    IgE-mediated anaphylaxis induced by pembrolizumab

    No full text
International audienceThe increasing use of biologics in cancer treatment is associated with an increase in drug-related hypersensitivity reactions (HSR) of varying severity. Pembrolizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody specifically targeting the programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) receptor, largely used in lung cancer and other malignancies. Pembrolizumab-related HSR has rarely been described, with very few reported positive allergy tests. We describe the case of a 77-year-old man treated for metastatic lung adenocarcinoma, who presented a severe anaphylactic reaction during the 8 th pembrolizumab administration. Allergy tests confirmed the type I IgE-mediated hypersensitivity mechanism.Based on the four published cases, immediate HSR induced by pembrolizumab can occur after several treatment courses with potentially severe anaphylactic reactions. Mild symptoms during the preceding courses might occur and should be monitored. Skin tests are reliable, safe, and useful to guide management. When immediate HSR induced by pembrolizumab is confirmed, rapid drug desensitization may be considered. Further studies are needed to identify risk factors for immediate HSR induced by pembrolizumab

    No full text
International audienceThis study examines Gustave Guillaume’s perspective on the formation of the word inArabic. According to his “theory of trois saisies” on the typology of languages, the word inArabic, unlike in French, is formed by a double saisie lexicale. Per this theory, the word inArabic is formed by two saisies: the first one takes place in the language and ismatérialisante, and the second saisie is completed in the discourse and is formalisante. However, after comparing his perspective with that of Arab and Arabist grammarians whohad investigated the morphology of the word in Arabic and the origin of its derivation, thisstudy found that the second saisie lexicale is rather formed partly in language and partly indiscourse. This means that the significance of the second saisie lexicale is likely to beaffected by whether the maṣdar or the verb in the perfect tense is taken as the basis of thederivation.

A longitudinal person-centered investigation of the multidimensional nature of employees’ individual orientations

    No full text
International audiencePurpose This person-centered investigation seeks to understand the main configurations taken by four critical personal characteristics (i.e. personal life orientation, family orientation, commitment to organizational career and work centrality) among distinct profiles of workers. We also aimed to investigate the longitudinal stability of these profiles and of their relations with a series of outcomes (i.e. family-to-work enrichment and conflict, work-to-family enrichment and conflict, organizational citizenship behaviors directed toward the organization and substance use at work). Design/methodology/approach We capitalized on a sample of 415 workers who completed the same set of measures twice across a time interval of three months. Findings Our results revealed five profiles: Oriented Toward Personal Interests, Highly Family-Oriented, Work-Centered, Normative and Moderately Family-Oriented. These profiles displayed a moderate to high level of stability over time. All outcomes also differed across profiles, with the more adaptive outcomes being associated with the Highly Family-Oriented profile. Originality/value The person-centered approach adopted in this study highlights the importance of this joint consideration of various personal characteristics to better understand the combinations of these characteristics and thus provide a more realistic reflection of the reality

    No full text
The research focuses on the regulation of predictive justice tools. Technically, these tools are computer applications that use more or less advanced machine learning and Natural Language Processing technologies to analyse a large volume of previous decisions. These technologies are used to reproduce, by machine, the work of analysing judicial decisions that a human being could have done, to a lesser extent, in order to carry out a gigantic task of sorting and analysing their text. By making the state of litigation on a given issue visible on a large scale, these tools go well beyond a simple documentary research function and are intended to influence, ultimately, the decision of the legal professional who uses them. In addition, by giving prominence to decisions by trial judges that were previously relatively unknown, predictive justice tools influence the ordering of sources of law and create a risk of ‘factualisation’ of the law. Lastly, they have an impact on the guarantees arising from the right to a fair trial, such as effective access to an independent and impartial judge and equality of arms. Under these conditions, the way in which they are designed and used cannot be left to the laws of the market alone. The aim of our research is therefore to sketch out a global approach – combining economics, law, metrology and sociology – to the question of how to guarantee confidence in the public justice service in the light of predictive justice tools. After demonstrating the need to regulate the market for predictive justice tools, the work carried out in the law-economics area was designed to examine the methods of this regulation. Both the methods of ex ante regulation of predictive justice tools, by analysing the modern approach to compliance in particular, and the methods of ex post regulation, by looking at the responsibility of players in this area, were studied. The aim of the research in the law and metrology area was to complement the theoretical approach to compliance by studying the feasibility of evaluating predictive justice tools with a view to their possible certification. This work, carried out in partnership with experts from the Laboratoire national de métrologie et d’essais (LNE), enabled an initial set of specifications to be drawn up for conducting a risk analysis and an assessment plan based on a certifiable standard. The aim of the law and sociology section was to consider, from both a practical and theoretical perspective, how predictive justice tools can change the way the law is made and justice delivered. The work carried out highlighted the need for professional training in this area and the need to prioritise decisions on the merits using a method that has yet to be developed. At the end of the report, it emerged that academic research and public authorities in the broadest sense have a crucial role to play in ensuring that these technologies genuinely improve access to justice while preserving the fundamental principles of law.

    No full text
International audienceTontine is an informal saving and credit practice. In Africa, the tontinier phenomenon is important. The emergency context of the tontines is closely linked to the difficulties of access to credit for a part of the population. The importance of the informal sector in the economy implies the development of these organisations which rely on an association of individuals who will have to cooperate to achieve their personal goals in a specific organisational framework, here, relatively limited and united. This specificity is due to the governance mechanisms applied (traditionally, a necessary trust between the members of the tontine); to the purpose of these organizations (generally, the constitution of a savings - a fund -). An underlying question is the evolution of the organization of tontine and, more generally, of the tontine model of tomorrow. In this paper, we study tontines located in Mali and Ivory Coast (West Africa).La tontina es una práctica informal de ahorro y crédito.

    No full text

Understanding Mycorrhizal Dynamics in Alfalfa Cultivation: Influence of Plant Age and Soil Tillage

    No full text
International audienceThis study explores the dynamics of mycorrhization in response to alfalfa age and tillage practices. Over two consecutive autumns (2022 and 2023), root samples from alfalfa plants aged between 1 and 5 years were collected in northeastern France from 10 farmers’ fields, including five managed with conventional plowing and five using simplified cultivation techniques (SCT). In each field, six subplots covering a total of 1.35 m² were selected to measure taproot biomass, alfalfa density and root mycorrhization rate. The results indicate that both alfalfa age and tillage practices significantly influence mycorrhizal symbiosis. The mycorrhizal intensity increased with alfalfa age, peaking at 5 years in this study. Under conventional plowing, it ranged from 3% (at 1 year) to 17% (at 5 years), whereas under SCT, it reached 40% at 5 years. The abundance of arbuscules followed a similar trend, being higher under SCT (12%) compared to conventional plowing (3%). These findings suggest that reduced tillage helps preserve mycelial networks, thereby facilitating more effective mycorrhizal colonization in alfalfa. In SCT fields, alfalfa density accounted for 19% of the variation in mycorrhization in 2022 and 40% in 2023, suggesting a positive impact of this practice on mycorrhizal dynamics and the importance of roots characteristics in enhancing mycorrhizal network efficiency. This study highlights the importance of sustainable agricultural practices in preserving mycorrhizal networks in alfalfa, emphasizing their key role in mycorrhizal dynamics and soil biological quality

Disgust, Distrust, and Xenodyskheria: Mapping the Emotional Landscape of Group Biases Before, During, and After the Pandemic

    No full text
International audienceThe behavioral immune system (a set of antipathogenic psychological adaptations driven by disgust) has been shown to shape social dynamics and outgroup prejudice. Traditional models of xenophobia have emphasized the role of fear, stress, and anxiety, often overlooking the role of disgust. To better capture the specificity of disgust-driven prejudice, we introduce the term xenodyskheria (from xenos-(ξένος) = stranger and -dyskheria (δυσχέρεια) = disgust). Exploring the extent of xenodyskheria before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic, we found that, prior to the pandemic, pathogen disgust had no effect on rejection of and callousness towards healthy looking strangers. However, at the pandemic’s onset, pathogen disgust became the primary driver of outgroup prejudice. In contrast, neither stress nor anxiety significantly impacted outgroup prejudice during or after the pandemic. Interestingly, moral disgust acted as a “buffer”, mitigating exclusionary tendencies despite being highly correlated with pathogen disgust. Additionally, we found no reversion to pre-pandemic levels of xenodyskheria, suggesting that the COVID-19 crisis may have left a more enduring imprint on social dynamics than previously assumed. Results are discussed in the light of evolutionary theories. Future research avenues for a dual-process model of behavioral immunity and for pre-genocide dehumanization processes are proposed
