Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)-Based Multimodal Diagnosis of a Rare Intramural Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Case Report and Literature Review
: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is the most prevalent histological subtype of esophageal cancer worldwide, typically manifesting as an endoluminal mass with overt mucosal involvement. Exceptionally, however, ESCC may present with an intramural growth pattern beneath an apparently intact mucosal surface, a presentation that is exceedingly rare and prone to misdiagnosis. In such cases, repeated endoscopic biopsies are frequently non-diagnostic, thereby delaying appropriate management. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) has emerged as the cornerstone for detecting and characterizing intramural lesions, enabling assessment of tumor infiltration depth and nodal status, while complementary imaging with CT and PET contributes to accurate staging. To date, only a handful of intramural ESCC cases have been described, and their clinical, endoscopic, and radiological features remain poorly delineated. This review appraises the existing literature on primary intramural ESCC with intact mucosa, with the dual aims of summarizing the diagnostic challenges and highlighting the value of a multimodal approach to avoid unnecessary surgical interventions. Furthermore, we report an additional case from our experience, which underscores the critical role of EUS and integrated imaging in achieving timely and accurate diagnosis of this unusual entity

Prospettive e programmi per lo sviluppo turistico in Puglia negli anni della Ricostruzione: Taranto e la scommessa sul mare
Dopo la fine della Seconda guerra mondiale il turismo divenne sempre più, in vari Paesi europei, parte integrante delle politiche di ricostruzione e di ripresa economica, sull’onda dell’importanza che aveva acquisito durante la cosiddetta “prima mondializzazione”, e cioè tra la fine dell’Ottocento e gli inizi del Novecento. Terminato il conflitto, difatti, esso entrava pienamente nel discorso pubblico, costituendo un elemento nodale nelle società e nelle economie nazionali, anche perché individuato da più parti come un fattore in grado di avviare, dopo la catastrofe della guerra, processi di crescita territoriale e di rinascita non solo economica, ma anche morale e spirituale. All’interno di questo scenario, nel quale l’Italia s’impegnava attivamente per la ridefinizione della propria collocazione sul mercato turistico occidentale e per la trasformazione di territori e modelli di consumo che imponevano con urgenza la riconsiderazione del ruolo di istituzioni, pratiche amministrative e politiche economiche coinvolte nel fenomeno turistico, s’inserirono anche la Puglia e la stessa città di Taranto, che intravide soprattutto nel mare una preziosa occasione di ripresa e valorizzazione del proprio territorio. Si trattò di una possibilità che, per quanto poi destinata a scontrarsi con l’opzione industrialista, e quindi con l’impianto del IV Centro siderurgico nella città, costituì comunque un interessante terreno d’azione, mostrando come anche nel caso del capoluogo ionico, al pari della città di Brindisi, la scelta industrialista non fosse scontata e confermando l’importanza che da più parti si attribuì a conclusione del conflitto al turismo come principale chance di sviluppo. Partendo da tutto ciò, questo contributo ricostruisce le principali dinamiche che si innescarono a Taranto nel Secondo dopoguerra nell’ambito della sua valorizzazione turistica, esaminata nel contesto più ampio della progettualità turistica perseguita in Italia, e in Puglia nello specifico, do-po il Secondo conflitto mondiale e sulla base delle sollecitazioni storiografiche più recenti che spingono ad approfondire lo studio delle dinamiche dello sviluppo turistico tra la fine della guerra e gli anni ’50 del ’900
Measurement of photonuclear jet production in ultra-peripheral Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt(sNN) = 5.02 TeV with the ATLAS detector
In ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions at the LHC, each nucleus acts a sources of high-energy real photons that can scatter off the opposing nucleus in ultraperipheral photonuclear (gamma + A) collisions. Hard scattering processes initiated by the photons in such collisions provide a novel method for probing nuclear parton distributions in a kinematic region not easily accessible to other measurements. ATLAS has measured production of dijet and multijet final states in ultraperipheral Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt(sNN) = 5.02 TeV using a dataset recorded in 2018 with an integrated luminosity of 1.72 nb-1. Photonuclear final states are selected by requiring a rapidity gap in the photon direction; this selects events where one of the outgoing nuclei remains intact. Jets are reconstructed using the anti-kt algorithm with radius parameter, R=0.4. Triple-differential cross sections, unfolded for detector response, are measured and presented using two sets of kinematic variables. The first set consists of the total transverse momentum (HT), rapidity, and mass of the jet system. The second set uses HT and particle-level nuclear and photon parton momentum fractions, xA and zgamma, respectively. The results are compared with leading-order perturbative QCD calculations of photonuclear jet production cross sections, where all leading order predictions using existing fits fall below the data in the shadowing region. More detailed theoretical comparisons will allow these results to strongly constrain nuclear parton distributions, and these data provide results from the LHC directly comparable to early physics results at the planned Electron-Ion Collider
The value of structured occupational safety data and cluster analysis: a case study from the Italian National Surveillance System
The collection and analysis of accident data are crucial steps towards the application of effective preventive
measures in the occupational safety context. The analysis of work-related accidents/injuries is a focal starting
point for improving the safety level in each sector. Data collection represents a critical activity in this field since
it is not characterized by a standardized approach. Quantitative models allowing the extraction of root causes of
an injury can be effectively applied without a vast computational effort only if structured safety data are
available. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the benefits related to the adoption of a structured and
standardized model for the collection and analysis of safety data. Thus, the application of quantitative methods
(based on statistical models) to structured safety data about injuries is proposed in the present study. A case study
on fatal injuries that occurred in the construction sector in Italy from 2002 to 2022 is discussed, based on data
collected through a structured database called Infor.MO and managed by the Italian National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work (INAIL), Regions and Autonomous Provinces and Local Health & Safety
Departments (LHSDs). A statistical analysis based on a multi-step process (including optimal scaling, principal
component analysis, and cluster analysis) has been applied to point out the real accident scenarios and root
causes characterizing the sector analyzed. Thanks to the structured set of data provided by Infor.MO, applying
different statistical techniques has been supported, elaborating data and extracting meaningful information
about the most significant fatal injury scenarios. The results obtained allowed us to point out four main clusters
of fatal injury scenarios, highlighting common causes reliably. This application has pointed out operational and
strategic benefits related to the availability of structured safety data to both highlight root causes of injuries and,
in a more strategic way, to improve the effectiveness of prevention activitie
RidGME Estimation and Inference in Ill-Conditioned Models
The selection of statistical methods that can operate even on ill-conditioned problems, providing accurate estimation and supporting general inference tasks, is a central need in several applications in different domains. In this setting, two major approaches are the methods from the bridge estimation family, such as ridge regression, and the entropy-based methods, such as generalized maximum entropy estimation. Regarding these two methods, on the one hand, the appropriate choice of the shrinkage parameter in ridge regression is not always an easy task, and, on the other hand, the choice of supports for the parameters of the model is a usual difficulty with the generalized maximum entropy estimator. The RidGME estimator proposed in this work, using generalized maximum entropy with supports defined with information from the ridge trace, mitigates the weaknesses of both methodologies, revealing itself as an alternative to ridge regression on ill-conditioned models. The results from an empirical application reveal that the RidGME estimator is competitive with the best optimal choice of ridge estimators and outperforms the ordinary least squares estimator in a cross-validation root mean squared error sense. Its implementation is illustrated, and computational codes are made available to practitioners
New limit on the μ+ → e+ γ decay with the MEG II experiment
This letter reports the result of the search for the decay μ+ → e+ γ undertaken at the Paul Scherrer Institut in Switzerland with the MEG II experiment using the data collected in the 2021–2022 physics runs. The sensitivity of the branching ratio measurement in this search is 2.2 × 10^−13, a factor of 2.4 better than that of the full MEG dataset and obtained in a data taking period of about one fourth that of MEG, thanks to the superior performances of the new detector. The observed data are consistent with the expected background, yielding an upper limit on the branching ratio of B(μ+ → e+ γ) < 1.5 × 10^−13 (90% C.L.). Additional improvements are expected with the data collected during the years 2023–2024. The data-taking will continue in the coming years
Unlocking growth: a bibliometric analysis of stakeholder engagement in SMEs
Purpose – This study aims to explore the intersection of stakeholder engagement and small and medium-
sized enterprises (SMEs). While stakeholder engagement has been widely studied in large corporations, its
role in SMEs and its impact on resilience and business innovation remain underexplored.
Design/methodology/approach – A bibliometric-systematic literature review was conducted, analysing 97
peer-reviewed articles from Scopus. Keyword co-occurrence analysis identified key thematic clusters,
including environmental sustainability, innovation management and collaboration strategies, as critical factors
for effective stakeholder engagement in SMEs.
Findings – The study highlights future research directions, such as stakeholder engagement mechanisms,
cross-sector comparisons and technology impact on engagement practices. The findings suggest targeted
strategies to optimise stakeholder engagement in SMEs, enhancing their sustainability and competitiveness.
Originality/value – This study fills a significant gap by linking stakeholder engagement to SMEs, offering a
broad picture of the current research and a future agenda that aligns engagement strategies with sustainable
business practices
