Insight into the antibacterial activity of selected metal nanoparticles and alterations within the antioxidant defence system in Escherichia coli, Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus epidermidis
The antimicrobial activity of nanoparticles (NPs) is a desirable feature of various products
but can become problematic when NPs are released into different ecosystems, potentially endangering
living microorganisms. Although there is an abundance of advanced studies on the toxicity and
biological activity of NPs on microorganisms, the information regarding their detailed interactions
with microbial cells and the induction of oxidative stress remains incomplete. Therefore, this work
aimed to develop accurate oxidation stress profiles of Escherichia coli, Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus
epidermidis strains treated with commercial Ag-NPs, Cu-NPs, ZnO-NPs and TiO2-NPs. The methodology
used included the following determinations: toxicological parameters, reactive oxygen species
(ROS), antioxidant enzymes and dehydrogenases, reduced glutathione, oxidatively modified proteins
and lipid peroxidation. The toxicological studies revealed that E. coli was most sensitive to NPs than
B. cereus and S. epidermidis. Moreover, NPs induced the generation of specific ROS in bacterial cells,
causing an increase in their concentration, which further resulted in alterations in the activity of the
antioxidant defence system and protein oxidation. Significant changes in dehydrogenases activity
and elevated lipid peroxidation indicated a negative effect of NPs on bacterial outer layers and
respiratory activity. In general, NPs were characterised by very specific nano-bio effects, depending
on their physicochemical properties and the species of microorganism
Outliers in Covid 19 data based on Rule representation - the analysis of LOF algorithm
Knowledge-Based and Intelligent Information & Engineering Systems: Proceedings of the 25th International Conference KES2021; 08-10.092021, SzczecinThe article concerns the detection of outliers in rule-based knowledge bases containing data on Covid 19 cases. The authors move
from the automatic generation of a rule-based knowledge base from source data by clustering rules in the knowledge base to
optimize inference processes and to detecting unusual rules allowing for the optimal structure of rule groups. The paper presents
a two-phase procedure, wherein in the first phase, we look for the optimal structure of rule clusters when there are outlier rules
in the knowledge base. In the second phase, we detect outliers in the rules using the LOF (Local Outlier Factor) algorithm. Then
we eliminate the unusual rules from the database and check whether the selected cluster quality measures are responded positively
to the elimination of outliers, which would indicate that the rules were rightly considered outliers. The performed experiments
confirmed the effectiveness of the LOF algorithm and selected cluster quality measures in the context of detecting atypical rules.
The detection of such rules can support knowledge engineers or domain experts in knowledge mining to improve the completeness
of the knowledge base, which is usually the basis of the decision support system

The article is theoretical. It presents the value of scribble in the development of a child’s drawing
creativity. As a result of the theoretical analysis of the problem of scribbling in a child’s drawing,
the author defined the following features of the scribble, such as: dynamics of change, spontaneity
of action, elementary kinesthetic in building a form, non-objectivity, own internal rhythm of drawing
and painting, subjectivity, projection of the form of physical activity, fabulous content, novelty
results, originality of the approach, expressiveness. The time for free scribbling of a child, which is
assigned to him in his first stage of development of drawing creativity, is an important time for his
creative development, motivation to learn and action, which will give him a good basis for further
stages of his activities and learning

The aim of the present paper is to discuss the English lexical borrowing coming out, together with some related constructions, used in Polish. The construction in question was originally used in Polish in LGBT community to denote the process of disclosing one’s own non-heterosexual orientation; now, however, it has significantly expanded its range of contexts. The construction is thus used in many different contexts, connected with e.g. one’s religion, details about one’s earnings, etc. Interestingly enough, the meaning of other constructions, such as outing, has not been extended. In the article, descriptions of the meanings of the forms in question have been illustrated with numerous examples taken from the National Corpus of Polish (NKJP) and the MoncoPL Corpus
Influence of lead on the activity of soil microorganisms in two Beskidy landscape parks
The aim of the study was to assess the
potential impact of lead on soil metabolism in two
landscape parks localized in the Beskid Śląski and
Beskid Żywiecki mountains which were affected,
among others, by air pollution from the Upper Silesian
Industrial Region, the largest industrial zone in
Poland. The study was carried out in six locations
with different lead levels in the soil environment.
Each plot was equipped with four pairs of vacuum
ceramic lysimeters to assess the mobility of Pb in the
soil. The metabolic activity was assessed by measuring:
soil enzyme activity, soil respiration and by
studying community-level physiological profiling
(CLPP) using Biolog EcoPlates technique. The soil
to the examination was collected near the stands with
the lysimeters from two soil horizons (A and B layer).
The analyses carried out showed that the factors that
had the greatest influence on lead mobility were the
organic carbon content and the soil pH. The elevated
lead level in the topsoil (layer A) could affect the functional biodiversity of soil microorganisms, but
low soil pH was a more likely limiting factor. In the
subsoil (layer B), lower lead content was found and its
probable effect on soil microbial activity was small.
In summary, it can be concluded that the assessment
of the influence of heavy metals on soil metabolism
is not easy, and the Biolog system has proven to be
a sensitive tool for assessing the potential impact of
heavy metals on the soil environment
Mending tradition: The costumes of Sądecki Lachs as an expression of identity and regional affiliation
In their studies of the clothing of the former Sądecczyzna region conducted so
far, scholars have omitted its variability. The idea of there being only one variant of the
traditional costume, embraced and copied both by researchers and by local regionalists,
was effectively fixed in the consciousness of the group identified as Sądecki Lachs.
The region, thus hermetically sealed and supposedly resistant to any transformation,
has become identified as an area where this variant has exclusively occurred. The use of
traditional Lach costumes is an important element of social discussion, and its analysis
stimulates further research problems, e.g.: Is a new creation/recomposition a continuation
of the phenomena of folklore? Is it folklorismus? Or is it a completely different
phenomenon in the context of autofolklorization
The synthesis of hypodiphosphoric acid and derivatives with P-P bond, including esters and diphosphine dioxides : a review
The synthesis of hypodiphosphoric acid and its related compounds began in 1877, but no
summary of the synthetic efforts has been reported. This review includes published papers related
to the molecules containing the >P(=O)-P(=O)< fragment, which notably resembles the structure of
the >P(=O)-O-P(=O)< moiety, the essential building block of many important molecules found in
nature and in the field of medicinal chemistry. This review covers the strategies related to the
synthesis of hypodiphosphoric acid (former name hypophosphoric acid), its ester form, and diphosphine
dioxides. Finally, some properties and applications of these structures studied during
this period are presented

The article deals with the subject of the municipal waste management fee, including
the structural elements of the fee and the rules of its collection. The author also qualifies
the fee as a public levy and assesses whether it is closer to a fee in the constitutional sense, or
a tax. The article also refers to the issue of tax consequences of the fee in the tax on goods and
services

Visualising user–website interaction: description and evaluation of a teaching method
This paper presents a teaching method applied in a usability research course that is part of a bachelor degree programme
at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. The method employs visualisation techniques of the user–website interaction,
a design practice popular in other fields, but less often used in usability studies. The theoretical background of the data
visualisation method, as well as examples of its use in research, are presented and discussed in this paper. In addition to
presenting the method, the paper evaluates and analyses how students have responded to it. Using the technology acceptance
model, we identified the perceived usability of the method as the main factor influencing students’ behavioural intention to
use it in the future
