Structure-reactivity relationships in CeO2-supported Cu catalysts: influence of formation, structure and stability of active sites on catalytic performance in preferential CO oxidation (PROX)
The preferential oxidation (PROX) of CO is an effective and practical strategy to reduce trace amounts of CO to a very low level (< 5 ppm) from the H2-rich stream used as fuel for proton exchange membrane fuel cells. Cu catalysts have been proven to be cheap alternatives to the costly noble metal-based catalysts due to their high activity, selectivity, and stability. However, most of the previous investigations used a higher Cu loading, normally more than 5 wt% preventing any reliable conclusions about the nature of the active sites (Cu single sites, dimmers, clusters and/or nanoparticles)
The glucokinase regulatory protein variants H438Y, M344I, P446L and M344I-P446L were analysed. The cellular localisation of GKRP fluorescence fusion proteins in HeLa and Hepa 1-6 cells was compared to the WT and the interaction strength with GK in primary hepatocytes was investigated. Furthermore, the altered glucose uptake and triglyceride synthesis of P446L and H438Y was analysed in Hepa 1-6 cells and the influence on the cellular localisation of GK was described. Finally, the structural changes of the variants were simulated using the PyMOL software
Beyond contractualism: analysis of the problem of international authority
This research study aims to look into what authority is in contrast to power and persuasion and how it becomes established in global governance. It focuses on the multiplication of authorities under the hypothesis that authority, its nature, functions, and grounds of legitimation have changed and developed over time. Thus, there are multiple and new authorities at play in global governance, which go beyond the state, the public-private authority constellation, and the simple command-and-obedience framework of solid authority
Thermal and photocatalytic C-C and C-N bond formation by atom-transfer radical additions and photocycloadditions
The content of this thesis is presented in three parts. In the first part, the radical functionalisation of biomass-derived 5-chloromethylfurfural (CMF) was described. In the second part, visible light-mediated triplet-sensitized [2+2] and [3+2] photocycloadditions of 2-cyanochromone with several alkenes were demonstrated using Iridium photocatalyst. The last part describes the a photocatalytic one-pot dehydrogenative Aza Paternò-Büchi reaction of dihydroquinoxalinones with substituted styrenes and acrylonitriles for the synthesis of diverse functionalised azetidine derivatives
The hippocampus plays a significant role in pathophysiological learning processes. Activity-dependent synaptic plasticity is a crucial neurophysiological requirement for hippocampal synapses. High-frequency magnetic stimulation (HFMS) can induce LTP effects. Priming hippocampal slice preparations with HFMS leads to enhanced increases in the activity of hippocampal synapses. Group 1 mGlu receptors (mGlu 1 and mGlu 5) influence HFMS-mediated metaplasticity. A distinct regulation of mGlu1 and mGlu5 is to be assumed
Arm energy balancing techniques for modular multilevel converter for both equal and unequal frequencies operations
This work investigates and presents many possible degrees of freedom and arm energies regulation techniques of MMC for both equal and unequal single-phase and three-phase system frequency operations. Only four average arm energy controllers are found to be possible, which do not inject harmonics into the source and load currents. Of these four methods, only two are stable for equal frequency operations. A new seven-arm direct AC-AC MMC topology is proposed to increase the converter's power density if the source does not allow reactive power flow for equal frequency operation of MMC
Three multilevel converter topologies with low-voltage Si-MOSFETs are designed in this work. These three topologies include the modular multilevel converter as well as the flying-capacitor and active-neutral-point-clamped multilevel converter. The focus of the design is the dimensioning of the MOSFET and the capacitors of the multilevel converter topologies at the nominal operating point. Following the design, the topologies are compared quantitatively. Finally, the most promising multilevel converter topology is compared with an existing two-point converter
