    ShillProof: A Cross-Layer Auction System with Verifiable Bidding and Decentralized Sequencer Selection

    Shill bidding threatens the integrity of online auctions by allowing malicious participants to manipulate prices through deceptive behavior. Existing on-chain mitigation strategies rely on post-hoc penalties, but they suffer from high gas costs and limited scalability, especially under frequent bidding activity. To address this, we present ShillProof, a cross-layer auction framework that shifts fraud filtering into the consensus logic of an Optimistic Rollup to improve both performance and fairness. ShillProof achieves the following: (i) fraud filtering embedded in the Layer 2 consensus to block malicious bids before confirmation, (ii) verifiable settlement using Merkle roots and a bounded challenge period, and (iii) decentralized sequencer rotation via a commit-reveal and Chainlink VRF mechanism. Evaluation shows over 70% reduction in execution time per bid and a 3× throughput improvement over prior on-chain designs. Security tests demonstrate that censorship and bid omission can be publicly contested, ensuring cross-layer transparency and integrity

    It is with the entry into the labour market and the political sphere that the “gender revolution” has found its driving force. However, despite the achievements reached, the change is slow and non-linear. The reasons behind gender inequalities at work and in political representation are manifold, interconnected, and multi-level. The purpose of this contribution is to convey this complexity based on an interpretive framework that emphasizes contextual factors, as well as the influence these latter have on individual determinants.     Targeting Cancer Translational Plasticity: IRES-Driven Metabolism and Survival Within the Tumor Microenvironment

    The tumor microenvironment creates strong stress conditions, including hypoxia and nutrient depletion, which cause the blocking of cap-dependent translation. Under stressful conditions, cancer cells exploit the cap-independent translation mechanism mediated by internal ribosome entry site (IRES), which ensures continued protein synthesis. IRES elements located in the 5′ untranslated regions of specific mRNAs allow selective translation of key anti-apoptotic and adaptive proteins. These proteins promote cellular processes that sustain cell survival, among them metabolic reprogramming, redox balance, and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, thus facilitating tumor progression and therapy resistance. IRES activity is dynamically regulated by IRES trans-acting factors, such as YB-1, PTB, and hnRNPA1, which respond to cellular stress by enhancing translation of crucial mRNAs. Emerging therapeutic strategies include pharmacological IRES inhibitors, RNA-based approaches targeting ITAF interactions, and IRES-containing vectors for controlled therapeutic gene expression. A deeper understanding of translational reprogramming, IRES structural diversity, and ITAF function is essential to develop targeted interventions to overcome therapeutic resistance and eliminate persistent tumor cell populations

    Modeling and Analysis of Time-Dependent Creep and Relaxation Behavior of Polymeric Materials Using Fractional Derivative Three-Component Standard Viscoelastic Models and Nanoindentation Experimental Data

    In the modeling of viscoelastic materials, two-component elements such as the Maxwell or Kelvin models, which consist of a spring and a dashpot arranged in series or parallel configurations, fail to accurately capture the complex behavior of polymer materials. To address this limitation, this study employs fractional derivative equations within the frameworks of three-component Zener and Boltzmann models to simulate the viscoelastic response of polymeric substances. Two distinct numerical methods are utilized to identify and estimate the parameters of these fractional derivative models. In the first method, model parameters are derived by fitting experimental data to hysteresis loops and their corresponding equations. The second method leverages time-series data, applying the least squares technique to determine the models' parameters and coefficients. Additionally, a data-fitting approach is employed to align the proposed mathematical models with experimental results from nanoindentation tests, ensuring their validation and accuracy. Key outcomes include the extraction of storage and loss moduli: the storage modulus consistently increased with rising dimensionless frequency across all fractional derivative orders. In contrast, the loss modulus initially increased to a dimensionless frequency of one before exhibiting a decreasing trend. Hysteresis loops, representing the energy dissipated per unit volume of material, revealed a reduction in damping with lower fractional derivative orders. Moreover, both methods demonstrated a small relative error when subjected to noise, indicating their robustness and high accuracy in estimating viscoelastic parameters from laboratory data within a narrow range of excitation frequencies

    THE ENGLISH OF SOCIAL MEDIA. Investigating the linguistic features of Instagram posts

    Abstract - In the contemporary digital environment, adolescents and young adults are increasingly exposed to English through various forms of digital media, with social media playing a particularly prominent role. While this exposure often occurs incidentally during leisure activities, it contributes to the unconscious acquisition of linguistic structures, vocabulary, and communicative norms. This study investigates the nature of the English language encountered on social media by analysing three corpora of Instagram posts focused on cinema, music, and travel, topics identified as particularly engaging by Italian university language students (Manca 2024). The corpora were compiled from posts published between February 2024 and February 2025 on six high-activity Instagram pages selected for each theme. Adopting a quantitative approach grounded in Biber’s (1995; Biber and Conrad 2009) multidimensional analysis, the study explores the distribution of linguistic features characteristic of spoken versus written English. The corpora are also compared against the British National Corpus (BNC) to identify statistically significant deviations in part-ofspeech (POS) frequencies. Analysis was conducted using SketchEngine (Kilgarriff et al. 2004) and WMatrix7 (Rayson 2008), employing keyword lists, wordlists, and concordances. The findings provide insights into the hybrid linguistic nature of English in digital spaces and may provide the basis for future research on second language acquisition through social media
