Man and Machine in the perspective of Convergence and Artificial Intelligence

technologies. It concerns communication, language, acting and performing appropriate social roles.
Man in the mediatized world plays the role of: sender, user, prosumer and customer. Equipped with
knowledge, competences and action skills, he has to face a multitude of cybernetic assistants, avatars,
bots, robots, androids. Digital transformation and development of nanotechnology, biotechnology,
cognitive and information technology have resulted in a prominent place for artificial intelligence in the

Get PDFThe purpose of the considerations presented in this article is to analyze the status of philosophy in terms of its problem-solving potential, or, more simply, to trace the possible topographies of a philosophical path. The point of departure, but also the central subject of my research, is a passage from Plato’s The Symposium (201d–204c), containing an emblematic, though ambiguous, description of a philosophical journey. The key
problems that this description poses, particularly in the area of its metaphilosophical consequences, certainly deserve a more profound reflection. Therefore, in the subsequent sections of the article, I present – and critically discuss – some of the most significant interpretations of Plato’s passage, emphasizing their (meta) philosophical implications. The latter, in turn, are organized according to the categories of the modes of philosophy, as proposed by Sextus Empiricus (Pyr., I, 1–4). On the basis of the proposed reflection
upon the topography of the philosophical path and upon the character of the generally accepted model of knowledge, I endeavor to provide an explanation that, while avoiding the reefs of dogmatic consequences of thinking about philosophy, would account for –and acknowledge – the uncertainty inscribed in philosophy, both with respect to particular resolutions and with respect to the possibility of its own self-fulfillment. For this purpose, other narratives of paths, journeying, and pursuits – metaphorically unlike those offered

z jąkaniem w ramach wsparcia pozainstytucjonalnego, co stanowi odpowiedź
na niewystarczające wsparcie instytucjonalne. Przedstawiono również cele terapii
oraz rolę logopedy, który stanowi medium, towarzysząc osobie z jąkaniem podczas
pracy nad mową i poprawą jakości komunikowania się. Zostały ukazane założenia
autoterapii, w tym jej dwie główne drogi – instytucjonalna oraz pozainstytucjonalna,
ze szczegółowym opisem tej drugiej. Mocny akcent położono na jedną z form
autoterapii – autorstwa Malcoma Frasera. Podjęto także kwestie związane z propozycjami
ruchu samopomocy, w tym korzyści płynących z jego dobrodziejstw, oraz
scharakteryzowano poszczególne formy aktywności w ramach samopomocy. Opisano
ponadto możliwości, jakie daje uczestnikom wykorzystanie w ramach grup
samopomocowych elementów terapii narracyjnej. Ważną kwestią, którą podjęto
w pracy, jest sceptycyzm specjalistów w postrzeganiu grup samopomocy, wskazano
błędne przekonania na temat tej formy pomocy. W tekście podkreślono również
wagę wytycznych EBP (praktyki opartej na dowodach), będącej fundamentem skutecznej
interwencji logopedycznej, wpisującej się w ramy autoterapii. W końcowej
części rozdziału zaprezentowano studia przypadków 3 osób, które w myśl zasad
nurtu autoterapii stały się „swoimi własnymi terapeutami”

Get PDFThis paper analyses a possible effect of the variable of gender on semantic enrichment of existential sentences translated from English to Polish. Existential-there clauses in English typically take the form there + be + indefinite NP (+place/time adverbial). Since there-constructions lack a structurally congruent counterpart in Polish, they can be rendered in Polish with several syntactic constructions ranging from the verb ‘być’ (E. to be) through ‘mieć’ (E. to have) to verbs semantically richer than ‘być’ (e.g., verbs of perception, verbs of location, etc). We ask the question of whether the gender factor is correlated with the factor of text type/genre. To this purpose, we compiled a corpus of English texts representing belles-lettres and popular science writing, male-authored, female-authored and multi-authored and translated by male and female translators. Our preliminary results show that the choice of Polish translations of English existential-there follows from the interplay of genre, narrative/descriptive modes of text, and the gender of the translator, with female translators tending to replace the simple copula ‘be’ with a full lexical verb more often than male translators in dialogic parts of belle-lettres
Translations of Polish pro-ecological and pro-environmental books for children in South Korea
Get PDFThis article discusses the introduction of Polish books to children and young adult readers in South Korea. Its particular focus is on picture books which address environmental issues. Wioletta Hajduk-Gawron and Younghwa Kim examine the conditions favourable to the presence of translations of Polish books on the Korean publishing market, the phenomenon of the picture book and the values of eco-education through literature. Using several books as examples, the authors conduct a sample analysis of the chosen strategies used by publishers in the selection of books to be translated. They also examine strategies used in adapting a Polish book for the different cultural context; these strategies involve explication and textual or graphic modifications
