In the last few decades, sustainability has emerged as an essential concern in addressing pollution and the continuous depletion of the earth's resources. Pressured by global and local governance to invest in sustainable and green procedures, businesses worldwide have placed sustainable goals in their agendas. Due to its significant contribution to pollution, which comes second after the oil industry, the fashion industry has been demanded to adhere to sustainable measures to lessen its negative footprint on the planet. All the stages of textile production are sources of environmental hazards, such as high levels of water consumption and harmful chemical disposal. On the other hand, research has called for attention to consumption, especially with the prevalence of fast fashion trends, which have increased the consumption and disposal of cheap clothes, resulting in environmental and social risks. Being a significant player in the fashion industry, Türkiye was chosen as the context of this research. This research investigates sustainable fashion in Türkiye by bringing insights from fashion brands and consumers. It draws on the literature on sustainable fashion and the theory of planned behavior. The study utilizes a mixed-method approach with an exploratory sequential design. A qualitative phase was used by interviews with experts in the country's fashion industry. The data was analyzed using a thematic analysis. A survey questionnaire followed a quantitative phase, and structural equation modeling was conducted for the study. Findings display that the factors of the theory of planned behavior have an essential impact on the intention to purchase sustainable fashion. By combining qualitative and quantitative data, the research provides significant insights into the sustainable fashion situation in the country. The study highlights misunderstandings and discrepancies in how brands and consumers understand sustainable fashion. It also identifies greenwashing as a common practice among brands. Some significant challenges that may discourage purchase intentions were also identified, such as lack of information, misinformation, high cost, and lack of trust.Sürdürülebilirlik, son yirmi-otuz yıl içerisinde kirliliği ve dünya kaynaklarının sürekli tükenmesini ele alma konusunda önemli bir endişe kaynağı olarak ortaya çıkmıştır.

Revealing a word superiority effect using a unique variant of the Latin alphabet: The evidence from Turkish

    No full text
When visual stimuli are presented briefly, words are perceived better than nonwords. It is widely accepted that this word superiority effect reflects the efficiency with which words are perceived. However, most of what is known about the effect comes from languages (like English) using the basic Latin alphabet and little is known about whether languages using an alphabetic variant with very different properties can also produce word superiority. Here we report an experiment in which words and nonwords were presented briefly in Turkish, which uses a unique variant of the Latin alphabet containing 29 separate letters, 12 of which are close visual replications of other letters. Despite the potential for visual confusability and perceptual uncertainty, the findings revealed a clear advantage for words over nonwords, indicating that word superiority observed previously for the Latin alphabet can also be observed with the very different variant of this alphabet used for Turkish. Implications of these findings for processes involved in visual word perception are discussed

Several economic crises, particularly in emerging nations, have exerted detrimental consequences on various facets of those nations’ growth. Considering these crises, policymakers and researchers have been more interested in this discourse, pushing for government intervention to control economic conditions. This is because even though the long-term economic development is endogenous, government policy impacts it positively or negatively. By stabilizing and influencing economic circumstances, the government may make sure that economic growth is sustainable and beneficial to society. Policy makers in many countries often utilize fiscal policy as a means to address market failures and mitigate their adverse effects. In a broader sense, fiscal policy is implemented to manage expenditure levels, regulate taxation, and make effective resource allocations. In essence, fiscal policy operates as a way through which a state governs the economy (Anayochukwu, 2012). As Falade and Folorunso (2015) underlined, budgetary policy can be utilized to stimulate the economy via influencing expenditure and taxes. Diminishing unemployment rates and fostering economic growth are the key objectives of fiscal policy

The emergence of crypto currency as an alternative source of currency has been dubbed as one of the greatest phenomenon of the 21st century. Over the years, crypto currencies have grossly interrupted the traditional financial system and they continue to act as a catalyst for its revolution. However, cryptocurrencies have not been free from misery and controversies. The aim of this study is to explore and investigate empirically the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on price and volume dynamics in crypto markets. The study makes use of two data samples, but these samples are analyzed separately and independently. The first sample consists of Top Five Cryptocurrencies in terms of market capitalization (Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Binance coin and Litecoin) as at 7 November 2020. The second one is made up of the Bottom Five Cryptocurrencies among the top 40 cryptocurrencies (FTX Token, Huobi Token, Filecoin, Dash and Decreed) as at 7 November 2020 again. The data among the Top Five Cryptocurrencies ranges from 2014 to 2021 and the data among the Bottom Five Cryptocurrencies ranges from 2018 to 2021.. The empirical results reveal that all crypto-currencies are integrated at order 1 i.e. I (1). The empirical analysis confirms presence of strong evidence for intra-and-inter long run relationship between price and volume dynamics within the crypto market irrespective of whether it is pre-pandemic or pandemic period. More so, there is convincing evidence from the results that much of the variance among the prices and volumes of the top five cryptocurrencies is attributed to the Bitcoin price-volume dynamics. This implies that it is critical for crypto market traders, investors and portfolio managers, before making any investment decision must consider the dynamics of price and trading volumes of BITCOIN as they hugely impact the prices and volumes of other altcoins

Dreams are one of the realms of psychology and psychotherapy. In addition, people’s dream experiences and interpretations are highly influenced by individual, social and cultural contexts. A qualitative study was designed to examine in detail how meaning is given to the dream experience in Turkish society. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 16 adult (9 female, 7 male) participants who were not mental health professionals. The data was analyzed using Reflexive Thematic Analysis and within a critical-realistic framework. From the common narratives of the participants, three themes were developed under the overarching theme of Dreaming as “A Life Experience,” namely (i) Changing Meaning: “[Dreaming] Is Unique to Each Person,” (ii) “The Day After the Dream” and (iii) Dreaming as a Therapeutic or Spiritual “Guide.” It was observed that the participants interpreted dreams as an experience that reflects physical or environmental conditions, the daily life and inner world of the person, the social and cultural structure, and processes of the society in which they live, and may also include a spiritual experience. In addition, the participants evaluated waking and dream life as experiences that are often directly related to and affect each other. In clinical and psychotherapy practice, dream assessment can be used as a helpful resource for examining people’s life experiences. However, it is recommended that these examinations and dream studies be conducted by taking into account their social/cultural contexts. In this context, the meanings that people give to dreams in different cultures and societies should be examined

This study investigates the impact of intangible resources such as adhocracy culture (ADC), information sharing with suppliers (IS), and supplier trust (ST) on supply chain viability (SCV) under high inflation environment. To do this, a conceptual model is developed to analyze the associations between these suggested variables. Using on a cross-sectional survey, data are collected from 216 supply chain (SC) and production practitioners based in Türkiye who are medium- to senior-level managers. To analyze our theoretical model, we processed our data and model using lavaan package in R. The results show a significant relationship between ADC and SCV. Additionally, both of IS and ST capabilities are found to have a strong mediating effect on the ADC and SCV relationship. The results of this study will provide insight for managers and researchers to prevent the negative effects of SC disruptions due to the high inflation or other type of stress tests. Extant research has investigated the SCV with different crises like COVID-19 pandemic however, the study is the first research that examines SCV under high inflation stress test. Moreover, ADC, IS and ST have not widely appeared in SCV literature. In this regard, this research also contributes to the ongoing efforts of investigating the antecedents of SCV

[ArticleInPress]This cross-sectional exploratory study surveys the general perceived adverse effects of COVID-19 on people’s wellbeing (including obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms (OCDS)) and the level of resilience shown against it, with specific reference to the role of religiosity and optimism. Data were collected in an online survey from 247 non-randomly selected participants in Turkey, aged 12–64. The questionnaire included a demographic form, a battery of COVID-19 scales, the Brief Obsessive-Compulsive Scale, a short-form Optimism Scale, and the Ok-Religious Attitude Scale. The results indicate that COVID-19 significantly and negatively influenced several aspects of people’s lives, including finance, mood, life perspective, physical health, spirituality, and state of mental health. Furthermore, resilience, family solidarity, religiosity, and optimism played a positive role in overcoming the negative effects. Nonetheless, women, less religious people, pessimists, and anxiety-prone individuals, including people with OCDS symptoms, reported that they felt less resilient against the perceived adverse effects of COVID-19
