Ustekinumab as a potential therapeutic agent in bullous pemphigoid: a biologic and clinical proof-of-concept study
International audienceWe report promising clinical outcomes using ustekinumab as a first-line therapy in bullous pemphigoid when combined with a short, 8-week regimen of superpotent topical corticosteroids. Furthermore, the CD40 ligand/interleukin-4 ratio emerged as a potential predictive biomarker of treatment response, possibly reflecting a T helper 1-skewed immune environment that favours ustekinumab’s mechanism of action
Capturing Migration Narratives as a Sensitive Human Experience: An Attempt at a Co-Constructed Photographic Writing
International audienceThis approach focuses on the actors, places, and practices that shape their interactions. It examines migration pathways in French Guiana questioning the generalizability of a specific method.Photography and non-representational (Thrift, 2000 , 2008 ), sensitive (Merleau-Ponty , 1976), and dialogical approaches are used to co-produce series of images that depict individual pathways. In these visual narratives, individuals stage their life stories through a conscious form of theatricality (Goffman , 1990). This performative action involves choices regarding locations, postures, contexts, and the presence of family or friends. It enables the composition of trajectories through a visual narration that formalizes implicit meanings, the unspeakable, and trauma. The corpus consists of series—chronotopes—that depict the stages and influences of these pathways through a visual writing style that transcends the linearity of textual narratives and biographical chronology. The complexity of intimate choices is expressed, offering a vision of vision (Jay , 2009). These chronotopes (visual productions) reflect aesthetic, creative, reflexive, and sensitive choices, surpassing the indexical and observational dimensions of photography. The methodology employs a large-format camera and medium format photography, structuring images through iconological motifs drawn from European art history (Warburg , Panofsky ,1969).This approach seeks to capture the complexity of individual pathways and the motivations underlying choices, practices, and representations (migrant, individual). It complements quantitative approaches by identifying variables that can be further explored.
International audienceFrom the early phases of colonization, the settlement history of French Guiana has been structured by the coexistence of populations of heterogeneous origins, embedded within asymmetrical relations of power. Alongside Indigenous populations and European colonizers, successive waves of coerced and semi-coerced migrants were incorporated into the territory—enslaved populations, penal labourers, and indentured workers—while others were drawn by extractive opportunities associated with the gold rush (Piantoni, 2009).These trajectories cannot be reduced to a binary opposition between domination and incorporation. Rather, they reflect differentiated positionalities vis-à-vis the colonial order, ranging from resistance and evasion to partial incorporation and negotiated forms of engagement. In this context, processes of creolization can be understood as inherently political, producing hybrid cultural formations through the selective appropriation, reworking, and at times subversion of imposed norms and practices (Jolivet, 1982; Mintz and Price, 1992). The consolidation of French Guiana as a regional migratory pole during the second half of the twentieth century has further reconfigured these dynamics, intensifying both social heterogeneity and spatial differentiation (Piantoni, 2009, 2011).Contemporary spatial configurations reflect the articulation between structural constraints—particularly those linked to colonial governance, land control, and uneven access to resources—and situated practices of inhabiting. Different groups have developed distinct socio-spatial strategies, grounded in specific relationships to the environment and in differential capacities to access and mobilize key resources (Morel-Brochet and Ortar, 2012).While certain populations historically occupied the interior through fluvial networks—particularly Amerindian and Maroon groups, as well as Creole populations during the gold rush—nearly 90% of the population is כיום concentrated along the coastal zone. This litoralization reflects both historical legacies of colonial spatial ordering and contemporary dynamics of economic centralization. Coastal environments—rivers, savannas, mangroves, and forests—thus constitute key interfaces where competing modes of territorialization are enacted.Settlement patterns are consequently highly differentiated, ranging from urban centres to dispersed habitats, villages, small towns, and isolated dwellings. Rather than approaching this diversity through an exhaustive typology, this chapter foregrounds the persistence of underlying logics in the production of space in French Guiana. In particular, it emphasizes the centrality of margins—not as peripheral or residual spaces, but as strategic sites where power relations are negotiated, contested, and reconfigured.Dès les débuts de la colonisation, l’histoire du peuplement de la Guyane a conduit àla cohabitation de populations d’origines diverses.
Effectiveness and Safety of a Second JAK Inhibitor in Ulcerative Colitis: The J2J Multicentre Study
International audienceBackground While three Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKi) have demonstrated efficacy in ulcerative colitis (UC), scarce data exist regarding JAKi intraclass switching. Aim To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of a second JAK inhibitor in UC. Methods This was a multicentre, retrospective, observational cohort including patients with moderate to severe UC who received a second‐line of JAKi after failure or intolerance of a first. The primary outcome was steroid‐free clinical remission (SFCR) at Weeks 8–14, defined as a partial Mayo score of 2 or less with no individual sub‐score above 1. Results Among the 169 patients from 28 participating centres, 105 received upadacitinib, 54 filgotinib and 10 tofacitinib as a second‐line of JAKi. Overall, 81/169 achieved SFCR at Weeks 8–14: 58/105 with upadacitinib, 18/54 with filgotinib and 5/10 with tofacitinib ( p = 0.03). In the multivariate analysis, upadacitinib was independently associated with higher odds of SFCR than filgotinib (OR = 3.15, 95% CI [1.52–6.79]). With a median follow‐up duration of 96 days, drug persistence at 6 months was 72.8% with upadacitinib, 57.2% with filgotinib and 66.7% with tofacitinib ( p = 0.099). 24.3% of patients (41/169) experienced at least one adverse event leading to treatment withdrawal in 9 patients (5%). No cases of death, cancer, or major acute cardiovascular events were reported. Conclusion A second‐line of JAKi provided clinical remission in about half of patients after induction, and was well tolerated
Psychological need satisfaction, frustration, and unfulfillment profiles in the workplace: Their nature, predictors, and outcomes
International audienceBased on self-determination theory, this research relied on person-centered analyses to show how the distinct components of psychological need states combine to produce distinct profiles. We also explored contemporarily antecedents (perceptions of the organization's environmental corporate social responsibility and negative moral emotions related to the organization's environmental (ir)responsibility) and organizational outcomes (affective organizational commitment, turnover intentions, and cyberslacking). Questionnaire surveys were completed by 525 French employees. Four profiles characterized by configurations of psychological need states were identified and showed well-differentiated patterns. Negative moral emotions predicted membership in the most detrimental need states profiles while corporate social responsibility perceptions did not. As expected, we found opposite patterns of associations between profile membership and affective organizational commitment and turnover intentions, while the highest levels of cyberslacking were found in the most positive need states profiles. The results add to person-centered research and emphasize the importance of psychological experiences in the workplace and organizational outcomes

Effects of electron beam radiation and annealing on the crystallinity and tensile properties of a 3D-printed PLA-based material
International audienceThis article reports on the influence of electron beam irradiation on the tensile properties and crystallinity of 3Dprinted PLA-based materials. Monitoring the evolution of key tensile properties as a function of dose confirmed the detrimental effects of irradiation with a typical loss of about 50 % of tensile strength and ultimate displacement after a 75 kGy treatment. Particular attention was paid on the nature of crystalline domains and degree of crystallinity χ in samples analyzed by calorimetry and X-ray diffractometry, as obtained after 3D-printing, after irradiation and after annealing in optimized conditions. The χ value in irradiated samples was shown to initially increase from 19 to 24 % and return to 19 % at 100 kGy before a stronger decay at 300 kGy. The maximum crystallization capacity of the same samples was much higher (χ>60 %) within this dose range. Crystallinity can therefore be adjusted after irradiation with possible beneficial effects to mitigate the undesired impact of irradiation. For samples irradiated at 75 kGy with a loss of 50-60 % on tensile strength and ultimate displacement, part of the mechanical damage due to irradiation was recovered by soft annealing at 60 °C, increasing the tensile strength by 20 % and ultimate displacement by 50 %. This remarkable result can be interpreted by considering the particular sensitivity to the evolution of tie chains. While chain scission under radiation is effective and mechanically impactful in domains closed to crystallites, chemi-crystallization is believed to occur with partial healing of the damages due to chain scission
