On Liberatory Strategies of Digital Nomads

tłum. Paweł JędrzejkoThe article presents selected threads of poststructuralist discourses, such as posthumanism and post-anarchism, to point out the affirmative understanding of the changes in human subjectivity and identity within the networked reality of trans-national capitalism. The starting point for the argument presented in the text is Rosi Braidotti’s concept of the nomadic subject, functioning in a post-anthropocentric world inhabited by non-anthropic consciousness and anthropotechnical hybrids. The identity of such a nomadic subject is variable, flexible, and queer. The strategies of digital nomads, avoiding permanent points/places, and thus eluding essentialism, are presented as lib-eratory strategies of resistance. Artykuł prezentuje wybrane wątki dyskursów poststrukturalistycznych, takich jak posthumanistyka i postanarchizm, aby naświetlić afirmatywne rozumienie przemian podmiotowości i tożsamości człowieka w usieciowionej rzeczywistości transnarodowego kapitalizmu.

Literature as an Auxiliary Science in Teaching Geography

    Get PDF
artykule omówiono zagadnienie statusu literatury w nauczaniu geografii. Literatura, podobnie jak kartografia, mapuje przestrzeń, nadając jej imiona własne, które pozwalają zobaczyć w przestrzeni swoiste miejsca „zgęstniałego, mnogiego czasu” (Claudio Magris). Literackie mapy wiążą topografię z historią i w ten sposób realizują geopolityczny projekt „myślenia o miejscu, czasie i akcji jako spójnej całości” (Karl Schlögel).

The law of the iterated logarithm for random dynamical system with jumps and state-dependent jump intensity

    Get PDF
In this paper our considerations are focused on some Markov chain associated with certain piecewise-deterministic Markov process with a statedependent jump intensity for which the exponential ergodicity was obtained in [4]. Using the results from [3] we show that the law of iterated logarithm holds for such a model

Constraints on neutrino mixing from matrix theory

Bone histology of eosauropterygian diapsid Proneusticosaurus silesiacus from the Middle Triassic of Poland reveals new insights into taxonomic affinities

    Get PDF
The status of Proneusticosaurus silesiacus from the Lower Muschelkalk (lower Anisian) of Poland is controversially discussed. Its femur was histologically sampled to learn more about its taxonomic affinities and life style. It shows a reduced central medullary cavity surrounded by a narrow medullary region and followed by a thick compact cortex, displaying strong osteosclerosis. The tissue type can be summarized as lamellar-zonal. The inner third of the cortex consists of well vascularized parallel-fibred bone and is interpreted as a phase of juvenile growth, whereas the middle and outer cortex is made of highly organized parallel-fibred to lamellar bone. Except for the inner cortex and local accumulations of longitudinally primary osteons in the middle cortex, the femur is widely avascular. The cortex of P. silesiacus is regularly stratified by rest lines. Altogether seven annual growth cycles are counted. The very low growth rate of P. silesiacus, as deduced from tissue type, makes taxonomical affinities to Nothosaurus spp. or basal pistosauroids (i.e., humeri of aff. Cymatosaurus sp.) very unlikely. Proneusticosaurus silesiacus femoral histology does also not match any of the here studied femora of Eosauropterygia indet. Proneusticosaurus silesiacus shares similar low growth rates, the osteosclerotic femur, as well as pachyostotic vertebrae and ribs with the pachypleurosaurs Dactylosaurus gracilis and Neusticosaurus spp. and with the nothosaur Lariosaurus sp. These features are, however, most likely convergent and reflect the degree of secondary aquatic adaptation in shallow marine inhabitants. The high organized and low vascularized tissue, the implied low growth rate, the plesiomorphic femur morphology, and the strongly inclined zygapophyses of the vertebrae (contra roughly horizontal zygapophyses in other Eosauropterygia), makes P. silesiacus unique and evidence that this genus represents a valid genus within early Eosauropterygia. Proneusticosaurus silesiacus might represent one of the most basal members of Eosauropterygia so far known

This study presents the vertical profiles of aerosol optical and microphysical properties obtained from cable car and ground-based measurements in the Silesian Beskids, Poland. The data were collected during a measurement campaign between 25 February and March 11, 2018. An AE-51 micro-aethalometer and PMS7003 and OPC-N2 optical particle counters were mounted on the cable car and used to measure the profiles of equivalent of black carbon (eBC) concentration and aerosol size distribution. In situ measurements of the optical properties of the aerosols were obtained using an AE-31 aethalometer and photoacoustic devices. A prototype lidar was used to determine the planetary boundary layer (PBL) height and the aerosol layers. In the middle phase of the study (1–6 March 2018), significant night-time temperature inversions were observed. During the inversion period, the parameters describing the amount of aerosols in the air increased significantly. The concentration of eBC exceeded the level of 15 μg/m3 several times, with an average level of 5.39 ± 4.42 μg/m3. Conversely, the results obtained in the first and third phases of the experiment were at the level of the aerosol background, being 1.45 ± 0.88 μg/m3 and 0.90 ± 0.95 μg/m3, respectively. Significant differences were also observed in the vertical profiles of PM10 mass and eBC concentration. In the middle phase of the study, the profiles showed a significant reduction in the concentration of pollutants with height, while in the first and third phases, there were slight variations with height

The use of thermal imaging in the evaluation of temperature effects of radiotherapy in patients after mastectomy - first study

    Get PDF
The aim of the study was to evaluate the temperature parameter of the breast area in patients undergoing radiotherapy at various intervals. The relationship between temperature changes on the patient’s skin and the time after the end of radiotherapy was studied. Measurements with a thermal imaging camera were performed in a group of twelve volunteers. Six of them were healthy women who did not have thermal asymmetry between the breasts, whereas six were diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent mastectomy due to the advanced stage of the disease. The patients were qualified for radiation therapy. Thermographic examinations were performed before treatment, two months later and then six months after the end of the treatment. Temperature differences between the healthy breasts and the treated areas were assessed. Additionally, the correlation between a patient’s skin temperature changes and the time after the end of radiotherapy was analyzed. The highest skin temperature increase (1.47 C) was observed 6 months after the end of RT compared to the measurement before treatment. It seems that thermovision may bring a new tool for quantitative analyses of the temperature effects of radiotherapy

The effect of glycerin content in sodium alginate/poly(vinyl alcohol)- based hydrogels for wound dressing application

The impact of different amounts of glycerin, which was used in the system of sodium alginate/poly(vinyl alcohol) (SA/PVA) hydrogel materials on the properties, such as gel fraction, swelling ability, degradation in simulated body fluids, morphological analysis, and elongation tests were presented. The study shows a significant decrease in the gel fraction from 80.5 2.1% to 45.0 1.2% with the increase of glycerin content. The T5 values of the tested hydrogels were varied and range from 88.7 C to 161.5 C. The presence of glycerin in the matrices significantly decreased the thermal resistance, which was especially visible by T10 changes (273.9 to 163.5 C). The degradation tests indicate that most of the tested materials do not degrade throughout the incubation period and maintain a constant ion level after 7-day incubation. The swelling abilities in distilled water and phosphate buffer solution are approximately 200–300%. However, we noticed that these values decrease with the increase in glycerin content. All tested matrices are characterized by the maximum elongation rate at break in a range of 37.6–69.5%. The FT-IR analysis exhibits glycerin changes in hydrogel structures, which is associated with the cross-linking reaction. Additionally, cytotoxicity results indicate good adhesion properties and no toxicity towards normal human dermal fibroblasts

Mapping mythological motives. Zmora as a creature harmful to people and farm animals

Analizę zawartości literatury ograniczono do podstawowych czaso- pism i prac zwartych, które zaprezentowano w formie obszernych aneksów i trzech map etnogeograficznych.
