership education has to be developed control orientated mapping of check-list of leader competencies, despite that it narrows the assessment process and represents over technical, more bureaucratic then professional approach toward leadership education. Such leadership education is more orientated toward quantitative knowledge assessment. The research done by the scientist in USA army (Reed. G., Bullis. C., Collins.R., Paparone C., 2004) identify that this approach lacks the complex of contextual and relational elements that combine to determine leadership effectiveness or failure. Meanwhile realizing the nature of education, which is a man-made structured entity with a specific purpose, we should remember its purpose is usually integrated and influenced by the purpose of its supra-system, that is society. Also, education is composed of numerous subsystems such as curriculum, instruction, guidance, administration, infrastructure etc. Each of these sub-systems has its own objectives and each serves the overall educational purpose. Changing society as well as the changing environment of military actions requires new or so called other professional and leadership competencies, skills of military personnel. The role of military leader is undertaking changes as well. Professional military officer needs the body of expertise and competencies what are based on abstract knowledge. Military institution, like other companies, needs people who can synthesize rapidly changing information and apply it to the challenging environment (Kinicki A., Fugate M., 2016) Abstract knowledge are difficult to define because it is the synthesis of experience and intuition. It involves the elements of science as well as the art. Creativity and critical thinking drives from this as the important competencies. Teaching and delivering content of such synthesized knowledge especially in military environment it is the challenge because the role of teacher and curriculum goes in front. A good teacher may overcome the poor curriculum, thought great curriculum will not substitute the poor teacher (Reed. G., Bullis. C., Collins.R., Paparone Ch., 2004). Conference paper is based on the data extracted from the content analysis of scientific articles on the field of leadership education, leadership curriculum development, etc. Also results from survey data analysis gathered among the Lithuania Amy officers’ and Alumni of national military academy. Data was gathered during winter 2019-2020. The research instrument was created in order to find out the number of answers to following research questions: what kind of skills (hard and soft) (Casserly. M., 2013) and competencies should be elaborated and included within the leadership curriculum; who and how should make an decision about the content of Leadership curriculum; how constant changes within society as well as within military institution in VUCA world (Warren. B., Burt. N., 1987) should be reflected on leadership education; what kind of education methodology and why should be apply in teaching that bring to the top effectiveness in leadership education, ect
