How Do Influencers Influence Millennials’ Travel Decisions?
The success of a travel destination in the world of advanced technology is becoming increasingly difficult to achieve without quality internet advertising. Communication and marketing strategies must be adequate for the modern man who wants to be approached uniquely and in accordance with their needs. This is especially true of the Millennials generation, who make decision about the travel destination, with the help of various social media through which influencers are advertised. The purpose of this research is to investigate the connection between influencer marketing and millennial’s Travel Decision Making Process. A survey was selected for the research method and was distributed via e-mail to all students of RIT Croatia, on both campuses. Between March 27 and April 10 of 2020, 133 respondents answered survey questions
Reliability and validity of customer satisfaction questionnaires in hotels in Dubrovnik area
The customer satisfaction questionnaire was the most used tool to measure the satisfaction of customers in hotel industry. From the hotel’s perspective, it was important to fulfill the needs and wishes of their customers and provide them with great customer experience. This measure was used in order to improve overall service quality. This paper showed what the important elements of good questionnaires are. The analysis of questionnaires of hotels in Dubrovnik area showed lack of usage of the main quality dimensions that are the principal part of constructing the questionnaire itself
Understanding Work Conflicts Among Family and Non-Family Employees – Applications in Family Hotels
Family owned hotels in Croatia represent specific niche that attracts many customers even though there is no official record of them. In family owned hotels, there are family and non-family employees that have different view on business. At a work place, conflicts arise and it is important to see what is the main cause and how they can be resolved. Online questionnaire was distributed to members of National Association of Small and Family Hotels in Croatia and it shows that most of the employees, regardless of their family or non-family belonging are resolving conflicts by open communication. Majority of conflicts come out because of unclear work tasks, distrust and lack of tolerance among employees, disagreement with supervisor and wrong perception
Makarska Riviera as a Destination; Comparison of opinions between tourists and locals
Due to the increase of global traveling trends, for a world‟s destinations it became a necessity to
differentiate on the market. In the last years tourism industry in Croatia has been expanding. Due
to that there is a lack of research done on this topic in Croatia; the purpose of this paper is to
assess the following key issues: Quality of Makarska Riviera as a destination and Motivational
factors of guests in Makarska Riviera for choosing it as a destination.
Paper based questionnaire was delivered to the locals from Makarska Riviera, locals who are
working in tourism sector and to the tourists from the area of Makarska Riviera. The results of
overall quality, when assessed by three groups showed that quality of services provided is high,
with a safety as the most important differentiating factor. Furthermore, the results showed that
safety, quality of natural scenery and experiencing of natural and cultural are the most important motivational factors of guests for choosing Makrska Riviera as a destination
LABOR MARKET AND HR CHALLENGES IN NAUTICAL TOURISM
Croatia is well known for its numerous natural beauties and tourists coming to have
summer vacations at the Adriatic coast. Croatia, together with Greece is a leader in the charter
domain, therefore it is important for both countries to stay competitive in the market.
Due to high seasonality in Croatia, it is difficult for most service providers to find quality
employees, therefore this research investigates the HR challenges in charter companies of
nautical tourism. An online questionnaire was distributed to 20 managers/owners of small to
medium sized charter companies in Croatia which measured amount of difficulty in hiring for
a certain position in nautical tourism, reasons for difficulty in hiring for a certain position,
company recruiting strategies, training strategies and budget.
Results suggest that it is difficult to fill out positions such as base manager, maintenance and
repairs and accounting due to lack of experience, talent poaching and the local market not
producing enough work-ready candidates. However, these companies clearly lack both
recruitment and training strategies
“Employee Engagement at Work: Hire for Talent, Train for Knowledge”
This research paper studied different approaches towards employee motivation,
willingness to exceed expectations and enthusiasm based on geographic location, culture and
age components. With a purpose of finding the gap between newly educated workforce and
industry professionals. Questionnaire was distributed to 60 students half from Zagreb and half
from Dubrovnik area, and among 6 industry professionals operating on both locations. Groups
considered relationships among colleagues and way of communication as the most important
factors for employee motivation. Because of the need to create desirable working
environment from which both employer and employee will benefit and mutually rise towards success
Service Gaps and Employee Training Fixing Luxury Experiences
The luxury hotel industry faces the challenge to provide excellent service experiences to its
customers. This paper aimed to identify service gaps in luxury hotels to confirm the need for
employee training. Previous studies emphasized the importance of training and development,
to arm employees with the capability to deliver excellent service in a servicescape as part of a
Gestalt configuration. To identify service gaps and the need of training, content analysis was
used as a method. The analysis had the objective to confirm the assumed guests’ desires of
luxury services in the secondary research and identify the significance of employee training to
arm human resources to fulfill guests’ expectations. Results indicated that about significant
portion of overall comments have reported service failures. This confirmed the need for
training in hard skills and soft skills to fix luxury experiences to close the trending service gaps
of rudeness, slowness, lack of attention, lack of skills, poor supervision and lack of problemsolving skills
Light Design practices in Dubrovnik Restaurants
The goal of this research was to determine what are some of the practices when it comes to light
design in Dubrovnik Based restaurants. Observation method was used as part of this project in
order to create a matrix of different value which was later used as a primary tool for developing
results. Restaurants were categorized into three different categories, fine dining restaurants,
casual dining restaurants, and modern fast food restaurants in order to be able to compare
observed data and create a conclusion to what some of the light design practices in Dubrovnik
are. Dubrovnik based fine dining restaurants invest in both designs of the physical fixtures as
well as research and development of determining best colors, positioning, and design of light.
Casual dining restaurants put emphasis on interior design such as furniture and wallpapers while
light, mostly white colored is in the second plan. Modern Fast food restaurants do not lack
creativity in interior design and are designed by the book with white bright light predominant.
Dubrovnik restaurants are following the trends, but there is room for improvement when it
comes to uniqueness and creativity
OVERTOURISM: PERCEPTIONS AND STRATEGIES OF BUSINESSES IN THE OLD TOWN OF DUBROVNIK
Overtourism is the term from 60s popularly used today to express negative effects of
overcrowding of touristic destinations. Croatia is a country very dependent on tourism, and
Dubrovnik is the most popular touristic city suffering from overtourism, threatened to
become profit-thirsty resort. Since there has been a lot of media attention to this problem,
this paper focuses on strategies and perceptions of the businesses in the Old Town of
Dubrovnik on the current situation and the future. Survey of 30 businesses investigates their
business strategies and thoughts on the proposed limitation on visitors to the Old Town.
The survey confirmed they are operating in the mass market, and focus on premium pricing.
It revealed there could be a major impacts on the businesses if the city limits the number of
tourists. However, since many of them have been in the Old Town for more than a decade,
people do not actually believe these measures would ever be implemented – that anything
would change

Social media is flooding our lives today and it is unavoidable. It is influencing our
writing and even learning abilities. However, due to the research so far it showed that
students and other adolescents are learning other languages through those social media tools,
and they are even trying to improve their grammar and vocabulary when writing online posts
or simple messages. Did social media apps ruin us or is it improving our literature skills?
As a method for collecting necessary data, content analysis was used as a main tool. Overall
research showed that people are more observant when it comes to texting and posting online,
and that it also reflects on school assignments as they practice writing not only during school
time but all the time through social media. Contradicting the popular opinion that social
media is decreasing our writing skills, it may as well help to improve
