The sense of smell and touch as non-visual stimuli in artistic activities among early and preschool children
It is known that fine arts are omnipresent in many areas of human lives, as well as in childhood. Children’s artistic expression should be encouraged in many ways because art activites bring many benefits. In the begining of this paper, the importance of providing a stimulating environment in artistic expression will be discused, as well as many benefits of art activities for children. Kindergarten teachers have an important role in creating a stimulating environment for children, and sholud implement many sensors into art activities. It is possible to encourage art activities trought visual or non-visual elements. This paper will pay special attention to non-visual incentive, but will however discuss non-visual incentive that is connected with the sense of touch and smell. In the last part of paper, children's art works based on visual and non-visual stimuli, will be analysed. The analysis will be conducted in order to achieve the research goals. Research goal is to determine whether non-visual stimuli could be motivating enough to encourage children to express themselves artistically. In addition to the primarly goal, it will be analysed how children paint with watercolor, according to the type of incentive
Wiesner's "Three Pigs" with Young Learners
Contemporary picturebooks have become a focus of interest for researchers in numerous fields of study. Their potential is being recognised by educators, psychologists, and artists alike, as picturebook authors are continuously finding new ways to cross established boundaries and impress both adults and children. This thesis examines their increasing complexity, as well as
children’s astonishing power to interpret them and thus challenge adults’ stereotypes about their abilities. The first part of the study was conducted in the form of a questionnaire for pre-service and in-service primary school teachers, with a focus on their attitudes towards employing picturebooks in the classroom. The second part included a read-aloud session of David Wiesner’s Three Pigs (2001) with six 4th grade pupils in one primary school in Zagreb. The audio-recording of the session was transcribed, and data collected from both studies was analysed qualitatively. The results showed that, despite the attitudes of pre-service and inservice teachers, who believed that picturebooks were generally simple and most appropriate for pre-schoolers and young learners, children who are at the very end of their lower primary education were both entertained and motivated to make cognitive efforts to interpret the text. They engaged with the picturebook on a personal, analytical, intertextual, and performative level (Sipe, 2008b), and exhibited a great amount of pleasure in doing so.Suvremene slikovnice postaju sve relevantnija tema za različite istraživače.
Attitudes and Knowledge of Preschool Education Students About Child Abuse
Ispitanici i metode. Prospektivnim istraživanjem obuhvaćeni su redovni studenti prve i treće godine preddiplomskoga studija Ranog i predškolskog odgoja i obrazovanja Učiteljskog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu.
Aim of the study is to determine the attitudes and knowledge about child abuse of students of the first and third year of Early and Preschool Education at the University of Zagreb. Child abuse includes physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse and neglect of children which is a specific form of abuse.
Subjects and methods. The prospective study includes full-time students of the first and third year of the undergraduate university study of Early and Preschool Education at the Faculty of Teacher Education at the University of Zagreb. From the first year, 53 (58.9%) out of 90 students participated, and from the third year, 56 (69.1%) out of 81 students participated making the total coverage 109 (63.7%) out of 171 students of the school year 2020/2021. After informed consent at the outset, the survey was conducted by an online survey questionnaire on respondents’ knowledge and attitudes about child abuse and neglect. The questionnaire was created via the Google Forms online service. In statistical processing the 2 test for independent samples was used for the observed frequencies along with the Yates correction when the observed frequencies were less than 5 in any field. The nonparametric Mann Whitney U-test was used to test the differences between the two groups.
Results. The attitudes of first- and third-year students of Early and Preschool Education about child neglect and abuse differ in a way in which third-year students believe that an insufficient number of courses at the Faculty of Teacher Education is devoted to child abuse and neglect, while first-year students believe that the number of courses and attention that are being devoted to abuse are sufficient. There are no differences among subjects about other attitudes regarding child abuse and all subjects are well aware of the legal obligation to report child abuse and neglect.
Conclusion. It can be concluded that the first- and third-year students are well informed about child abuse and neglect and that, in the opinion of third-year students, more attention should be paid to the content of child abuse and neglect in the undergraduate curriculum of Early and Preschool Education at the University of Zagreb
Kinesiological activities and students' free time
The modern era and the evolution of science and technology are seriously affecting the everyday life, especially when it comes to children and adolescents. Many diseases that start at a young age are caused by sedentary lifestyle. A majority of research shows that today's children spend their free time in front of screens, searching the internet or social networks, and playing games.
The main objective of this thesis was to determine how often do lower primary school children of one school in Krapinsko-zagorska županija play a sport or engage in any other kind of physical activity. Also, another objective was to see what kind od physical activity do children engage in according to the gender, and to establish in they participate in any additional or extracurricular activities. 128 children participated in this research, of whom 63 boys and 65 girls. They had to fill ina n anonymus. The results show that 36,51% boys and 20% girls engage in some ohysical activity in their free time. Around 50% boys and girls are physically active more than twice a week. Having considered all types of sports, it can be said that boys mostly play football, while girls prefer cycling, roller skating and other activities like running, dancing, etc. When it comes to extracurricular activities, children like activities that are not connected to kinesiology, e.g. stage, art and language groups. The most alarming fact is that a majority of children does not engage in any type of extracurricular activities. In addition, the only type physical activties that are offered is the rhytmic group, which they can attend only ih the fourth grade
Instructing students of education degree on music-performing skills
This thesis deals with the ways of teaching music performance skills on the faculties of Teacher education in the Republic of Croatia. Furthermore, it deals with the teaching of Music in primary schools and the development of competencies in music education of future teachers. The thesis itself is divided into two parts, the theoretical and the empirical part. The theoretical part of the thesis brings the basic concepts important for the understanding and organization of Music teaching in music and primary schools. Moreover, the description of the subject Music is given which is followed by the educational goals of the subject Music. At last, it explains what teacher education is like in the field of music-performing skills and that includes playing skills and musical literacy. For the purposes of understanding the way of teaching music-performing skills to students of teacher education in the Republic of Croatia, a comparison of study descriptions of subjects for the courses Music Practicum / Playing / Instrumental and Vocal-Instrumental practicum was made. The development of competencies in music education of future teachers is explained in more detail, with a review of previous research on music teaching in primary school.
The second part of the thesis presents the results of research in an online format on a sample (N = 109) of students in the 4th and 5th year of Teacher education in the Republic of Croatia. The aim of the research was to examine the opinion of students in the 4th and 5th year students of faculties of Teacher education in the Republic of Croatia and their satisfaction with the way of teaching a musical instrument during their studies. Furthermore, the justification of the ECTS credits concerning the course Music Practicum was examined alongside the attitudes and experiences of students related to the skills of playing and singing. Based on the obtained research results, it can be concluded that the students are mostly satisfied with the way of teaching a musical instrument during their studies and that they feel competent when they play a musical instrument in the Music class. However, most respondents believe that the number of ECTS credit of the Music Practicum / Playing / Instrumental and Vocal-Instrumental practicum do not justify its difficulty. It was found that students would feel even safer and more competent to play a musical instrument in class if the hourly rate of the Music Practicum was increased or when vocal-instrumental classes would be conducted throughout their studies
Small Dictionary of Mraclin's Speech
We are all witnesses to modernization, first and foremostly the technological kind, which in the last few years has taken the world by storm, changing our habits, customs and language. Due to this phenomenon it is worth mentioning the little town of Mraclin, which with its 1000 inhabitants geographically belongs to the greater area of Velika Gorica. The mere fact that
Mraclin is situated very close to the capital of Croatia, just 15 kilometeres away, adds weight to the fact that even today people from Mraclin are both creators of and witnesses to not only their specific dialect, but also their customs and traditions. Given that my family roots also stem from this town, the goal of this thesis work is oriented towards a passion for preserving the Mraclin dialect and to spread its awareness to the general public. For this reason this paper is divided into two parts: the first deals with the geographical and historical origins of the town, while the second part presents the dialect that is proudly used by people from Mraclin even today, through a vocabulary which consists of verified sentences and translations
Social Understimation Of Teachers - Content Analysis Of Social Networks And Teacher Survey
Nisu svi bili zadovoljni razvojem situacije, zbog čega su i roditelji i učitelji, neki u većoj, a neki u manjoj mjeri izražavali nezadovoljstvo.
In the last year, due to the current pandemic, all participants in the educational process have found themselves in front of new ways of teaching for which they were more or less ready. The transition to online teaching has become a new way of teaching students, making their home a new classroom. Teachers had to cope with the ways of teaching students in different ways, and students, together with teachers and parents, had to adapt to this. Not everyone was satisfied with the development of the situation, which is why both parents and teachers, some to a greater extent and some to a lesser extent, expressed dissatisfaction. Since we live in the modern age, when we are all interconnected social networks, dissatisfaction has been expressed through social networks. Reading and listening to comments about teachers calls into question the state of the teaching profession in society.
The theoretical part of the paper discusses the status of teachers in society, teachers 'satisfaction with their work and material working conditions in school, as well as the students' computer literacy, which was a major factor in independent participation in distance learning. There is also talk about the jobs of teachers (primary school teachers, subject teachers, extended stay teachers).
The importance of cooperation between parents, teachers and the school is also stated, as well as the extent to which this affects the success of students. They talk about distance education, the opportunities offered by the Republic of Croatia to make this transition as easy as possible, and how the participants in the educational process were satisfied with it. Furthermore, the paper presents an analysis of the content of social networks with examples of comments, methodologies and results of the research. The research aimed to examine what teachers themselves who expressed their opinions through an online survey think about the general social underestimation and the underestimation of social networks. 672 teachers participated in the survey (N = 672) and according to the obtained results, the surveyed teachers, regardless of their work experience, type of employment and the type of class in which they work, consider that they are generally underestimated as well as underestimated on social networks
Experience fairy tales through graphic techniques
Odgojitelj utječe na razvoj dječje kreativnosti stavljajući pred njih situacije i zadatke u kojima imaju priliku pokazati snalažljivost i spretnost u pronalaženju kreativnih rješenja. The aim and purpose of the thesis is to investigate the impact of fairy tales on art in children of early and preschool age. The paper is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part is based on the definitions of a fairy tale, historical development and the division of a fairy tale into a folk tale, an artistic fairy tale and a fantastic story. A fairy tale is a literary genre in which the real is mixed with the miraculous, the real with the unreal, without causing confusion, misunderstanding or astonishment. The world in fairy tales does not amaze but through an enchanted forest with fairies, dwarves, giants and witches lead the child through growing up. The second part of the theoretical part refers to the development of artistic creativity in children and the stages of artistic development and the role of educators in encouraging it. The emphasis is on graphic techniques, types of printing and their application in preschool institutions. Children's artistic creativity is an innate ability that should be encouraged, which is one of the tasks of educators. The educator influences the development of children's creativity by putting in front of them situations and tasks in which they have the opportunity to show resourcefulness and dexterity in finding creative solutions. The child perceives artistic creation as a spontaneous game, and the connection between play and creativity has a positive effect on the development of his competencies. In the practical part, the research "Experience of a fairy tale through graphic techniques" is presented with the aim of encouraging children's artistic creativity in the field of graphics. Research questions sought to examine the extent to which the offered fairy tale aroused children's interest in art and the appropriateness of the chosen technique with regard to the fairy tale and with regard to the age of the child
Consumerism in media texts exemplified in the animated film "Frozen"
This paper deals with two phenomena – the phenomenon of consumerism and the phenomenon of the film Frozen. Consumerism is an ideology that negotiates a consumerist way of life and assumes that an individual’s happiness is proportional to his consumption and possession. Consumerism affects all age groups, including children who, due to the influence of the media become mass consumers very early. Children are exposed daily to promotional messages urging them to buy their products and services. Marketing experts have recognized that children are the most vulnerable group and that it is extremely profitable to direct marketing towards them. One of the most lucrative marketing of this type is that in animated films. The best example of this is the production company Walt Disney and their film Frozen, which broke all records and earned large amounts of money based on its franchise. Children identify themselves with character from the film and want to own anything related to their favorite characters. Parents usually satisfy their wishes as an attempt to compensate for the insufficient amount of time spent together. In this way, children from an early age become “slaves” of consumerism and buy only to satisfy their hedonistic desires. In order to protect children from consumerism, cooperation between parents and educators is needed. It is necessary to point out the positive sides of the media to children and help them develop critical thinking in order for them not to become easy targets of media manipulation
Design of kindergarten space in the light of Waldorf pedagogy
This paper sheds light on aspects of the Waldorf kindergarten design - how these aspects are related to the image of man in the light of anthroposophy and whether there is a real connection between the Waldorf kindergarten design and growth, and development of children.
Methodology and didactics of Waldorf pedagogy, as well as spatial planning, are based on anthroposophy - spiritual teaching founded by Rudolf Steiner. The first part of the paper therefore presents the basic Rudolf Steiner's postulates through anthroposophy, and then the basic pedagogical principles of Waldorf pedagogy as a pedagogy born of anthroposophy. The second part of the paper presents the specific visual arts of Waldorf pedagogy, as a part of artistic expression that is pervasive in Waldorf pedagogy. It also questions whether the arrangement of a Waldorf kindergarten directly unfolds from fine arts.
The basic settings of interior architecture based on Waldorf pedagogy, designed by Rudolf Steiner himself, are also described. Finally, the connection between rhythm and arrangement of space is presented, as well as the spiritual background of rhythmic events that we make children aware of through the space that surrounds them. This is shown through the rhythm of the year and the festivals.
Integrity and connection are the fundamental thought of Waldorf pedagogy. They are also in the foundations of the arrangement of the Waldorf kindergarten space. Today they are perhaps more relevant in the design of the kindergarten space than ever before
