Emotional competence includes emotional and social skills that affect the way a person experiences, expresses and regulates his/her own emotions. People with higher emotional intelligence can easily identify their emotional state and better understand how their emotions relate to their behavior and affect their daily lives. In addition, people with higher emotional intelligence are more likely to recognize and distinguish the emotions of others. People who better understand, express and control their emotions also better adapt to new and unpredictable situations, which is extremely important in the current circumstances of the pandemic, but also the earthquakes that happened in Croatia. Emotional competence is important for various aspects of an individual's life, such as academic or professional, and interpersonal relationships in general. The aim of this research was to explore the association between emotional competence and some aspects of academic success, such as involvement in study assignments, goal orientations, academic self-concept and study success. The research involved 248 students from different universities in Croatia, aged 19 to 42 years, and data were collected by an online questionnaire. The results indicated that students with a higher level of emotional competence have higher average scores on measures of affective and cognitive-behavioral involvement in study assignments and higher average assessments of academic self-perception and better academic achievement. On the other hand, no differences were obtained in the expression of task orientations with the level of emotional competence. The paper also examined whether there are certain differences between students with higher and lower levels of emotional competence in experiencing some specifics related to the previous academic year, during which classes due to the Covid-19 pandemic were mostly held online and during which 86% of students in the sample experienced earthquakes. The obtained results indicated that students with a higher level of emotional competence perceive that in the conditions of online studying, they are more successful in fulfilling obligations related to the faculty, but also that they experienced earthquakes as a more stressful event compared to students with a lower level of emotional competence

This paper covers the topic of translation in primary school ESL classes and students’ attitudes towards it. Translation in language learning classes is sometimes a controversial topic. The first association to translation in language learning classes can be the grammar-translation method, which used to be the dominant method of teaching languages. Because of that, an aversion toward translation in ESL classes has spread among English teachers. However, translation activities used in ESL classes can be much more than the grammar-translation method, as long as the teachers adjust them to their students’ age and proficiency. Opinions on using translation in English classes are divided, which is what motivated this research. The aim of this paper was to research the attitudes of primary school students towards translation as well as their proficiency in it. The research was conducted in a primary school in Zagreb. 42 sixth-grade students participated in the research. The research consisted of two short translation tasks, one from Croatian into English and one from English into Croatian. After completing the translation tasks, the students answered a questionnaire. The students were mostly more successful in the translation of the English text, but they also found it to be more difficult. However, the opinions on what was more difficult were quite divided. While the total number of achieved points was higher for the translation of the English text, the students acquired more points for vocabulary in the translation of the Croatian text. More students expressed a positive attitude towards translation and those students achieved better results than the ones who expressed a negative attitude. However, without further research, it is difficult to conclude what is the cause and what is the result.

In the lower grades of primary school, reading, literature and creativity are the basic parts of teaching the Croatian language. This diploma thesis describes the system of reading, literature, relatively children's literature and creativity for creative tasks in Croatian language teaching. Pupils from 1st to 4th grade of primary school regularly encounter reading works, and this thesis deals mainly with the description of reading lessons, the structure of the reading lesson and students' creativity. However, in order for a reading lesson to be successful, it is necessary to start from the importance of reading and developing reading habits in pupils of this age group, which I discuss in the first part of this thesis. Furthermore, reading is an integral part of literature, so we will talk about literature and its adaptation to children's age. Creative tasks that encourage student creativity depend on the knowledge and abilities of the teacher. For the purpose of this dissertation, I held a block class of Peter Pan reading by James Matthew Barrie. The experience and knowledge I have gained will be presented at the end of this thesis, in the research part of the paper. I will also present my goals and experiences and present pupil work

Glazba i govor imaju zajedničke karakteristike i vrednote. The topic of this paper is music intervention in operating with children with speech difficulties in primary education. Students with speech and language difficulties are included in regular or adapted teaching programs in regular elementary schools. In order for the integration and inclusion of students with speech and language difficulties to be as successful as possible, competence, expertise and professionalism are expected from teachers. The use of music as a media in regular classes, rehabilitation or therapy can have a positive effect on a person. Music and speech have common characteristics and values. Therefore, the aim of the paper is to present the types of speech difficulties that can occur in primary education students, and music therapy methods that can be used to alleviate and improve speech problems are presented. The possibility of an extracurricular activity is also presented, with the help of musical activities, it is possible to have a therapeutic effect on speech difficulties. The cooperation of teachers, parents and professional services is extremely important for the quality progress of students, and with additional education a teacher can become a music therapist and thus actively participate in the recognition, referral to rehabilitation and the actual rehabilitation of a child with speech difficulties

In this thesis, research was conducted on the application of information and communication technology in education. The concept of information and communication technology in this paper is considered digital equipment as tablets, laptops, computers and all digital tools that can be used to improve teaching. Through this work, the required answers to the set hypotheses were obtained with survey questionnaire. Information and communication technology is an huge part of live and affects on all aspects of human life, although no one is aware of it. It is hard today to imagine life without technology that makes life so much easier. But like everything in life, technology has its positive sides and its negative things. Looking back fifteen years, one can see how information and communication technology has greatly influenced the field of schooling and education. No one could have imagined that smart boards would replace "green boards", that the overhead projector would be replaced by a projector, that children in school would practice and repeat on tablets. It could be said that information and communication technology in education came to the fore during the COVID-19 pandemic, when all teachers, professors and students were forced to move from their physical classrooms to virtual classrooms. Teachers and professors were forced to handle information and communication technology, although they may never have used certain tools

The potential of comics in the classroom is underrepresented. In recent years, there is research showing that comics opens new doors to the beginnings of motivating children's reading, which restores hope for greater representation of comics in the classroom. This will create new potential for the comic to spread interest in further reading. Comics have so far been seen only for their comical character, without looking at them as a potential for some deeper themes and a way to motivate them to read. A good and diverse reader becomes gradual, so the teachers should carefully plan how to bring the topic and work closer to the students without creating resistance. The inclusion of comics in the classroom will enrich student’s future media literacy, and by comparing the series Hilda and Višnja’s Diary in this work, we will expand our current view on the difference between the two series and their appropriateness in classroom use

This thesis examined the influence of medieval folk music on children's creation as a way of expression. Music has always been present in the life of men and this research wanted to show how the children will react to the music of the Medieval age. This thesis briefly describes Medieval age through its basic features, then through the music of the era, dance and the human perception of colors and their meaning. The goal of this thesis was to prove the significance of different types of compositions that should be present in early preschool education. The research methods which were used to present the topic were theatre as a motivation and introduction to the topic, painting on a sheet, medieval dance, discussion where every child could express their opinion and a story that has been passed for many years. One group of preschool children aged between six and seven participated in the research. Through artistic contents, Medieval age was shown and described to the group with all of its features. Artistic expression is an important part of growing up and it is important that the children are offered many occasions to develop it. Children's way of expression was observed and encouraged, verbally as in non-verbally. Their choice of color and shapes was carefully observed during the art project of painting on a sheet. The children were happy because they had the possibility of choosing what they want to paint and they liked the group activity. It is necessary to work more on motor skills and balance with children and preschool facilities should include more dancing to encourage correct body posture, but also creation and rhythm. That would encourage positive atmospfere among the group, but also better overall mood of every child. The results of the research showed a great interest in Medieval age and the music of that time

The foot builds the basis of human anatomy and its locomotor system. It acts statically and dynamically while, depending on the dynamics of the human body. Throughout human evolution, the foot underwent anatomical changes adapting to the environment and lifestyle. Modern man adopted a sedentary lifestyle to a large extent, which impairs his motor skills and health. Flat foot (pes planus) is the most common deformity of the lower extremities today. It is caused by the loosening of the arch, weakening of the muscles and the bone-ligament complex. It occurs regardless of age, but mostly in children who are in the phase of accelerated growth and development. The causes of foot deformities can be hereditary circumstances, body constitution and too little movement. If the arch of the foot is completely lowered, it is called a flat foot. The status of the feet in adults and children can be diagnosed with various instruments and methods. Many studies deal with the subject of flat foot in children with the aim of linking the causes of the deformity. This paper aims to investigate possible influence of gender and body weight on flat foot in preschool children. The research was conducted in a preschool institucion in the city of Zagreb. It includes 64 respondents, aged 6 to 7 years (30 boys and 34 girls). Children's footprints were obtained by a podographer, after which they were qualified by Mayer's method. Anthropometric measurements were performed by measuring body weight and body height within the preschool facilities. The data are presented in graphs and statistically processed with the Chi-square test. The results of the research proved the thesis that there is no influence of gender on flat foot in preschool children, nor that there is an influence of body weight. Out of 64 samples, Out of 64 samples, 37% showed flat foot deformity (47% of boys and 27% of girls). The body mass index in flat foot showed an average of 16.32 in girls and 15.42 in boys. A box plot graph shows the dispersion of the entered data, for both genders together and individually for each. The Chi-square test confirmed the thesis that there is no significant statistical difference between the gender and foot status, and this thesis research by Fung, Dias Ismiarto and Mayasari (2017) and research by Kahile, Deshmukh, Muley and Suryawanshi (2020). The thesis that there is no significant statistical difference between the nutritional status of the children and the status of the feet was also confirmed

time i neizbježan dio dječje svakodnevnice. Technological devices such as tablets, smartphones and others are part of almost every household, and therefore an inevitable part of children's everyday life. Current leading guidelines on physical activity and screen time for preschool children recommend at least 120 minutes of physical activity per day and exposure to program content for no more than an hour per day. The aim of this final paper was to examine whether there is a negative impact of the availability of technology on the physical activity of preschool children. The collected data was obtained by the method of a survey that was shared on the social network Facebook, 30 respondents who have children aged 5-7 years participated in the research. The obtained results point to preschool children growing up in media-saturated households with more electronic devices. Although they have at their disposal various devices that belong to traditional and new media, the research recorded to the greatest extent the respect of general recommendations and guidelines for preschool children regarding physical activity and screen time. According to the obtained results, it cannot be concluded that the availability of technology has a negative effect on the physical activity of preschool children, because according to the research results, the time spent in free play and outdoor activities exceeds the recommended guidelines. Although they have access to various technological devices, outdoor recreational activities such as walking and sports games are the most common choices for joint free time of children and parents. Furthermore, children of almost half of the respondents participate in additional sports activities. Although the results of the research are not devastating, it is the period of early childhood, i.e. preschool age, that is considered a critical period for the adoption of healthy life habits. It is extremely important to encourage and nurture a love for physical activity from an early age, and it will result in positive health outcomes that can be followed even in adulthood

Program prevencije pretilosti treba educirati djecu i roditelje o stvaranju zdravih navika i važnosti bavljenja tjelesnom aktivnosti.Obesity is a chronic disease that has taken on the characteristics of a global pandemic over the last ten years, both among adults and children.
