Poetics in James Norbury's works: Big Panda and Tiny Dragon and The Journey: Big Panda and Tiny Dragon
This paper deals with James Norbury's picture books Big Panda and Tiny Dragon and The Journey: Big Panda and Tiny Dragon. The goal is to present the author, his poetics of expressing his life philosophy, the themes of books and the underlying motifs that can be found in them, describe the characters and their roles in the stories and analiyse the language style of these two books. I will describe Buddhism, what influence Buddhist philosophy had on the author when he created the characters and their attitude towards situations, what is the difference between East and West poetics, what is the relationship between illustration and text and why is illustration important these books. I will touch on various stylistic figures and describe their influence on the text, as well as explore the history of pandas and dragons to find out whether the characters of Panda and Dragon correspond to the historical idea of these (mystical) animals. The conclusion related to these picture books is that they would be useful for educators when working with children because they model the behavior of a teacher who slowly leads his student to the goal without directly telling him where to go
Correlation of physical activity levels of parents and preschool children
Doista, rezultati istraživanja pokazuju kako najveći udio djece s visokom razinom tjelesne aktivnosti pripada roditeljima s visokom razinom TA. Također, analizom rezultata zaključuje se kako se i roditelji i njihova djeca pridržavaju smjernica SZO-a.This paper explores the topic of physical activity of parents and their children of early and preschool age and examines their mutual influence. The research participants were parents (N=75) and their children of early and preschool age (N=75) from 2 to 7 years of age. This thesis aimed to investigate the connection between the level of physical activity of parents and the level of physical activity of their children, i.e. whether the level of physical activity of parents affects the level of physical activity of their child. In addition, the goal was to examine whether parents and children adhere to official recommendations on the appropriate weekly amount of physical activity. Accordingly, two international questionnaires were used, one intended for parents, and the other for children of early and preschool age: IPAQ-SF (International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short form) and CPAQ (The children's Physical Activity Questionnaire). Indeed, the research results show that the largest share of children with a high level of physical activity belongs to parents with a high level of physical activity. Furthermore, from the result analysis, it is concluded that both parents and their children adhere to WHO guidelines
The Potential of Digital Photography in Kindergarten according to Research conducted in Virovitica Kindergarten "Cvrčak"
Speaking is the most effective communication tool that can be acquired and continuously improved. Over the centuries, civilizational advances, innovations and technological advances have allowed us to develop ways of communicating. However, one thing from antiquity has remained the same to this day – the art of beautiful, purposeful and convincing speech. Persuasion can be defined as a form of communication in which rational means (arguments, information) seek to influence action, judgments, attitudes and beliefs. We encounter persuasion on a daily basis in daily activities, education, at work and in schools. This paper discusses persuasion, its application, and strategies; persuasion speech in everyday life and the personality traits of a good persuader, the influence of persuasion, and the techniques used by salespeople. In addition, there is talk of childhood commercialization. Children are often the face of marketing campaigns of well-known brands and often appear in the media. The question arises as to how storytelling and marketing campaigns affect children and their behavioral and communication skills. Designed kindergarten activities help introduce children to advertising through the use of digital photography and teach children how to use digital camera
The frequency of physical and health education classes in preschool institutions
Primarni cilj ovoga rada jest utvrđivanje učestalosti provođenja sati tjelesne i zdravstvene kulture. 39,3% ispitanika tjelesnu i zdravstvenu kulturu provodi jednom ili niti jednom tjedno, a njih 30,8% tjelesnu i zdravstvenu kulturu provode dva puta tjedno. The primary goal of this study is to determine the frequency of physical and health education. The research was conducted on a sample of 107 educators. The questionnaire included questions about the frequency of conducting physical and health education classes, reasons for any non-implementation, and questions about morning exercise. 39.3% of the respondents conduct physical and health education once a week or less, while 30.8% of them do so twice a week. The main reason for not conducting physical and health education classes is cited as a lack of space for exercise, resources, and equipment
Challenges of modern parenting of preschool children
Given the many changes that have taken place in society over the past few years. They also influenced changes in the term child, family and parenthood. This paper will consider the characteristics of modern parenting and the challenges and phenomena that come with it. Parenthood is defined with regard to the rights of the child and the rights and responsibilities that the parent has towards him. It is difficult to meet the demands of modern upbringing if parental knowledge and skills are based on the heritage of one's own parents. A competent parent knows the child's developmental needs, provides quality upbringing, knows how to choose appropriate extra-family influences for his child, understands the importance and is capable of developing a partnership with those outside the family who take care of his child, raise him and educate him. In today's age, parenting is more demanding than ever before because parents are aware of the complexity of the parental role and the consequences that good, but on the other hand, inappropriate and inadequate upbringing and education have on children. The challenges of modern parenting can be answered through cooperation, education of society and parents in the interest and for the benefit of the child
The Opinion Of Students Of Medical And Education Studies On The Application And Knowledge Of Sign Language
Sign language is the natural and native language of deaf people, just as each person communicates best in their own language, so deaf people communicate most successfully in sign language. It is a system of signs whose plan of expression is visual-spatial, visual-manual. Language is realized using the upper body and hands, as well as facial expressions and gestures. Deafness can be registered at several levels, such as hereditary deafness, deafness acquired through a disease or injury, congenital deafness. It is important to find out whether the deafness occurred before or after the birth of the child. Deafness can be complete or incomplete, depending on the intensity of a greater or lesser degree. According to severity, hearing impairments are divided into hard of hearing and deafness. Functionally, the important difference between these two categories is that hard-of-hearing people receive speech predominantly by listening, and deaf people predominantly by sight, that is, by reading from the mouth, with the use of a hearing aid
For the purpose of this paper, the opinions of students of educational and health studies were collected on the statements related to sign language, deaf and hard of hearing people, as well as on the inclusion of deaf and hard of hearing children in educational institutions such as kindergartens and elementary schools. The questionnaire was completed by students of educational and health studies from the Republic of Croatia. The results of the conducted research indicate that the majority of respondents have encountered sign language and deaf people during their education. A large number of respondents consider that it is very important to include deaf and hard of hearing children into the programmes of educational system from an early age, as well as to enable them to work with the experts in the fields of speech and language pathology and rehabilitation, who will help them to progress, and improve and facilitate their and their parents’ future lives
Differences in aggressive and prosocial behavior in children regarding their age and gender
The aim of this research was to investigate the differences in aggressive and prosocial behavior in preschool children in relation to age and gender. 107 preschool teachers from different districts of Croatia participated in the survey. The educators assessed the aggressive and prosocial behavior of a child from the educational group using the Scale for the Assessment of Aggressiveness and Prosocial Behavior in Children (Žužul and Vlahović-Štetić, 1992). The test results are partially consistent with previous research. Namely, it has been confirmed that aggressiveness is more common in nursery children than in kindergarten-age children. The reason for this is that older children are cognitively and emotionally more developed and are able to express their feelings in a socially acceptable way. Kindergarten-age children, on the other hand, are not yet able to express their feelings verbally or emotionally as they should. This leads to frustration, which often manifests itself in tantrums. This is precisely why aggression is more pronounced in younger children. When analyzing the results, gender differences in aggression were also found. Boys show aggression more often than girls. As for prosocial behavior, the survey confirmed that it increases with age, i.e. it is more pronounced in children of kindergarten age. According to the survey, the older children are, the greater their need to help someone and comfort them if necessary, and they feel compassion for that person. Previous research has found that prosocial behavior is more pronounced in girls than in boys. However, this research did not confirm a significant gender difference in prosocial behavior in preschool children. Research has established that aggressive and prosocial behavior are interrelated. In fact, it is evident that the level of aggressiveness in children decreases when the level of prosocial behavior increases and vice versa
A Child with Asperger' s Syndrome in Preschool Age
Asperger's syndrome is one of the disorders within the autism spectrum.
It is characterized by a lack of social and communication skills and an unusually narrow area of interest, along with the presence of stereotyped forms of behavior.
This condition is specific due to the absence of significant problems in verbal development, often times showing average or above average intellectual abilities. The classification has changed throughout history. Nowadays, Asperger's syndrome belongs to the category of autism spectrum disorders. Asperger's syndrome is most often diagnosed in childhood, but it can also be diagnosed in adulthood. It is important to identify Asperger's syndrome early on since improved language skills, social interactions, and improved behavioral adaptation results in a reduction of unwanted forms of behavior, making it difficult to diagnose the disease later on.
It is of outmost importance that educators, specialists, and rehabilitators are educated about this syndrome so that they know how to approach the child with a sufficient level of understanding. There exist various therapeutic methods of support that help in the inclusion of the child in the educational system, and some of them are listed in this paper. An important moment for parents is the moment when they face the diagnosis, because at that moment they have to learn to adapt to the child.
Therefore, it is important that parents also receive and feel the support and understanding of experts
The influence of sports on the motor development of preschool children
Uključivanje djece rane dobi u sport doprinosi njihovom fizičkom i psihičkom zdravlju. Involving children in sports at an early age contributes to their physical and mental health. The motor skills that a child develops during childhood greatly influence his abilities later in life. Although it is known that physical activity is one of the most important factors for the healthy development of children, some studies show that more and more children are insufficiently active, which results in obesity and numerous other health losses. It is extremely important to educate parents and educators about the importance of sports, how it contributes to a better quality of life, and what benefits children achieve by engaging in physical activity or sports. Therefore, the goal of this research was to determine the current state of motor skills of preschool children and whether there is a difference in the motor skills of children who play sports and those who do not play any sport. 40 respondents, i.e. children from a kindergarten in Zagreb between the ages of 5 and 6.5, participated in the research. Within the research, an affirmative hypothesis was put forward, which shows that there are differences in motor skills between preschool children who play sports and those who do not, in favor of those who play sports. This hypothesis was partially confirmed due to the fact that the child athletes showed better motor skills in 4 measured variables, namely: back bend polygon (MKPN), sit-ups in 30 seconds (MST30), standing long jump (MSDM) and hand tapping (MBTR). In the two measured variables, the results show that there is no statistically significant difference between athletes and non-athletes, namely: standing on one leg on a cube (MRSJNK) and torso forward bend (MFSR). Although it was shown in the two measured variables that statistically there is no big difference between athletes and non athletes, the results were still better for athletes, which proves that sports undoubtedly influence children's motor skills
and that adults should encourage children whenever possible to enroll in sports or to any physical activity
"What have we learned from the history of pedagogy?: Ideas of important pedagogues in today's schools"
Isto tako, zaključena je i razlika u učestalosti primjenjivanja iskustvenog učenja između učitelja s više od 20 godina radnog iskustva i onih sa manje od 10.The history of pedagogy, regardless of its relatively short history, brings with it a multitude of messages, knowledge and ideas of pedagogues who marked, each in their own way, the direction of progress of pedagogy as a science. These components are the subject of this work. At the beginning of this thesis there is a historical overview of pedagogy, from the first communities up to the modern period in which we are currently living, followed by descriptions of the pedagogical influence of some of the most important people who created the foundations of the further development of science: Socrates, Jan Amos Komensky, Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi, John Dewey and Maria Montessori. The main messages of those pedagogues are summerized and described in the following chapter, and are related to dialogue, learning from simpler to more complex, accordance of cognitive, affective and psychomotor development of students, experiential learning and a positive learning environment and atmosphere. The last part of the thesis is reserved for the description of empirical research, the goal of which is to determine whether and to what extent these key ideas of the mentioned pedagogues are present in contemporary schools in the Republic of Croatia. 80 primary school teachers took part in the research through an anonymous Google Forms questionnaire, which consisted of questions about the importance and frequency of applying ideas and specifying key teaching situations from practice in which they are visible. The results of the research show that teachers consider each of the listed components to be very important, with dialogue being the most important and experiential learning the least necessary. In terms of frequency, teachers pay the most attention to providing a positive learning environment and atmosphere, while again the least to experiential learning. The research confirmed that there is little connection in the opinion about the importance of using experiential learning among teachers who work in larger schools (more than 700 students) and those who work in smaller ones (less than 400 students). Likewise, a difference in the frequency of application of experiential learning was concluded between teachers with more than 20 years of work experience and those with less than 10
