Gold Nanoparticles-Induced Modifications in Cell Wall Composition in Barley Roots
Get PDFThe increased use of nanoparticles (NP) in different industries inevitably results in their
release into the environment. In such conditions, plants come into direct contact with NP. Knowledge
about the uptake of NP by plants and their effect on different developmental processes is still
insufficient. Our studies concerned analyses of the changes in the chemical components of the cell
walls of Hordeum vulgare L. roots that were grown in the presence of gold nanoparticles (AuNP).
The analyses were performed using the immunohistological method and fluorescence microscopy.
The obtained results indicate that AuNP with different surface charges affects the presence and
distribution of selected pectic and arabinogalactan protein (AGP) epitopes in the walls of root cells
Trade wars and the changing international order: a crisis of globalization?
Get PDFIncreased geopolitical competition and growing economic nationalism
after 2014 have gradually started to slow the trend of liberalization of
international trade. Relations among certain national states have turned
into trade wars – a hybrid phenomenon shaped at the intersection of
geopolitics and geoeconomics. The paper explores global and regional
trends in trade regulations introduced by the world’s largest economies
and, at the same time, its major military powers. The G20 countries’ role
in these processes was illustrated through references to empirical data
on the dynamics of the introduced trade regulations in 2009–2018. The
effectiveness of the regulations index is proposed. Apart from the harm
that deepening such negative trends in the global geostrategic balance
does to broader bilateral relations, the role of trade wars in re-shaping
globalization’s established conditions is also discussed

Get PDFPhylogenetic analyses of sequences of the nuc rDNA small subunit (18S), internal transcribed spacer (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 = ITS), and large subunit (28S) region (= 18S-ITS-28S), as well as sequences of this region concatenated with sequences of the largest subunit of RNA polymerase II (RPB1) gene, proved that the species originally described as Acaulospora polonica (phylum Glomeromycota) represents a new genus and a new family of the ancient order Archaeosporales, here introduced into the Glomeromycota under the names Polonospora and Polonosporaceae, respectively. The phylogenetic analyses and BLASTn queries also indicated that the Polonosporaceae with P. polonica comb. nov. still contains several morphologically
undescribed taxa at the ranks of genus and species, which have a worldwide distribution
Is the naturalization of the townscape a condition of de-industrialization? An example of Bytom in southern Poland
Get PDFA characteristic element of the transformations of cities in Central and Eastern Europe
after 1990 was the emergence of shrinking cities. The main problem related to shrinking cities is
around how this process developed as a result of rapidly intensifying de-industrialization. While
many studies in this area are devoted to demographic, social, and economic issues, relatively few
studies address the spatial dimension. In this article, the example of spatial development in the
(post-) mining city of Bytom in southern Poland is discussed, pointing to the need for a multifaceted
approach to this issue. This article begins with an attempt to contextualize this issue within a broader
time perspective. Such an analysis makes it possible to better situate contemporary changes in the
context of the processes that were visible in previous periods. Next, these changes are described
using two methods. The basis of the first method is comparisons between the different types of land
use. The second method, which is emphasized, is the method of A. Macias, which indicates the
degree of naturalization/anthropogenization of space. Macias’ method is crucial in the context of
discussions about the future of post-mining towns, where attention is paid, among other things, to
the issue of sustainable development

Jest ona skierowana zarówno do czytelników o zainteresowaniach stricte naukowych – językoznawców, studentów filologii – jak i do dydaktyków, tłumaczy oraz specjalistów zajmujących się automatycznym przetwarzaniem języka naturalnego. Hasła słownikowe języka francuskiego, polskiego i włoskiego zostały opisane według wspólnego, bardzo czytelnego schematu, uwzględniającego dziesięć parametrów, np. warunki użycia formuły, jej budowa, nacechowanie stylistyczne, częstość występowania w różnych typach korpusów językowych. Recent advances in data acquisition systems, sensor design, and sensor networks allow collection of large volumes of detailed biomedical data. For instance, body area networks with wireless sensors can be used to non-invasively and continuously monitor several physiological parameters and recognize human activities [1]. Franciszek Blachnicki (21 March 1921–27 February 1987) insistently postulated making the “Copernican turn” in the Church’s saving ministry. On the hundredth anniversary of his birth, it is worth looking at the guiding principles of the Congregation for Clergy Pastoral conversion of the parish community in the service of the Church’s evangelizing mission (29 June 2020) and analyze to what extent Blachnicki’s concept of pastoral conversion regarding the renewal of the parish is still valid and estimate whether it can still be an inspiration in pastoral discussions on the realization of the Church hic et nunc
