Sensor-Fusion-Driven Adaptive Control of Elastic Actuation-Based Wearable Exoskeleton

    No full text
International audienceThis paper proposes an adaptive control framework for a compliant lower limb exoskeleton that assists the motion of the hip and knee joints of the sagittal plane. The system leverages real-time multisensor fusion, virtual joint elasticity, and an adaptive fuzzy PID control strategy to achieve robust trajectory tracking under dynamic and user-specific variability. The framework is validated through high-fidelity simulations and hardware-in-the-loop experiments, demonstrating improved tracking precision, motion smoothness, and control responsiveness compared to conventional PID schemes. The integration of virtual compliance and intelligent gain adaptation enhances interaction safety and comfort, supporting the practical deployment of adaptive control in wearable robotic systems for rehabilitation and mobility assistance

Next Step Towards Intent-based Scheduling for Performance and Security in Edge-to-Cloud Networks

    No full text
International audienceThis paper presents a framework for intent-based scheduling in Kubernetes (K8s) by advancing the design of a dynamic Segmentation Custom Resource Definition (CRD). The focus is on the interplay between security and performance in multi-tenant environments, proposing a framework for intent-driven scheduling without requiring manual node-level management. By establishing the architectural foundation for declarative segmentation, this research sets the stage for future implementation and validation of this concept in the kubernetes environment

Modeling the Complexity of the Georgian Verbal System through Linked Data and Machine Learning

    No full text
International audienceThe Georgian verbal system poses significant challenges due to its agglutinative and inflectional nature, lack of infinitives, rich morphological structure, and irregular patterns. To assist Georgian language learners and support lexicographic work, we are developing KARTUVERBS, a comprehensive linked-data platform for Georgian verb forms. This system integrates structured lexical data, semantic web technologies, and machine learning to infer missing lemmas (verbal nouns). Current results show a prediction accuracy of 98% using decision trees, with cross-validation against the Georgian National Corpus. This paper outlines our methodology, the unique linguistic challenges of Georgian, and future directions for integrating crowdsourcing and deep learning into the tool’s development

Silent in code, loud in effect: How epitranscriptomic regulation sculpted cucumber domestication

    No full text
International audienceFor a long time, mutations that do not alter protein sequences, so-called synonymous mutations, were largely overlooked. Scientists assumed they had little to no biological impact, considering them as neutral background noise in the course of evolution. But a new study by Xin et al. (2025) challenges that assumption. Their research reveals that one such “silent” mutation played a pivotal role in cucumber domestication (Che and Zhang, 2019). Rather than being inert, the mutation triggered a cascade of molecular changes involving mRNA structure and chemical modifications, ultimately altering hormone levels and growth patterns. These findings mark a turning point in our understanding of gene regulation, exposing RNA, not just DNA or protein, as a major driver of evolutionary change

Anion-π Meets H-Bonding: Tuning Synergy Through the Flexibility to-Preorganization Transition in Anion Receptor Design

    No full text
International audienceThis study focuses on a series of receptors incorporating urea and pentafluoropyridine motifs to investigate the synergistic combination of hydrogen bonding and anion-π interactions for anion recognition. We synthesized three receptors with various spacers to evaluate the influence of molecular preorganization and rigidity on anion binding. Flexible receptor 1 and rigid receptors 2 and 3 were synthesised following a two-step protocol, involving the construction of the urea fragment from isocyanate precursors and a nucleophilic aromatic substitution to install the tetrafluoropyridine motif as key steps. Computational analyses (DFT, NCI plots), NMR spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry were employed to assess structural features and binding performance. DFT calculations revealed that all receptors allow complexation with chloride through dual urea and π-anion sites. Structural rigidity in receptor 3 showed enhanced binding efficacy due to steric strain and additional C–H···Cl⁻ interaction from its naphthalene core. NMR titrations provided qualitative insights into binding events, with receptor 3 exhibiting the largest shieldings for all H-bonds, in line with theoretical predictions. Mass spectrometry and collision-induced dissociation (CID) experiments confirmed receptor–anion complexation, with fragmentation patterns supporting the relative binding strengths. The overall ranking is 3>2>1, corroborating computational and experimental data

Can the adoption of circular economy practices foster supply chain resilience and performance improvements?

    No full text
FNEGE 3, ABS 3International audienceWhile a growing literature is showing interest in the circular economy ( CE ) paradigm, there is still a lack of consensus on whether the adoption of CE practices can help to cope with supply risks arising from an increasingly uncertain business environment in order to increase supply chain resilience (SCRES) and improve a firm's performance. Through a survey of Italian enterprises engaged with CE practices, this study aims to fill this literature gap, investigating whether the adoption of CE practices can initiate a path of increased SCRES, which can lead firms to improve their overall performance, thus proactively responding to environments characterised by high levels of supply risk. This study contributes to the debates about the paths connecting CE practices and firms' performance, especially in the context of vulnerabilities and disturbances, empirically demonstrating how firms might exploit the potential of CE by investing in SCRES. This study sheds light on the relationship between CE and SCRES, particularly underlying the most relevant paths of relationships between CE and those SCRES capabilities that can lead to performance improvements, particularly when the level of supply risk increases

How to be a Liberal and Defend Inheritance in the 20th Century? The case of Hayek and Mises

During session 10g - Hayek. History of 20th-century economic thoughtPresenter: Gillig Philippe BETA, Université de StrasbourgDiscussant: Ishii Motonori Waseda UniversityInternational audienceThe increasing significance of inheritance in the rise of inequalities since the 1980s has been well-documented statistically, thanks to the pioneering work of Piketty, and continues to be explored through the efforts of the World Inequality Lab. Following these studies, there is currently a flourishing body of research in economics addressing the issue of inheritance: on the link between inheritance and inequalities, works such as Adermon et al. (2018) in the case of Sweden, or Boserup et al. (2016) in the case of Denmark, demonstrate that inheritance explains the observed correlation between generational wealth levels. In France, noteworthy contributions include the works of Frémeaux (2018) and the recent report from CAE (Dherbécourt et al. 2021). The OECD has also taken up the question (OECD 2021). In the history of economic thought, this question did not appear central for a long time. However, since the works initiated by Erreygers (Erreygers and Vandevelde 1997; Erreygers and Di Bartolomeo 2007; Erreygers and Cunliffe 2013), there has been a growing interest in this theme. For example, in France, the works of Silvant (2015) show that French liberals of the 19th century all uphold the principle of individual inheritance, with the only debate among them revolving around whether the freedom to transmit should be total or limited. It is interesting to note that French liberals are generally fervent supporters of J.S. Mill. However, Mill's defense of a liberal position in economic matters leads him, unlike French liberals, to drastically question inheritance through a prohibitive progressive taxation beyond a certain threshold of transmitted wealth, while rejecting any progressivity in income tax, perceived itself as unjust. Mill's position (1848) raises the question of the link between liberal thought and inheritance. It is conceivable that a consistent liberal should praise individual effort and success, thus rejecting any individual inheritance to ensure the conditions of fair competition and, consequently, equality of opportunities. Such a stance implies achieving social justice upstream of the primary distribution of income, rather than downstream. Through that lens, we propose to examine in this paper the coherence of the defense of inheritance among authors who claim to be true liberals in the 20th century, namely Hayek and Mises. How do these authors position themselves on the issue of inheritance and its taxation? What role does this issue play in their liberal doctrine?
