    The consequence of the COVID-19 on the restaurant businesses and adaptations to transition from dine-in to takeaway.

    The adaptations restaurants had to take during the covid-19 pandemic in order to remain in business as a crisis management response. The pandemic has affected the world in many ways enforcing movement restrictions and social distancing. The restaurants businesses had suffered immensely due to different governments setting the stay-at-home rules which made them think of new adaptations to transition from dine-in to takeaway. Results have suggested that the restaurant businesses should act in practicing crisis management to have less damage and faster recovery in the case of future crises

    Price Determinants in Upscale Hotels During Covid-19 Crisis

    This research paper examines how much up-scale hotels decreased prices as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and how much other hotel attributes influenced price reductions. Analysis of TripAdvisor data on 29 hotels in each of the six global destinations was performed. The linlog regression analysis determined there is a significant relationship between prices and hedonic attributes, such as cleanliness, location, and property amenities in certain destinations. The analysis also showed that prices have not fallen equally everywhere and there are differences in price predictors

    Are You Certain You Really Like Those Jeans You Are Wearing?: The Influence of Social Proof and Authority on a Product Evaluation

    Abstract The purchasing decisions of consumers have been reshaping rapidly, therefore, businesses need to implement a transitional approach to marketing and sales of the products and utilize the advantage of knowing what influences those purchasing decisions in order to achieve competitive advantage. This paper investigates the influence of social proof and authority on consumers’ evaluation of the product. A research was conducted in the form of an experiment in which three groups of participants were required to evaluate three glasses of identical wine. One group was a control group with no exerted influence while two other groups were experimental groups exposed to manipulation of social proof and authority. Results suggest that social proof and authority are positively correlated with the evaluation of the product while there is no significant influence of socio-demographic variables. The findings of the study can be applied in marketing and sales sectors and used as a tool to successfully influence decisions consumers make when buying the products

    Gender and Leadership in Tourism and Hospitality

    Tourism and hospitality industry are one of the biggest industries in the world that lack women in high managerial position. Even though women are dominating in hotel workforce (55.5%), they are still lead my men. According to Moran (1992, p.476) it is well-known that women are having difficulties making their way to high managerial position. Changes have been made throughout years, slowly, but there is still a place for improvement. Croatia is one among all those countries where the improvement is highly needed, as it makes only 6% of women in high managerial position. Interviews were conducted with seven women leaders from Dubrovnik, Croatia and with different work backgrounds. This method was used in order to find out why women are underrepresented in high managerial position. Results have shown very interesting facts about women and their way to the top. Further research needs to evaluate better leadership efficiency between genders

Certain certificates can improve the whole business and tourism branch overall in every country. The purpose of this paper and the study is to find out how many restaurant owners are aware of Halal certificate and how many of them are willing to have Halal certificate in non-Halal restaurants. The study is based on data collected from restaurant owners in Croatia, Dubrovnik. Previous findings based on this topic do not exist

    Travelers’ Perception of SMART Technologies in Hotel Industry

    Even though smart technologies are relatively new, they have a crucial role in businesses operations. This research was conducted with an intent to investigate which smart technologies are attractive to travelers and which are undesired to travelers. Hundred and twenty-five participants with previous experiences of smart technologies during their hotel stay were surveyed based on Kano’s model in order to measure attractiveness of smart technologies. Results suggest that travelers do not find smart technologies attractive in most circumstances as there are lots of privacy concerns

    How wine education can improve revenue in Dubrovnik restaurants?

    The aim of this research was to get a more profound understanding of the level of wine education in Dubrovnik restaurants and how education can be upgraded to boost revenue through wine sales. The literature review supported the initial idea that wine education does have a positive impact on revenue in restaurants. The most important findings were related to wine sales impacts on restaurant revenue, guest’s risk perception and methods to reduce risk, wine education outcomes and major challenges and wine customers analysis based on age and type. Since no similar studies were done on this topic in Dubrovnik restaurants, structured interview with two experienced industry professionals served as a benchmark for establishing the value of functional and productive wine training practices. The results showed importance of tailored wine education with partnerships, team support, flexibility and communication as most important variables for success. This study provides valuable findings for all FB professionals and restaurateurs in Dubrovnik

    Importance of Learning: Hospitality HR Managers' Viewpoint

    Many studies have proven how important and beneficial training and development is for managers because it improves their relationship with employees, and it could potentially lead to better performance of the company. This paper investigated training and development programs offered to managers in 4- and 5-star hotels in Dubrovnik and factors that influence their success in the hospitality industry. Five hotel companies participated in the questionnaire which measured their satisfaction with T&D programs and asked them to list programs their offer as well as rate importance of four factors for success of managers. Results suggested that HR Managers were overall satisfied with T&D programs with most common programs being leadership, communication, internal development programs and specific interest training. Additionally, work experience and T&D received at work were rated as most important factors for success of managers in the hospitality industry

    The Impact of COVID-19 on Pet-Friendly Tourism

    The pandemics of COVID-19 have immensely affected today’s world, and most businesses are either completely ruined or in the position to be reorganized and should adapt to the new circumstances. This can be especially seen in the sector of tourism and hospitality where many new regulations had to be applied to people who are traveling to prevent and set limitations to the spreading of the virus. The research has analyzed 20 hotels to find out if their current measures and policies have been changed due to the pandemics. The research used a content analysis method to investigate what changes have been introduced and to see if pet-friendly destinations in Dubrovnik have also implemented those measures. The research did not identify any new policies that are the result of the current situation, but has only found grounds for new measures and policies that could be recommended to pet-friendly destinations in Dubrovnik to improve the quality of the services they offer and to satisfy the needs of dog owners.     ANALYSIS OF NEGATIVE ONLINE REVIEWS AND RESPONSES IN DUBROVNIK BASED HOTELS

    Online reviews had been the basis for hotels to identify the potential service failure and to achieve service recovery. This paper investigates the areas that customers complain about, how often do hotels respond and what type of responses do hotels provide to complaining guests. A content analysis was done on Trip Advisor platform including one star rated reviews and responses in 15 Dubrovnik hotels. Results suggest that customers mostly complain about F&B and front desk attitude and customers get both Standardized and Personalized responses. Hotels could’ve been more successful in responding to customer reviews if they focused on having Personalized rather than Standardize responses
