Aircraft cargo loading planning: A systematic literature review
Air cargo has become one of the most important means of transportation. This importance is currently being reinforced by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has dried passenger traffic to historic low levels. As a result, airline companies have turned on air cargo as the lifeblood to keep their operations running. However, the process of loading cargo on cargo aircraft is a complex task carried out by experts called loadmasters. It requires hands-on experience because the correct loading affects the balance and fuel performance of the aircraft. The problem in the literature is referred to as the air cargo load planning (ACLP) problem. In this research, we employed a systematic literature review framework that clusters the existing relevant literature into their respective solution approaches and presents a more transparent idea about the state of the current literature, the gaps, and the shortfalls of various solution methodologies
Investigating the nexus of environmental turbulence, technological learning, and innovation dynamics: Empirical evidence from Turkish manufacturing firms
Technological learning is paramount for the success of firms in a highly competitive environment. This study, rooted in the absorptive capacity perspective, explores how technological turbulence influences product and process innovation within manufacturing firms through the lens of technological learning. Furthermore, we examine the moderating impact of market turbulence on the relationship between technological turbulence and technological learning in the context of manufacturing. Empirical analysis was conducted via a survey-based approach, and Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis was employed to test our research hypotheses using data collected from 142 manufacturing firms in Turkey. The findings reveal that technological turbulence significantly impacts technological learning, and technological learning mediates the link between technological turbulence and firm innovation in the manufacturing sector. Notably, we also establish that market turbulence moderates the connection between technological turbulence and firm innovation, specifically in the domains of product and process innovation
Information-gain based project prioritization and q-learning molecular fuzzy ranking for energy positive building investments
Energy-positive buildings have gained significant attention as a sustainable solution to the growing global energy crisis. However, the efficient allocation of limited resources remains major challenges for optimizing these investments. There is a need for a new priority analysis for these factors. This article aims to determine the appropriate investment strategies regarding energy positive building projects via a novel model. The relevant project factors are detected using the information gain-based attribute selection in the first stage. The balanced evaluation matrices are created by q-learning in the following section. The weights of performance indicators are computed by molecular fuzzy cognitive maps. Moreover, project alternatives for energy positive building investments are examined via molecular fuzzy multi-objective particle swarm optimization. The main contribution of this study to the literature is that prior investment strategies for the improvements of the energy positive building projects can be identified with the help of a novel decision-making model. The main superiority of the proposed methodology is calculation of the importance weights of the experts. The results illustrate that the information gain method reduces the initial eight project alternatives to five, with the highest information gain values (0.750 for energy production potential and 1.000 for the use of high-performance materials) highlighting the most influential factors. The q-learning algorithm balances expert evaluations, achieving convergence with a tolerance of 0.02, ensuring stability in decision matrices. The MF cognitive maps assign weights to criteria, with the use of high-performance materials (weight: 0.256) and technological infrastructure (weight: 0.253) emerging as the most critical. The MF-MOPSO ranking results show consistent performance across five molecular geometry shapes, with the vertical urban farming tower (average score: 0.1562) and net-positive educational campus (average score: 0.1560) as the top alternatives. The model's superiority is further validated through comparative analysis with the ARAS method, confirming robustness against weight variations (1–2 % changes). These results provide actionable insights for policymakers and investors to allocate resources effectively, emphasizing high-performance materials and technological advancements as key drivers for energy-positive building investments
Hakkari'de kadın anlatıları: Militarist ve devlet feminizmi arasında
The study examines the politics of women's bodies as Kurdish women practice them in Hakkari. Kurdish women's security worries, the Turkish women's movement's advancement within the framework of state feminism, and their precarious position between the Turkish feminist movement and the Kurdish women's movement are all covered. From a militarist feminist standpoint, it also examines why Kurdish women are not fully represented in the Kurdish women's movement. Additionally, the study exposes the masculine dominance in women's body politics and the nationalist mentalities within the Kurdish and Turkish women's movements while also critiquing the representational aspect of jineolojî, the central claim of the Kurdish women's movement. Moreover, women's conceptions of freedom are sacrificed and reified in the face of masculine policies, as demonstrated by the interviewees' testimonies and a thorough literature review. The way that gender-discriminated women are forced into subservient and "other" roles to serve masculine political objectives is examined in the framework of militarist and state feminism. It also highlights how ideas like Kurdish fighters and village guards are used to influence the bodily performances of Kurdish women. The study's central thesis contends that feminist discussions must be recreated and that women's status in Hakkari within the so-called feminist or women's movements was created under political aims.
Global logistics efficiency after COVID-19: A cross-country analysis using the logistics performance index
[Early Access]This study analyses the World Bank's Logistics Performance Index (LPI) to quantify changes in logistics performance before and after COVID-19, using a slack-based measurement (SBM) model of data envelopment analysis (DEA) and the Malmquist Index (MI), which indicates efficiency changes over time. The LPI analysis shows performance gains, but challenges in timeliness and international shipments. The SBM-DEA model indicates efficiency improvements mainly through technological advancements. After the pandemic, the decline in efficiency in customs operations and international shipments signals a need for streamlined procedures and cost reductions. The analysis also shows that the post-pandemic recovery varied by region. This study contributes to the theory by showing how dynamic capabilities and institutional resilience influence logistics adaptability and widen global performance gaps. Informed by the resource-based view and dynamic capabilities theory, it advises policymakers to enhance logistics infrastructure, modernise customs, and reduce costs to tackle post-pandemic challenges in underperforming regions
Hedonic vs. eudaimonic ways of living on the path to well-being and psychological distress: Turkish validation of HEMA-R
The Hedonic and Eudaimonic Motives for Activities-Revised (HEMA-R) measures eudaimonic, hedonic, hedonic pleasure, and hedonic comfort motivations. We tested the psychometric properties of the HEMA-R among Turkish-speaking university students (N = 255) and adults (N = 460). Confirmatory factor analyses among university students demonstrated both two-factor and three-factor solutions of the HEMA-R, while confirmatory factor analyses among adults identified a three-factor solution. Internal consistencies of the HEMA-R were largely good. In both samples, eudaimonic motivation always had at least slightly more positive associations with well-being indicators compared to hedonic motivation, hedonic pleasure motivation, and hedonic comfort motivation, while having negative weak relationships in half of the analyses with ill-being indicators. Hedonic motivation mostly had weak positive associations with the majority of well-being outcomes, while having weak positive associations with several indices of ill-being. Hedonic pleasure motivation had weak positive associations with the majority of well-being indicators, and hedonic comfort motivation did not have any association with some of the well-being indicators. They predominantly had no associations with ill-being indicators. Eudaimonic and hedonic indicators of motivation both related to need satisfaction and meaning in life indicators. Implications are discussed for future research
Preparing teachers for the algorithmic educational landscape: A critical mapping of generative AI integration in language teacher education
The increasing integration of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, such as ChatGPT, in education has prompted growing interest in their pedagogical potential and the emergent competencies required for their effective use in language instruction. While generative AI is beginning to influence language teaching and learning practices, emerging research suggests a growing need to address AI-related literacies and ethical considerations within language teacher education programs. Despite the growing number of studies examining generative AI’s use in language learning contexts, there remains a notable gap in systematically reviewing how generative AI is being addressed in teacher preparation and professional development. To address this gap, this study presents a bibliometric-based systematic literature review of research on generative AI in language teacher education, employing text-mining algorithms, data-mining heuristics, and social network analysis. The findings identify five major thematic clusters in the literature: (1) Professional Development and AI Literacy in Teacher Education, (2) Chatbots and Conversational AI in Language Learning, (3) Generative AI for Instructional Design, Assessment, and Lesson Planning, (4) Generative AI as a Tool for Enhancing EFL Writing Skills, and (5) Exploring Pre-Service Teachers’ Perceptions and Readiness. This review contributes to the growing discourse on AI in education by mapping the current research landscape and identifying critical directions for advancing generative AI integration in language teacher education
Masculinity aloft and on the ground: The myth of warrior nation in Turkey's Cold War cinema
This article explores the construction of militarized masculinity and nationalist myths in Turkish Cold War cinema of the 1960sthrough a comparative analysis of two films: On Korkusuz Adam (Ten Fearless Men, 1964) and Göklerdeki Sevgili (The Lover inthe Skies, 1966). Produced and circulated in a period of political realignments as a response to the Cold War and the Cyprusconflict, these films played a role in the popularization of the myth of warrior nation. Hence, relying on theories on theformulation of political myths and gendered nationalism, this study shows how the representation of the Cyprus conflictworked to justify national superiority and heroism of Turks. Close reading and contextual film analysis reveal that these films donot merely reproduce the official nationalist discourse, but they actively shape militarist discourses by inviting viewers to alignwith the Turkish hero's point of view. Furthermore, the study inserts the films into a broader Cold War cultural corpus throughestablishing parallels with American and South Korean examples. In doing so, it deepens the analysis of the relationship be-tween politics and culture by stating what role globally played by Turkish cinema in the production and popularization of themyth of warrior nation
