Effect of Rest Period Duration between Sets of Repeated Sprint Skating Ability Test on the Skating Ability of Ice Hockey Players
The aim of this study was to determine the effects of two different rest periods, 2 min and 3 min, between consecutive sets of a repeated sprint skating ability (RSSA) test, on the skating ability of ice hockey players. Two RSSA tests, RSSA-2 and RSSA-3, were assessed on 24 ice hockey players. In RSSA-2, six sets of 3 80 m sprint skating, with 2 min passive recovery between two consecutive sets was allowed. In RSSA-3, the recovery period between the sets was 3 min. Average speed, average heart rate (HRaver), peak heart rate (HRpeak), blood lactate concentration ([BLa]), and rate of perceived exertion (RPE) were measured in both RSSA-2 and RSSA-3 tests. In all the sets, except set 1, the average speed of the subjects was significantly (p < 0.05) higher in RSSA-3 than the respective set in RSSA-2. Average HR and RPE were higher in RSSA-2 than RSSA-3 in most of the sets. For any given set, no difference in HRpeak was noted between RSSA-2 and RSSA-3. Post-sprint (Set 6) [BLa] was significantly (p < 0.05) higher in RSSA-3 than RSSA-2. This study concludes that the 3 min rest period is more beneficial than the 2 min rest period, for (1) increasing skating speed and (2) reducing overall cardiac workload and perceived fatigue
“Inglourious Basterds” : Italian reminiscences of Artur Międzyrzecki’s writing
The article presents the process of individual, personal “memory work”. It concerns the
traces of collective and individual military experience (something like post-traumatic
stress disorder) in literary notation. It is interesting how the military trauma of the
Italian campaign is revealed in the narrative, how it “tells” in the changing phases of the
performance. The nature of this process is very difficult to describe (“fix” the experience
and “blur” it, “constructing individual fate” and “denying reality”, “mythologizing facts”
and “displacing the real”): it varies, opalesces in subsequent creative transformations

The current renewal of pastoral activity of the Church initiated at the Second Vatican Council included, among others, preaching with particular regard to delivering the homily. The Word of God is the foundation of preaching the Gospel, and It constantly shapes the life and the mission of the Church of all times. During the centuries of the Church’s history, the ministers appointed to proclaim the word of God by virtue of the priesthood established by Christ served the people of God by proclaiming the Gospel. The postulates of renewal of proclaiming the word of God concern also the preaching activity of the Order of Friars Minor (commonly called the Franciscans), who, united with the Roman Catholic Church, by their vows of obedience, and following the example of St. Francis of Assisi joined in the ministry of the word in the past centuries. Proclamation of the word of God is the task that the Franciscan community has been fulfilling from its very beginning, and it constitutes the character trait of the pastoral-evangelistic activity of the Order.
The purpose of this dissertation is an attempt to show the current state of preaching undertaken and realized by the presbyters of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Province of the Order of Friars Minor in Poland. It concerns mainly presenting the actual state of proclaiming the word of God in the Province (the theoretical objective) and showing the influence of the religious authority structures (the general religious structure of the Order and the structures of particular provinces) on the preaching (the practical objective). The primary source of this study are surveys conducted among the members of the Province. The survey results have been discussed in reference to the guidelines of the Church provided after the Second Vatican Council and the documents of the Order issued by the General Government and by the Provincial Government. The survey questionnaire has been created based on the present documents of the Order concerning the proclamation of the word of God and on the basis of the preaching methods developed by homiletics included in the literature on the subject.
Presentation of the historical and legal foundations of the community established by St. Francis over 800 years ago, and description of the history and organizational structure of the Order and the Province, constitute the introduction to the study of characteristics of today’s reality in which the surveyed presbyters are working. The personnel and material status of the pastoral ministry provided by particular Houses of the Order in Poland and abroad has been presented. The analysis of survey results shows that proclaiming the word of God during the homily is fairly correct and reliable. More attention shall be paid to the time of preparation of the homily and its formal and material aspects. Proclaiming the Word of God by delivering the homily is of Christocentric and ecclesial nature, and it is enriched with the elements of the Franciscan spirituality and charism. Mariological and existential references play an important role in proclaiming of the word of God. Considerable attention is given to the simplicity of the message and to the length of the homily.
Proclamation of the word of God by the Franciscans of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Province in Poland is based on the religious formation of the Order, awareness of the monastic identity of each brother and on the constant development of their spiritual life according to the spirituality of St. Francis of Assisi. The love for the Church and the Gospel, rooted deeply in the Franciscan spirituality, is a driving force for the constant renewal of preaching performed by the Franciscans by order of the Church, for the Church and with the Church. The methods, forms and ways of making the preaching of the word of God up to date in the modern world help in the realization of this task. The aspect of the proclamation of the word of God that especially needs the preaching renewal is evangelization realized through parish missions and retreats. The conclusions and homiletic postulates included in this study show the areas which should be improved in order to refine the preaching skills among the brothers of the Province
Stop Criterion in Building Decision Trees with Bagging Method for Dispersed Data
This article discusses issues related to decision making based on applying decision trees and bagging methods on dispersed knowledge. In dispersed knowledge, local decision tables possess data independently in fragments. In this study, sub-tables are further generated with bagging method for each local table, based on which the decision trees are built. These decision trees classify the test object, and a probability vector is defined over the decision classes for each local table. For each vector, decision classes with the maximum value of the coordinates are selected and final joint decisions for all local tables are made by majority voting. Quality of decision making has been observed to increase when bagging method as an ensemble method is combined with decision trees on independent dispersed data. An important criterion in building a decision tree is to know when to stop growing the tree (stop splitting). That is, at what minimum number of objects on a working node do we stop building the tree to ensure the best decision results. The contribution of the paper is to observe the influence a stop criterion (expressed in the number of objects in the node) for decision trees used in conjunction with bagging method on independent data sources. It can be concluded that in dispersed data set, the stop split criteria does not influence the classification quality much. The statistical significance of the difference in the mean classification error values was confirmed only for a very high stop criterion (0.1× number of objects in training set) and for a very low stop criterion (equal to two). There is no significant statistical difference in the classification quality obtained for the stop criterion values: 4, 6, 8 and 10. An interesting remark is that for some dispersed data sets, in the case of smaller number of local tables and larger number of bootstrap samples, better quality of classification is obtained for a small number of objects in the stop criterion (mostly for two objects). Only, at a significant increase in the minimum number of objects at which growth of trees is stopped is quality of classification affected. However, the gain in reducing the complexity for trees that we get when using the larger values of stop criterion is significant
Steered molecular dynamics of lipid membrane indentation by carbon and silicon-carbide nanotubes - the impact of indenting angle uncertainty
Due to the semi-liquid nature and uneven morphologies of biological membranes, indentation
may occur in a range of non-ideal conditions. These conditions are relatively unstudied and may
alter the physical characteristics of the process. One of the basic challenges in the construction of
nanoindenters is to appropriately align the nanotube tip and approach the membrane at a perpendicular
angle. To investigate the impact of deviations from this ideal, we performed non-equilibrium
steered molecular dynamics simulations of the indentation of phospholipid membranes by homogeneous
CNT and non-homogeneous SiCNT indenters. We used various angles, rates, and modes
of indentation, and the withdrawal of the relative indenter out of the membrane in corresponding
conditions was simulated
Data transmission reduction in wireless sensor network for spatial event detection
Wireless sensor networks have found many applications in detecting events such as
security threats, natural hazards, or technical malfunctions. An essential requirement for event
detection systems is the long lifetime of battery-powered sensor nodes. This paper introduces a
new method for prolonging the wireless sensor network’s lifetime by reducing data transmissions
between neighboring sensor nodes that cooperate in event detection. The proposed method allows
sensor nodes to decide whether they need to exchange sensor readings for correctly detecting events.
The sensor node takes into account the detection algorithm and verifies whether its current sensor
readings can impact the event detection performed by another node. The data are transmitted only
when they are found to be necessary for event detection. The proposed method was implemented in
a wireless sensor network to detect the instability of cargo boxes during transportation. Experimental
evaluation confirmed that the proposed method significantly extends the network lifetime and
ensures the accurate detection of events. It was also shown that the introduced method is more
effective in reducing data transmissions than the state-of-the-art event-triggered transmission and
dual prediction algorithms
The impact of the traditional male role norms on the posttraumatic stress disorder among Polish male firefighters
Background
The aim of this study was to explore potential associations between compliance with the traditional
male role norms and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms.
Methods
The study was conducted on 135 male Polish firefighters. The study used the Impact Event
Scale-Revised, the Relations/Social Support Scale and the Male Role Norms Scale.
Results
The study revealed that the firefighters that suffered from probable PTSD (over 34% of all
the respondents) seemed to comply with the male role norms more strictly than those without
PTSD. The reverse was found to be true for the perceived social support. Social status
norms and toughness norms understood as expectations that men should achieve high status
by means of successful career, etc., and be tough and resilient at all costs to be perceived
as “manly” were found to be positively associated with the development of PTSD,
while in the case of perceived social support, a negative association was confirmed. The
results might yield important clinical implications—traditional male role norms pertaining to
toughness and social status might be associated with the increase in chances of developing
PTSD after the exposure to potentially traumatic events.
Conclusions
Firefighting as a stereotypically masculine occupation may be associated with the reinforcement
of stereotypically masculine behaviors, which in turn is associated with a decreased
ability to cope with potentially traumatic stimuli and favoring maladaptive behaviors. The
results might suggest that addressing the beliefs about masculinity during psychological
intervention in the case of PTSD might be beneficial especially among such masculinized
groups as firefighters. The main limitations of the study are: participation of those more
eager to participate and reveal personal information; the recall and report bias; the relatively small sample size; sociodemographic data omissions; the study group almost exclusively
consisting of firefighters from large urban centers
Investigation of Electromechanical Properties on 3-D Printed Piezoelectric Composite Scaffold Structures
Piezoelectric composites with 3-3 connectivity gathered attraction due to their potential
application as an acoustic transducer in medical imaging, non-destructive testing, etc. In this
contribution, piezoelectric composites were fabricated with a material extrusion-based additive
manufacturing process (MEX), also well-known under the names fused deposition modeling (FDM),
fused filament fabrication (FFF) or fused deposition ceramics (FDC). Thermoplastic filaments were
used to achieve open and offset printed piezoelectric scaffold structures. Both scaffold structures
were printed, debinded and sintered successfully using commercial PZT and BaTiO3 powder. For
the first time, it could be demonstrated, that using the MEX processing method, closed pore ferroelectric
structure can be achieved without pore-former additive. After ceramic processing, the PZT
scaffold structures were impregnated with epoxy resin to convert them into composites with 3-3
connectivity. A series of composites with varying ceramic content were achieved by changing the
infill parameter during the 3D printing process systematically, and their electromechanical properties
were investigated using the electromechanical aix PES device. Also, the Figure of merit (FOM) of
these composites was calculated to assess the potential of this material as a candidate for transducer

Autorka przedstawia próbę charakterystyki aktu jedzenia jako „zdarzenia” komunikacyjnego i swoistego tekstu kultury w oparciu o główne założenia modelu komunikacji i teorii informacji, a także ogólnej teorii znaków. Zasadniczy cel szkicu sprowadzał się do rekonstrukcji językowo-kulturowego obrazu jedzenia w aspekcie komunikacji międzyludzkiej. W opisie materiału odwoływano się do wybranych metod i narzędzi badawczych wypracowanych w obrębie semantyki lingwistycznej, zwłaszcza w jej odmianie kulturowej. Źródła materiałowe wykorzystane do badania fenomenu jedzenia zostały zawężone głównie do przestrzeni języka polskiego i kultury polskiej, ale w trakcie analizy przywoływano także niektóre przykłady odnoszące do innych kultur. Konstruując model układu komunikacyjnego dla sytuacji jedzenia w kategoriach lingwistycznych, wyodrębniono podstawową relację pomiędzy wykonawcą czynności (osobą jedzącą) a obiektem tej czynności (pokarmem). Analiza materiału wykazała, że obok wyrażanych werbalnie informacji o tym „kto” je, „co” je czy też „w jaki sposób” je, nie mniej istotną rolę w kodowaniu pewnych znaczeń dla odbiorcy pełnią również towarzyszące im komunikaty niewerbalne (odgłosy jedzenia, mowa ciała osoby jedzącej), jak również sygnały konwencjonalne używane w zastępstwie formuły słownej (przekazywane za pomocą odpowiedniego ułożenia sztućców albo też za pośrednictwem samej potrawy bądź określonego sposobu konsumpcji)
Heroine’s journey to love: spatial rhetoric in romantic subplots in BioWare’s fantasy RPGs
This article explores the potential of digital games to encode references encompassing specific cultural
ideas of romantic love within their spatial structures, thus helping guide the player’s interpretation of
romance as they interact with and move through those spaces. It undertakes an analysis of romantic
subplots in BioWare’s fantasy role-playing games, specifically those which reappropriate the courtly
love trope, and discusses elements of that remediation which rely heavily on spatial metaphors and
structures, including the shared experience of heroic journey, the role of questing for the development
of romance, and spatial positioning of lovers on the game map. Through its analysis, the article
explores how digital games can employ spatial rhetoric while approaching topics of love, and how
they are equipped to represent the materiality and spatiality of love and love narratives
