An ecological inquiry into transnational English language teachers’ emotional vulnerability and agency
In this study, we propose an ecological model of teacheragency and emotional vulnerability that draws on epistemological rootsof these two constructs to capture historico-personal, socio-organizational,and prospective levels of teacher professionalism. We then ontologicallyapply the model to exploring transnational language teachers’ agency andemotional vulnerability in the context of Turkey. Framing the study withina narrative inquiry methodology, we collected data from open-ended ques-tionnaires, narrative frames, and semi-structured interviews. Data analysesrevealed that the teachers’ personal emotions, embodied agencies, andvulnerabilities were profoundly shaped by individual histories, contextualdiscourses, and sociocultural particularities. The findings unpack noveldimensions of teachers’ agency and emotional vulnerability, attesting totheir interconnection, especially within the context of transnationalism. Weconclude the study with implications for teacher educators to reduce thepressure on transnational teachers and render their agencies as rooted ineffective professional growth, rather than being defined by excessive vul-nerabilities that in turn restrict teacher agencies
Investigating psychological adaptations of parents to childhood disabilities
Background and Objective: Parenting a child with a disability presents unique challenges and necessitates psychological adaptation. This study explores the psychological adaptations of parents to childhood disabilities.
Methods: A qualitative research design was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews with 26 parents of children with disabilities in Richmond Hill, Ontario in 2023. Theoretical saturation was achieved to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the experiences. Meanwhile, the data were analyzed using thematic analysis, facilitated by NVivo software.
Results: Four main themes were identified: emotional journey, coping strategies, family dynamics, and social and community support. The emotional journey theme included initial reactions of shock and adaptation over time, leading to grief acceptance and positive reappraisals. The coping strategies theme involved seeking information, building a support network, professional support, personal coping mechanisms, and advocacy. Family Dynamics revealed changes in family roles, sibling relationships, and marital/partner relationships. Finally, the social and community support theme highlighted the importance of community involvement, access to resources, public perception and stigma, and inclusion and accessibility.
Conclusion: This study demonstrates parents' complex and dynamic psychological adaptations to childhood disabilities. It underscores the importance of comprehensive support systems that address the emotional, practical, and social needs of families. The findings highlight the resilience of parents and the necessity for targeted interventions to support their well-being and facilitate positive adaptation
Filling the 'Great Lacuna'? Recent trends in the eighteenth-century Ottoman intellectual history
In a survey article published two decades ago, Hathaway identified the intelleetual life of the eighteenth-century Ottoman Empire as one of the period’s most understudied aspects. While acknowledging the historiographical accomplishments in the field, she noted that ‘the still-looming gaps’ existed in the literature with regard to intellectual history. She contended that intellectual history represented ‘the great lacuna in Ottoman history*. Her analysis further indicated that much of the existing scholarship on ulema, the primary learned class of the period, was prosopographic, focusing on their career trajectories and there was also a limited scholarly interest in the societal roles of prominent ulema figures. However, she emphasised that these studies largely neglected the intellectual output of the ulema
Linking digital knowledge management practices to organizational performance: A serial mediation perspective
In today’s rapidly evolving economy, organizations increasingly rely on digital knowledge management (DKM) to fuel innovation and improve performance. However, limited research has explored the sequential mechanisms through which DKM practices generate value. This study addresses this gap by proposing and empirically testing a serial mediation model where innovation serves as the central conduit linking three DKM components— (i) Digital Knowledge Storage (DKNST), (ii) Digital Knowledge-Sharing (DKNSH), and (iii) Knowledge Utilization Through Digital Technologies (KNUTDTs)—to Perceived Organizational Performance (PERPOP). Drawing on the Knowledge-Based View (KBV), Resource-Based View (RBV), and Organizational Learning Theory (OLT), a multi-firm online organizational survey was conducted using data collected from 245 respondents across 127 service organizations in Kuwait. Validated instruments were used, and analysis involved Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis, followed by Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to test the complete digital knowledge lifecycle, beginning from archival storage to innovation and organizational performance. Results reveal that DKM practices do not directly impact performance; instead, their effects are fully mediated by innovation. Four distinct mediation pathways were confirmed, underscoring the importance of integrating digital storage, sharing, and utilization into a unified, innovation-driven process. This research advances the conceptualization of DKM as a dynamic process and highlights innovation as the pivotal mechanism for translating digital knowledge into performance outcomes
Aid foundations for the benefit of employees and workers
Under the Turkish Civil Code, foundations are recognized as legal entities possessing independent legal personality and organized as property- based communities. Although foundations are principally classified as either “old” or “new,” the legislator has allowed for the establishment of various subcategories within the scope of new foundations. Among these are charitable foundations established for the benefit of employees and workers, which are subject to specific legal provisions under the Turkish Civil Code, the Turkish Commercial Code, and the Social Insurance Law. These foundations are predicated on the notion of fulfilling the employer’s social obligations toward their employees. Upon examination of the relevant statutory provisions, it becomes evident that such foundations deviate from the general doctrinal and systematic framework applicable to traditional foundations. Notably, in contrast to typical property-based foundations— where concepts such as membership, contribution of dues, or participation in management are generally absent—charitable foundations in favor of employees and workers incorporate these features into their governance structures. In particular, employees who pay dues to the foundation are often granted an active role in the election and oversight of the foundation’s administrative body. Furthermore, unlike conventional foundations, the general assembly in these worker-oriented foundations is often empowered to discharge or release the foundation’s executives from liability, a mechanism that is frequently articulated within the foundation’s deed. In addition, the governing documents may authorize beneficiaries to contribute financially to the foundation or even initiate legal proceedings to enforce the foundation’s obligations, provided such rights are expressly granted in the foundation’s constitutive instruments. In light of these distinctive legal and structural features, it is imperative that the sui generis nature of charitable foundations established for the benefit of employees and workers be duly considered both in the formulation of new regulatory frameworks and in the adjudication of relevant judicial matters

Monitoring: Reasons and strategies
Monitoring students is an essential part of the task cycle, which starts with a short introduction to the task along with instructions. Then the teacher usually monitors students while completing the task before conducting feedback. Monitoring students while completing a task is crucial if it’s conducted appropriately. In training courses such as the CELTA and CertTESOL, I have noticed that trainees may over-monitor students and engage with them during the task, turning the monitoring into counterproductive interference. They may also be unaware of what to do exactly while monitoring students during different stages of the lesson. The following reasons and strategies explain why and how effective and discreet monitoring can be conducted..
A model suggestion for measuring digital maturity level in universities
Yükseköğretim kurumlarında dijital araçların etkin entegrasyonu, bilgi yaratmanın değerini arttırmakta ve dijital olgunluk seviyesinin belirlenmesine yönelik sistematik modellerin geliştirilmesini önemli kılmaktadır. While strong performance was observed in research and education, areas for improvement were identified in operational processes and human resources management. This study provides valuable insights for higher education institutions to more effectively manage their digital transformation processes
Professional or tradesman? Professional pendulum of the pharmacy
Professions play a crucial role in shaping and transforming working life in Türkiye. In this context, pharmacy emerges as a multifaceted and multidimensional profession that includes many different roles and dynamics. This study aims to explore the reflections of the transformation in the working relations of the pharmacy profession on the professional role and reputation. The research was conducted using grounded theory design, one of the qualitative research methods; and in-depth interviews were conducted with eight owner and managing pharmacists, one assistant pharmacist, two intern pharmacy students, one pharmacy employee, and one hospital pharmacist. The interview data were analyzed under four main themes: pharmacies as a social space, trust-information-representation triangle, professional pendulum, and social media. As a result of the analysis, it was discovered that the pharmacy profession not only includes different professional roles within itself but also has a structure in which professionals assume the roles of other professions while practicing their profession. While this situation reveals the conceptualization of “profession within a profession”, it also introduces the concept of “professional pendulum” to the literature, suggesting that trust, knowledge and representation relations should be kept in balance in the pharmacy profession
