Airline passengers’ perception of sustainability practices: The Turkish civil aviation market
In light of the future of our planet, all stakeholders today recognise that sustainability must be regarded as the paramount concern. Civil aviation has a significant contribution to air pollution and local noise pollution. The rapid growth of Turkish civil aviation necessitates an in-depth assessment of sustainability, together with the development of requisite tools and policies. This study aims to assess the significance of airlines’ environmental activities from the viewpoint of passengers and to examine their perceptions and awareness of sustainability programs by airlines. The study also seeks to uncover the potential moderating effect of business model preferences on passengers’ views and awareness of airlines’ sustainability efforts. The investigation reveals that passengers’ perceptions of airlines’ sustainability operations significantly positively influence their willingness to pay to support these programs. It has been disclosed that there is no substantial variation in the passenger profile, specifically with the airline business model preferences, between passengers’ impressions of sustainable practices and their readiness to pay for such services
Türkiye’de idari yargının mevcut durumuna ilişkin gözlemler
There is a significant relationship between the workload of administrative judicial bodies and the effective exercise of the freedom to seek legal remedies in administrative justice, including the right to access courts. This relationship reflects the practicality of claims and objectives regarding compliance with the rule of law, as evidenced by the number of cases administrative courts are required to resolve each year and the time taken for their resolution. At this juncture, it is crucial to promptly and accurately identify the factors that contribute to the increasing workload of administrative courts. Subsequently, the relevant authorities must implement swift and sustainable measures to address these issues. This study evaluates whether judicial oversight of administrative actions in Türkiye complies with the standards of the rule of law. It examines the workload of administrative courts and provides concrete recommendations based on data provided by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Justice and the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ).İdari yargı mercilerinin iş yüküyle idari yargıda hak arama özgürlüğünün ve bu kapsamda mahkemeye erişim hakkının etkili şekilde kullanımı arasında ciddi bir ilişki vardır.
Evaluation of the request for cancellation of the mediation agreement document within the framework of the basic principles of the mediation process
Basic principles such as voluntariness, intentionality confidentiality, impartiality of the mediator control of the process by the parties, equality are valid in the mediation activity, and it is entirely at the discretion of the parties to reach an agreement or not at the end of the process. If an agreement is reached at the end of the mediation activity, it is possible to issue a mediation agreement document between the parties. Although the mediation institution is founded on the principle that the parties resolve the dispute through settlement in line with their free will, the agreement reached at the end of the process is an out-of-court settlement agreement in terms of its legal nature. In this respect, the agreement document is subject to the general validity requirements for contracts. Although an agreement has been reached during the mediation process, it is possible that this document may be rendered null and void (Art. 28/2 of the TCO) within the period stipulated in the Turkish Code of Obligations within the framework of the sanction of voidability (Art. 30-39 of the TCO), especially based on the claim of excessive benefit (Art. 28/1 of the TCO). Again, in the event that the agreement document is signed without the party's or the voluntary representative's capacity to act in the mediation activity, this document may be invalidated and cancelled due to incapacity. In order to eliminate all negative factors that may undermine the purpose and effectiveness of mediation, it requires a process management in which the mediator is more involved within the framework of basic principles. Even if it is possible to annul the mediation agreement document due to disorders of will, in our opinion, it is obligatory for the judicial authorities to maintain a cautious approach these requests, considering the basic principles of the mediation institution
A brief religiously-adapted cognitive behavioral therapy intervention for Acute Stress Disorder (ASD) after Kahramanmaraş earthquake in Türkiye: A case series
Background: After earthquakes, disaster survivors frequently experience acute psychological distress and require time- and resource-efficient, accessible, and culturally sensitive interventions. Integrating religious values into psychological interventions may enhance acceptability and effectiveness in such contexts.
Methods: This case series aimed to develop a brief religiously-adapted cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) intervention program sensitive to religious values for individuals experiencing acute stress symptoms. Seven earthquake survivors with acute stress symptoms participated. The DSM-5 Acute Stress Symptoms Severity Scale was used for initial screening, and the Stress Symptoms Subscale of the Posttraumatic Diagnostic Scale (PDS) was used to assess symptom severity at pre-intervention, post-intervention, and at 1-week, 1-month, and 1-year follow-up. Participants received a 5-session, 2.5-week intervention designed in consultation with religious authorities and trauma experts. The study was conducted in March 2023.
Results: The intervention appeared to contribute to a notable reduction in posttraumatic stress symptoms. On average, participants exhibited a 46% decrease in scores on the PDS Stress Symptoms Subscale following the intervention. These improvements were sustained across all follow-up periods.
Conclusions: The brief religiously-adapted cognitive behavioral therapy intervention for ASD appears to be a feasible and practical short-term approach for reducing acute stress symptoms and potentially preventing the development of PTSD in post-earthquake populations seeking religious-sensitive psychological care
The impact of COSO-based integrated internal control system on corporate governance principles in the sustainability era: The case of a leading educational foundation
This study mainly aimed to examine the impact of the COSO’s internal control system components (Control Environment, Risk Assessment, Control Activities, Information-Communication, Monitoring) on corporate governance principles (justice, transparency, accountability and responsibility) through the example of a leading educational foundation in Türkiye. In the study, it was investigated whether there was a significant relationship between the perceptions of employees regarding the effects of the internal control system components on corporate governance. It was also investigated whether these perceptions differed according to demographic characteristics such as gender, age, education, length of service, position. Methodologically, a descriptive online survey method including a questionnaire was applied to collect data. The survey was sent to 234 participants in different departments and positions working in the foundation, and 197 employees responded. The data were analyzed with SPSS22. The survey, which was suitable for a 5-point Likert scale, included statements regarding demographic characteristics and COSO’s main internal control components and corporate governance principles. The study concluded that all COSO components have a significant and positive relationship with corporate governance principles. In addition, a stronger relationship was revealed between transparency and accountability principles and internal control components compared to others. Furthermore, it was indicated that these perceptions differed according to demographic characteristics. While significant differences were found in perceptions according to demographic characteristics such as gender, age and position, no differences were found according to education and working years criteria. The study is considered to contribute to the literature because it is the first study to examine the impact of the main COSO internal control components on corporate governance principles, together with the example of a leading educational foundation. The study is limited by the selected sample educational foundation, the number of respondents, survey questions-answers, the applied statistical analysis method and tests. Therefore, in order to reach more general results, it is suggested to expand the studies with more diverse and larger numbers of educational foundations, employees, survey questions and statistical methods

[Book Review]: "The Great Disappearance: 31 Ways to Be Rapture Ready"
David Jeremiah’s “The Great Disappearance: 31 Ways to Be Rapture Ready” is a devotional exploration of Christian eschatology that presents the rapture as a pivotal moment in Christian belief, emphasizing spiritual readiness, moral vigilance, and hope. Rooted in the premillennial dispensational framework, the book draws on biblical passages such as 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 and engages the historical and theological traditions of figures like John Nelson Darby, Augustine, and Irenaeus. While the work effectively communicates complex theological ideas in an accessible manner for lay audiences, it lacks the depth of scholarly engagement typical of academic theology. Ethnographically, it offers insight into contemporary evangelical religiosity and how eschatological beliefs shape daily faith and practice, while hermeneutically, it demonstrates how biblical texts are interpreted and applied devotionally. Though its scholarly contribution is limited, the book remains a valuable resource for understanding modern evangelical spirituality and serves as an accessible pastoral guide to living in anticipation of Christ’s return.
Unleashing the power of innovation: How innovation capacity and product and process objectives drive competitive performance
Research on innovation typically emphasizes resources and capabilities while overlooking the core role of innovation capacity. We investigate how firms’ innovation capacity translates into innovation and competitive performance, and whether product and process objectives shape these links. Using survey data from 238 indigenous Turkish firms and multinational subsidiaries and estimating a structural-equation model, we find that (1) innovation capacity strongly and positively predicts innovation performance; (2) innovation performance, in turn, enhances competitive performance; and (3) innovation performance partially mediates the effect of innovation capacity on competitive performance. To identify boundary conditions, we test whether strategic objectives condition these relationships. Product objectives, i.e., expanding product range, entering new markets, and increasing market share, significantly strengthen the link between innovation capacity and innovation performance, whereas process objectives aimed at efficiency gains do not materially alter that relationship. Robustness checks, including confirmatory factor analysis, slope and Johnson–Neyman probes of moderation, and bias-corrected bootstrapping of indirect effects, support these conclusions. This study foregrounds innovation capacity by modeling both mediation and moderation and clarifies when and how firms convert innovation investments into market-relevant outcomes in an emerging-economy context. Managerially, the results advise building and deliberately steering innovation capacity, aligning it with explicit product-oriented goals, and tracking innovation outputs as the conduit to superior competitive performance. Conceptually, the findings integrate dynamic capabilities and goal-setting perspectives, highlight objective-driven boundary conditions, and invite further longitudinal work on capacity–performance time lags and cross-national generalizability
COVID-19 and the Okun’s law: The case of Ghana
The Covid 19 pandemic was a strong shock that plummeted into the entire interconnected economic activities of the world. As a result of the lockdown associated with the pandemic, the economies of the world were affected through restrictions like lockdown leading to the reduction of economic indicators like Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and increase in Unemployment. This paper set out to look at the relationship between the GDP and unemployment in Ghana in the periods prior and during the covid pandemic. The Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model was used on data from 1991 to 2021. The result shows the nonexistence of the Okun’s law in Ghana in each of these periods. We conclude by advising policy makers to implement policies that directly generate more jobs like improvement in the agriculture sector through training and financial support to enable increased employment to match the increase in economic growth
