In situ vertical observations of the layered structure of air pollution in a continental high-latitude urban boundary layer during winter
Vertical in situ measurements of aerosols and trace gases were conducted in Fairbanks, Alaska, during winter 2022 as part of the Alaskan Layered Pollution and Chemical Analysis campaign (ALPACA). Using a tethered balloon, the study explores the dispersion of pollutants in the continental high-latitude stable boundary layer (SBL). Analysis of 24 flights revealed a stratified SBL structure with different pollution layers in the lowest tens of meters of the atmosphere, offering unprecedented detail. Surface emissions generally accumulated in a surface mixing layer (ML) extending to an average of 51 m, with a well-mixed sublayer (MsL) reaching 22 m. The height and concentrations within the ML were strongly influenced by a local wind driven by nearby topography under anticyclonic conditions. During strong radiative cooling, a drainage flow increased turbulence near the surface, altering the temperature profile and deepening the ML. Above the ML, pollution concentrations decreased but showed clear signs of freshly released anthropogenic emissions. Higher in the atmosphere, above elevated inversions, pollution levels were similar to previously reported Arctic haze concentrations, even though Fairbanks' outflow concentrations below elevated inversions were up to 6 times higher, likely due to power plant emissions. In situ measurements indicated that gas and particle tracer ratios in elevated power plant plumes differed significantly from those near the surface. Overall, pollution layers were strongly correlated with the temperature stratification and emission heights, emphasizing the need for improved representation of temperature inversions and emission sources in air quality models to enhance pollution forecasts

Chemical Recycling of Bio-Based Epoxy Matrices Based on Precursors Derived fromWaste Flour: Recycled Polymers Characterization
This study aims to investigate the chemical recycling of two different fully recyclable bio-based epoxy matrices based on epoxidized precursors derived from waste flour. The key for their recyclability relies on the use of a cleavable hardener. In fact, the latter contains a ketal group in its chemical structure, which is cleavable in mild acetic conditions, so allowing for the breakage of the cured network. The recyclability was successfully assessed for both the two investigated formulations, with a recycling process yield ranging from 80 up to 85%. The recycled polymers presented a Tg up to 69.0 +/- 0.4 degrees C, determined by mean of DMA and DSC analysis. Next, the TGA revealed that the thermal decomposition of the specimens primarily occurred around 320 degrees C and attributed to the breaking of C-O and C-N bonds in cross-linked networks. In the end, the chemical characterizations were carried out by mean of Py-GC/MS, MALDI-TOF-MS and FT-IR ATR. In fact, these analyses allowed for investigating how the recycled polymer's structure changed, starting from the initial epoxy systems. These insights on their chemical structure could further allow for identifying re-use strategies in accordance with a circular economy approach
Data Network Game: Enabling Collaboration via Data Mesh
Organizations aim to transform raw data into valuable insights using advanced analytical methods. Since data can be replicated and shared, multiple actors can simultaneously utilize the same information. This study presents the Data Network, a theoretical framework representing potential collaborations among organizations sharing data in large-scale big data projects, using Data Mesh as a supporting architecture. The Data Network Game (DNG) extends this model by applying game theory to analyze inter-organizational collaborations, incorporating market-imposed constraints that limit compatibility. Various scenarios, defined by distinct benefit and cost functions, are explored to understand their impact on coalition formation and market dynamics. A simplified theoretical example shows how coalitions can achieve greater value through collaboration than by acting independently. This model serves as a practical tool for assessing the trade-offs of cooperation and offers insights into manag ing emerging data-driven markets

Il Position Paper Governance e Risk Culture di AIFIRM affronta in modo organico il tema
“risk culture & culture risk”, delineando una visione olistica che integra prospettive regolamentari, organizzative e operative. Il documento esordisce chiarendo la differenza fra risk culture – l’insieme di valori, norme e comportamenti che orientano l’assunzione consapevole dei rischi – e culture risk, ossia il rischio generato da un divario fra i principi dichiarati e le pratiche effettive dell’organizzazione. Senza una solida cultura del rischio, il culture risk diventa un fattore potenzialmente letale per la sostenibilità dell’intermediario.
Sul piano normativo-regolamentare viene ricostruita l’evoluzione europea: dalle Linee
guida BCBS/FSB fino alla ECB Draft Guide on Governance & Risk Culture (luglio 2024).
La supervisione si attende oggi che la cultura del rischio sia misurabile, verificabile e
proporzionata a dimensione, complessità e modello di business. Particolare enfasi è
posta sui quattro “pillar” individuati dalla ECB – tone from the top, comunicazione &
challenge, accountability e incentivi – cui l’intervento del Regolatore affianca la
declinazione di indicatori di “red flag” utili al monitoraggio. Ampio spazio è dedicato alla governance. Il Board, supportato dai Comitati e dalle Funzioni di Controllo, deve guidare la diffusione della cultura del rischio, garantendo indipendenza di giudizio, adeguata composizione collettiva e presidio di competenze ESG/ICT. La funzione Risk Management assume un ruolo trasversale: dalla definizione del Risk Appetite Statement al presidio dei framework di KPI/KRI. Compliance e Internal Audit completano le “tre linee di difesa”, assicurando rispettivamente conformità ex-ante e assurance indipendente ex-post. Sul versante operativo il paper dettaglia processi di identificazione, misurazione, monitoraggio e reporting, evidenziando la necessità di:
• sistemi dati integrati e affidabili (data-governance);
• formazione estesa e modulare mirata a elevare la risk awareness;
• meccanismi di escalation chiari, supportati da canali di whistleblowing.
Viene inoltre proposta una matrice di proporzionalità che calibra struttura di governance, intensità dei controlli e copertura culturale rispetto a quattro profili di banca (LSI, domestica complessa, gruppo internazionale, fintech-driven). In sintesi, il documento individua nella cultura del rischio non un mero obbligo regolamentare bensì un vantaggio competitivo: solo integrando risk culture e
performance management un intermediario può coniugare crescita, innovazione e resilienza di lungo periodo, preservando fiducia di clienti, investitori e vigilanza
