Search for Higgs boson decays into a Z boson and a light hadronically decaying resonance in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    No full text
A search for decays of the Higgs boson into a Z boson and a light resonance, with a mass of 0.5-3.5 GeV, is performed using the full 140 fb-1 dataset of 13 TeV proton-proton collisions recorded by the ATLAS detector during LHC Run 2. Leptonic decays of the Z boson and hadronic decays of the light resonance are considered. The resonance can be interpreted as a J/Psi or eta_c meson, an axion-like particle, or a light pseudoscalar predicted in two-Higgs-doublet models. Due to its low mass, this resonance is produced with a high Lorentz boost in the laboratory frame and therefore reconstructed as a single small-radius jet of hadrons. A neural network is used to correct the Monte Carlo simulation of the total expected background using data from sideband regions. Two additional neural networks are used to distinguish signal from background, enhancing the purity of the signal region. A binned profile-likelihood fit is performed on the final-state invariant mass distribution. No significant excess of events relative to the expected background is observed, and upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the Higgs boson's branching fraction to a Z boson and a light resonance. The exclusion limit is ∼10% for the lower masses, and increases for higher masses. Upper limits on the effective coupling C^eff_ZH/Lambda of an axion-like particle to a Higgs boson and Z boson are also set at 95% confidence level, and range from 0.9 to 2 TeV-1

BLE-Driven Power-Efficient Integrated Sensing and Communication Framework for Livestock Monitoring

    No full text
The existing BLE-based cattle health and activity monitoring solutions rely primarily on parametric power optimization. However, a cattle health and activity monitoring system may require non-optimized parameters. Further, existing solutions transmit raw data, which is usually generated frequently, consequently increasing total transmission and causing high power consumption. Besides, BLE-based solutions are prone to data loss as the number of devices in the network increases, necessitating multiple transmissions to overcome data loss. However, the lack of an analytical framework to determine the optimal number of retransmissions results in redundant transmissions. This highlights the need for analytical expressions to precisely calculate the required number of retransmissions to overcome data loss. Owing to this issue and the emergence of BLE-related solutions, we have first examined the root cause of higher power consumption. Secondly, to reduce the number of transmissions causing major power consumption, we have proposed a threshold mode that reduces the total number of transmissions and saves a significant amount of power by only transmitting parametric data over raw data, which is usually sensed and transmitted very frequently. Thirdly, we have derived analytical close-form expression for the average number of transmissions required for successful data reception, which was the critical bottleneck in existing works. As a result, we have achieved significant improvement in battery life over the existing works; in particular, we achieved a maximum battery life of 10 years in mode A (raw data transmission) and 21 years in mode B (thresholding mode)

Measurement of jet track functions in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    No full text
Measurements of jet substructure are key to probing the energy frontier at colliders, and many of them use track-based observables which take advantage of the angular precision of tracking detectors. Theoretical calculations of track-based observables require ‘track functions’, which characterize the transverse momentum fraction rq carried by charged hadrons from a fragmenting quark or gluon. This letter presents a direct measurement of rq distributions in dijet events from the 140 fb-1 of proton–proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector. The data are corrected for detector effects using machine-learning methods. The scale evolution of the moments of the rq distribution is sensitive to non-linear renormalization group evolution equations of QCD, and is compared with analytic predictions. When incorporated into future theoretical calculations, these results will enable a precision program of theory-data comparison for track-based jet substructure observables

Search for a new scalar decaying into new spin-1 bosons in four-lepton final states with the ATLAS detector

    No full text
A search is conducted for a new scalar boson S, with a mass distinct from that of the Higgs boson, decaying promptly into four leptons (l=e,μ) via an intermediate state containing two on-shell, promptly decaying new spin-1 bosons Zd: S→ZdZd →4l, where the Zd boson has a mass between 15 and 300 GeV, and the S boson has a mass between 150 and 1500 GeV. The search uses proton–proton collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb-1 at a centre-of-mass energy of sqrt(s)=13 TeV. No significant excess above the Standard Model background expectation is observed. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the production cross-section times the branching ratio, σ(pp→S)×B(S→ZdZd)×B^2(Zd→ll), as a function of the masses of the S and Zd bosons

    No full text
: Background/Objectives: The effectiveness of 1 L PEG-ASC preparation in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients is still unclear. The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy and safety of 1 L PEG-ASC in a series of IBD patients. Methods: Data from a study conducted on a series of 284 patients collected in three centers between 2020 and 2025 were analyzed. The primary outcome was cleansing success whereas success in the right colon, polyp detection, adverse events, and patient reported outcomes were secondary endpoints. Results: The mean age was 43.28 ± 12.21 years and 170 (59.8%) patients were male. Out of 141 ulcerative colitis (UC) patients, 45 (32%) presented with a Mayo score of 3. The Mean Simple Endoscopic Score Crohn's Disease (SES-CD) score in CD patients was 7.2 ± 7.04. Overall and right colon cleansing success were reported in 267 patients (94.2%), of which 134 CD (93.9%) and 133 UC (94.6%) patients (p = 0.81). The overall BBPS score was 7.47 ± 1.44, specifically 7.52 ± 1.23 in CD and 7.40 ± 1.62 in UC patients (p = 0.76). Overall, 19 patients (6.7%) were diagnosed with polyps with a mean number of polyps per colonoscopy of 0.08 ± 0.03. The preparation was completely taken by 264 (92.9%) patients, and 247 patients (86.9%) declared their willingness to repeat the bowel preparation. Severe nausea was observed in 1 (0.3%) patient and no other severe adverse events were recorded. Conclusions: The 1 L PEG-ASC preparation is well-tolerated and safe in IBD patients

L'antica pietà paleocristiana nelle ‘Istruzioni architettoniche’ di Carlo Borromeo

    No full text

Search for emerging jets in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 13.6 TeV with the ATLAS experiment

    No full text
A search for emerging jets is presented using 51.8 fb-1 of proton–proton collision data at sqrt(s) = 13.6 TeV, collected by the ATLAS experiment during 2022 and 2023. The search explores a hypothetical dark sector featuring ‘dark quarks’ that are charged under a confining gauge group and couple to the standard model (SM) via a new mediator particle. These dark quarks undergo showering and hadronisation within the dark sector, forming long-lived dark mesons that decay back into SM particles. This results in jets that contain multiple displaced vertices known as emerging jets. The analysis targets events with pairs of emerging jets, produced either through a vector mediator, Z′, in the s-channel, or a scalar mediator, Φ, in the t-channel. No significant excess over the SM background is observed. Assuming a dark pion proper decay length between 5 mm and 50 mm, Z′ mediator masses between 600 GeV and 2550 GeV are excluded for quark and dark quark coupling values of 0.01 and 0.1, respectively. For a quark dark-quark coupling of 0.1, Φ mediator masses between 600 GeV and 1375 GeV are excluded. These results represent the first direct search targeting emerging jet pair production via a Z′ mediator, as well as the first study of emerging jet production mediated by a scalar particle exchanged in the t-channel
