The market functioning of Polish Higher Education Institutions in the context of the implementation of the concept of Social Responsibility
Get PDFThe evolution in the sector set new tasks for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs)*, where — in addition to
educational activity — their cooperation with other entities is assumed, which will make it possible to take up
contemporary challenges. One of these is University Social Responsibility (USR)*, the popularity of which is
growing; however, this area is not sufficiently recognized in the relevant literature. This fact was an important
premise for undertaking research to assess the current state of the higher education sector in the context of the
implementation of the concept of social responsibility. The purpose of the paper is to show students' opinions on
the implementation of USR by HEIs and their knowledge of SR. The author's intention is to present the results of
her own research. The material obtained in the course of the survey showed that the symptoms of the adaptation
of the concept of Social Responsibility (SR)* to HEI management were identified, but the degree of their
involvement in this area is insufficient, as is the level of students' knowledge in the field of SR. The exploratory
research referred to in this article is an introduction to a broader scope of research
Quasi-static and dynamic compressive behaviorof Gum Metal: experiment and constitutive model
Get PDFThe quasi-static and high strain rate compressive behavior of Gum Metal with composition Ti-36Nb-Ta-3Zr-0.3O (wt pct) has been investigated using an electromechanical testing machine and a split Hopkinson pressure bar, respectively. The stress–strain curves obtained for Gum Metal tested under monotonic and dynamic loadings revealed a strain-softening effect which intensified with increasing strain rate. Moreover, the plastic flow stress was observed to increase for both static and dynamic loading conditions with increasing strain rate. The
microstructural characterization of the tested Gum Metal specimens showed particular deformation mechanisms regulating the phenomena of strain hardening and strain softening, namely an adiabatic shear band formed at ~ 45 deg with respect to the loading direction as well as widely spaced deformation bands (kink bands). Dislocations within the channels intersecting with twins may cause strain hardening while recrystallized grains and kink bands with crystal rotation inside the grains may lead to strain softening. A constitutive description of the compressive behavior of Gum Metal was proposed using a modified Johnson-Cook model.

ewolucji, stosownie do rozwoju i osiągania kolejnych etapów dojrzałości polskiego społeczeństwa
obywatelskiego. W konsekwencji w założeniu ustrojodawcy regulacja konstytucyjna
tej instytucji nie tylko nie powinna stanowić czynnika hamującego naturalne procesy
zachodzące wraz z rozwojem społeczeństwa obywatelskiego w strukturach wspólnot
samorządowych, lecz powinna pozwalać na ich petryfikowanie w ustrojowych ustawach
samorządowych. W niniejszej pracy możliwość realizacji powyższego założenia oraz obszaru
kompetencji samorządu terytorialnego jest rozpatrywana przez pryzmat zasad podziału
władzy państwowej oraz decentralizacji władzy publicznej. Rozważania prowadzą do wniosku o braku istnienia podstaw ustrojowych do wyodrębnienia władzy samorządowej
jako niezależnego i równorzędnego w stosunku do pozostałych segmentu władzy państwowej.

Systematic studies on the dynamics, intermolecular interactions and local structure in the alkyl and phenyl substituted butanol isomers
Get PDFIn this paper, we have studied local structure, interactions scheme and molecular dynamics of series of
aliphatic butanol (AB) isomers: n-butanol, iso-butanol, sec-butanol, and their phenyl counterparts
(PhB): 4-phenyl-1-butanol, 2-methyl-3-phenyl-1-propanol, and 4-phenyl-2-butanol by means of X-ray
diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and broadband dielectric spectroscopy (BDS) methods.
XRD demonstrated that aside from the main peak related to the nearest-neighbour intermolecular
correlations, there is a strong pre-peak at low scattering vector range for ABs, while for PhBs, this diffraction
feature was weakly visible or not detected at all. At first sight, it suggests that molecules in aliphatic
alcohols tend to associate and form medium-range order, while PhBs can be considered as disordered,
simple liquids. However, further thorough FTIR and BDS spectroscopy investigations have shown that
the phenyl moiety affects only slightly the degree of association and does not influence the strength of
H-bonds in aromatic alcohols. What is more, PhBs are characterized by a similar Kirkwood factor (gk
1) to the ABs. 4-phenyl-2-butanol is characterized by the greatest gk ~ 3.7 among all studied herein
alcohols, indicating a strong correlation between dipole moments and the formation of nanoassociates
of chain-like topology in its structure. Combining results obtained from different experimental techniques,
we pointed out that there are clear differences in dynamic and static properties between primary
and secondary alcohols, including medium- and short-range order, variation in the strength of H-bonds
and distribution of these types of interactions, the enthalpy of dissociation process, the glass transition
temperature, and Kirkwood factor, irrespective of the presence of steric hindrance posed by the phenyl
moiety. Results discussed in this paper clearly demonstrated that a superficial analysis of standard
diffraction patterns, which are often the first step to probe the structure of materials, may lead to wrong
conclusions. That is why complementary techniques must be applied together to understand the structure
and behavior of assembling liquids

Get PDFIn the twentieth century, Korea had a violent change in its history. Initially, Korea lost its
independence and became a Japanese colony. It regained freedom after the defeat of Japan,
but soon, the Korean War broke out. From that time until today, Korea has been divided
into two parts: the southern one and the northern one. After the war, South Korea was
a country under military dictatorship for a long time. South Korea after the Korean War belonged
to one of the poorest countries over the world. In the present time, however, South
Korea has become a country that has a great impact on the global economy. This change in
history had a huge impact (positively and negatively) on the mentality of Koreans. The aim
of my article is to present the economic development of South Korea from a Confucian
point of view and to analyze the impact of Korean history in the twentieth century on the
mentality of Koreans and its operation in Korean society (work ethos and ethos of science,
Korean language, etc.)
The symphony of team flow in virtual teams : using artificial intelligence for its recognition and promotion
Get PDFMore and more teams are collaborating virtually across the globe, and the COVID-19 pandemic has further encouraged the dissemination of virtual teamwork. However, there are challenges for virtual teams – such as reduced informal communication – with implications for team effectiveness. Team flow is a concept with high potential for promoting team effectiveness, however its measurement and promotion are challenging.
Traditional team flow measurements rely on self-report questionnaires that require interrupting the team process. Approaches in artificial intelligence, i.e., machine learning, offer methods to identify an algorithm based on behavioral and sensor data that is able to identify team flow and its dynamics over time without interrupting the process. Thus, in this article we present an approach to identify team flow in virtual teams, using machine learning methods. First of all, based on a literature review, we provide a model of team
flow characteristics, composed of characteristics that are shared with individual flow and characteristics that are unique for team flow. It is argued that those characteristics that are unique for team flow are represented by the concept of collective communication. Based on that, we present physiological and behavioral correlates of team flow which are suitable – but not limited to – being assessed in virtual teams and which can be used
as input data for a machine learning system to assess team flow in real time. Finally, we suggest interventions to support team flow that can be implemented in real time, in virtual environments and controlled by artificial intelligence. This article thus contributes to finding indicators and dynamics of team flow in virtual teams, to stimulate future research and to promote team effectiveness
Significance of selenium supplementation in root‑ shoot reactions under manganese stress in wheat seedlings– biochemical and cytological studies

Agronomic practices are one of the reasons for the increasing accumulation of elements in the soil, including manganese (Mn). Our previous studies have shown that selenium (Se) ions can reduce the toxic actions of metal stress. Those, we studied the effects of Mn—treated as a stressor and Se – as a potential defense in plants.
Methods
Mn ions (10 mM) or/and Se (15 μM) were added into hydroponic nutrients of two wheat cultivares. The evaluation of the stress-generating and protective actions were analyzed by biochemical methods and microscopic observations in leaves and roots. Moreover the level of DNA methylation for these tissues was determined.
Results
Mn application caused an increase of lipid peroxidation and hydrogen peroxide content in both leaves and roots and was accompanied with a greater absorption of this element by the roots. For other elements (K, Fe, S, P), with the exception of Ca, the reduced their uptake was registered, especially in roots. For roots, Mn stimulated greater, microscopically observed, desorganization in cell structure as compared to leaves, which was accompanied by a quantitative increase in 5-methylcytosine (5-metC) in root meristem. Se application diminished the effects of Mn-stress.
Conclusions
These studies is the first in which indicated that global 5-metC level in roots enhancing from dividing meristematic cells to elongating cells of the axial cylinder and cortex. It was suggested that the rise in Ca level can lead to modification of root cells differentiations what may be one of the steps in defense mechanisms

The Medievalism of Emotions in "King Lear"
Get PDFKing Lear exemplifies two cultures of feeling, the medieval and the early
modern one. Even though the humoral theory lay at the heart of the medieval and
the early modern understanding of emotions, there was a sudden change in the
understanding of specific medieval emotions in Renaissance England, such as honour as
an emotional disposition. Emotional expression also changed, since the late Middle Ages
favoured vehement emotional expression, while in early modern England curtailment of
any affective responses was advocated. Early modern England cut itself off from its
medieval past in this manner and saw itself as “civilized” due to this restraint. Also some
medieval courtly rituals were rejected. Expression of anger was no longer seen as natural
and socially necessary. Shame started to be perceived as a private emotion and was not
related to public shaming. The meaning of pride was discussed and love was separated
from the medieval concept of charity. In contrast, in King Lear the question
of embodiment of emotions is seen from a perspective similar to the medieval one.
The article analyzes medievalism in terms of affections and studies the shift from the
medieval ideas about them to the early modern ones
