Remote Rehabilitation and Virtual Reality Interventions Using Motion Sensors for Chronic Low Back Pain: A Systematic Review of Biomechanical, Pain, Quality of Life, and Adherence Outcomes
Background: Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is a leading cause of disability, impacting quality of life (QoL), function, and work productivity. Traditional rehabilitation faces challenges in accessibility and adherence. Remote rehabilitation and virtual reality (VR) interventions using motion sensors offer real-time movement tracking, biofeedback, and personalized exercises. This systematic review evaluates their effectiveness in pain reduction, functional improvement, adherence, and QoL. Methods: A systematic search was performed across PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and PEDro (2015–2025), including randomized controlled trials, observational, and feasibility studies on adults with CLBP undergoing sensor-based digital rehabilitation. The primary outcomes included pain, functional mobility, and movement biomechanics; secondary outcomes included adherence, QoL, and cost-effectiveness. Eight studies involving 7166 participants were included. Overall, sensor-based remote rehabilitation and VR interventions demonstrated positive effects on pain, function, and adherence. Pain reductions ranged from modest short-term decreases to over 60% in long-term programs (e.g., −68.5% in VAS). Functional improvements included lumbar ROM gains up to +9.9° and better movement control. Adherence was consistently high, with some programs reporting completion rates between 73% and 90%, particularly those incorporating gamification or real-time feedback. Selected studies also showed QoL improvements (e.g., +9.10 points on SF-36) and reductions in work impairment by over 60%. A few trials reported significant decreases in inflammatory markers (e.g., CRP −1.16 mg/L, TNF-α −8.9 pg/mL). Conclusions: Motion sensor-based remote rehabilitation and VR interventions show promising results in pain management, mobility, and adherence for individuals with CLBP. Gamification and biofeedback features enhance engagement, addressing a key challenge of conventional rehabilitation. However, more long-term RCTs and economic evaluations are needed to confirm their effectiveness and cost-efficiency
Economic Sustainability of Scrapping Electric and Internal Combustion Vehicles: A Comparative Multiple Italian Case Study
The transition to sustainable mobility is one of the most pressing and complex challenges for the automotive industry, with impacts that extend beyond the mere reduction of emissions. Electric vehicles, while at the center of this evolution, raise questions about the consumption of natural resources, such as lithium, copper, and cobalt, and their long-term sustainability. In addition, the introduction of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous systems, brings new challenges related to the management of components and materials needed for their production, creating a significant impact on supply chains. The growing demand for electric and autonomous vehicles is pushing the industry to rethink production models, favoring the adoption of circular economy principles to minimize waste and optimize the use of resources. To better understand the implications of this transition, this study adopts a multiple case study methodology, which allows in-depth exploration of different contexts and scenarios, and analysis of real cases of dismantling and recycling of internal combustion engines (ICEs) and electric vehicles (EVs). The research includes a financial simulation and a comparison of revenues from the dismantling of ICE and EV vehicles, highlighting differences in the value of recycled materials and the effectiveness of circular economy practices applied to the two types of vehicles. This approach provides a detailed overview of the economic benefits and challenges related to the management of the end of life of vehicles, helping to outline optimal strategies for a sustainable and cost-effective future in the automotive sector
Landscape 4: una sintesi di elementi diaronici Pianificazione e mondo antico: tra i dogmi del passato e le interpretazioni recenti
Il volume raccoglie gli atti della quarta edizione del convegno ‘Landscape: una sintesi elementi diacronici. Pianificazione e mondo antico: tra i dogmi del passato e le interpretazioni recenti’, tenutosi a Lecce dal 25 al 26 maggio 2023, grazie al supporto dell’Università del Salento e del Laboratorio di Topografia Antica e Fotogrammetria. Il volume riprende le quattro sessioni del convegno, offrendo una panoramica generale sullo stato attuale della ricerca e dei diversi metodi applicati, attraverso un confronto tra le indagini di giovani ricercatori con quelle di figure più esperte. L’intento principale è quello di proporre una ricostruzione del paesaggio antico il più fedele possibile, superando i limiti imposti dalle lenti della modernità ed evitando di incorrere nell’errore di attualizzare la tematica. Questa tendenza, infatti, ha generato in precedenza dei parallelismi tra il concetto moderno di ‘pianificazione’ e quello antico che hanno di fatto semplificato la fenomenologia di questi processi, producendo delle ricostruzioni lacunose, altrimenti forzate, del paesaggio antico e dei suoi elementi costituenti: le strade, la campagna, le città e le persone. Il volume dimostra come questa tendenza sia ormai stata superata negli ultimi anni, soprattutto grazie all’introduzione di nuovi metodi di indagine, che da una parte hanno permesso di rimettere in discussione alcune questioni relative al concetto di ‘pianificazione antica’ e dall’altra hanno proposto nuove direzioni investigative, talvolta anche attraverso il superamento delle interpretazioni precedenti. Il supporto di strumenti e metodi quali i droni, il GIS, la geofisica, la geomatica, hanno di fatto permesso la conduzione di indagini su larga scala a costi più contenuti, agevolato la gestione di grandi quantità di legacy data e garantito una gestione più attenta delle risorse con una programmazione di scavi stratigrafici mirati. Questo circolo virtuoso ha migliorato la nostra comprensione della complessità che caratterizzava il paesaggio antico, costituito non solo da città e poleis ma anche da insediamenti ‘minori’ (vici, pagi, komai), non solo da vie consolari, ma anche da direttrici secondarie e da una parcellizzazione agraria non tanto serrata quanto le ricostruzioni precedenti delle centuriazioni avevano fatto ipotizzare
Gifted students, approach to task and peer relationships during math tasks
The present case study of a pair of primary school children explores their approach to tasks during the execution of challenging math tasks, particularly logic problems and the so-called impossible problems in an extracurricular context. The observation methodology was active and intentional and conducted by tutors using prompts aimed at generating change in the way the task was handled. Video observations and field notes were used to track, interpret, and collect information on verbal and nonverbal behaviours. The work highlights the impact of the schooling process on task approach, leading to the adoption of rigid patterns in the performance of mathematical tasks in gifted children. We also highlight the strategies and styles they adopt and the importance of peer interaction within activities on common interests. Finally, we want to emphasize the importance of the role of mediation and promotion of divergent thinking played by the adult mentor/tutor even in peer tutoring activities with gifted children
The sleeping bacterium: shedding light on the resuscitation mechanism
The revival mechanism in dormant bacteria is a puzzling and open issue. We propose a model of information diffusion on a regular grid where agents represent bacteria and their mutual interactions implement quorum sensing. Agents may have different metabolic characteristics corresponding to multiple phenotypes. The intra/inter phenotype cooperation is analyzed under different metabolic and productivity conditions. We study the interactions between rapidly reproducing active bacteria and non-reproducing quiescent bacteria. We highlight the conditions under which the quiescent bacteria may revive. The occurrence of revival is generally related to a change in environmental conditions. Our results support this picture showing that revival can be mediated by the presence of different catalyst bacteria that produce the necessary resources
AI-Based Autonomous Sailboat Navigation: A Review
This review explores the recent advancements in AI-driven autonomous sailboat navigation, underscoring its pivotal role in ocean monitoring and real-time maritime data collection. Drawing on an extensive range of primary and secondary sources, the study critically evaluates current challenges, innovative control algorithms, and path planning strategies, with a particular emphasis on AI techniques. A major contribution of this study is the comparative analysis of these AI methods to assess their efficacy in achieving robust autonomy amid dynamic and uncertain maritime environments. The review also addresses notable gaps in the literature, highlighting the limited adoption of AI-specific methodologies in sailboat control systems. It explores hybrid and adaptive approaches that integrates advanced sensing and obstacle avoidance technologies to improve real-time decision-making and navigation accuracy. Furthermore, the paper traces the evolution of path planning from traditional graph-based methods to state-of-the-art learning algorithms, identifying future research directions focused on enhancing robustness, adaptability, and the practical deployment of autonomous sailboats beyond simulations. Ultimately, this review serves a foundational resource for researchers and practitioners aiming to advance sustainable, efficient, and reliable autonomous sailboat technologies for marine exploration and environmental Management

Dans le cadre des recherches linguistiques sur les proverbes, Jean-Claude Anscombre
représente une référence incontournable. Son apport le plus original à la parémiologie
consiste en la mise en évidence des relations entre les proverbes et les structures métriques
(Anscombre 1999, 2000b, 2012b, 2021). Il a posé dans différentes études le fondement
d’une approche rythmique des proverbes, qui vient s’ajouter aux approches syntaxiques,
sémantiques et énonciatives.
À travers une analyse de ses principales publications en la matière, cette contribution vise
à mettre en évidence leur caractère critique et les perspectives de recherche ouvertes
